There's no doubt that crypto is becoming extremely popular as payment method for many online services such VPNs, e-commerce sites, and more. Basically, one can pay with crypto for many stuff online as the number of merchants and businesses accepting it are growing. There are many video streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu that are a great way to watch movies and TV series online at the comfort of your home. To my surprise, none of them are accepting crypto as payment method. I've been doing some digging on the web in order to find a video streaming service that would bring the convenience of crypto payments, but I'm out of luck.

Maybe in the future Netflix will decide to accept crypto payments? If it does, I'm thinking it'll accept Bitcoin straightforward, since it's the most popular cryptocurrency in the world today. I imagine paying for Netflix or other video streaming service without the need to convert crypto to Fiat ever again. Heck, even paying for online movie theaters with crypto will be a blast.

Do you think that there will be a "Netflix of Crypto" sometime in the future? Or will current streaming sites accept crypto due their ever-increasing demand from people in the mainstream world? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Smiley

Anyone of the two will be good for us holders of Cryptoccurrency, but of course I want our community to have it's own version of Netflix, it's good for the promotion of Cryptocurrency, it's going too be giant step in promoting Cryptoccurrency, because it needs a big company to set up a Netflix kind of project, so far I haven't seen one project do that I'll definitely going to support it.

To my surprise, none of them are accepting crypto as payment method. I've been doing some digging on the web in order to find a video streaming service that would bring the convenience of crypto payments, but I'm out of luck.
Thankfully, there's a workaround with the help of third-party websites that sell gift cards in exchange for crypto-currencies.

Maybe in the future Netflix will decide to accept crypto payments? If it does, I'm thinking it'll accept Bitcoin straightforward, since it's the most popular cryptocurrency in the world today.
I have a feeling, they'll be using [still a big "IF"] one of the popular merchant solutions/payment gateways instead.

I think there will be some alternatives to Netflix with crypto payments in the future but either none of them will last that long or they'll fail really bad.
- I'm expecting to see similar results to YouTube alternatives in the crypto-currency world.
- Having said the above things, I believe sooner or later will see the latter part (acceptance) in popular streaming platforms.

We don't necessarily need a "crypto" for literally everything. As for crypto payments, video streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu will accept these cryptocurrencies if they know there's demand for it. Obviously, there isn't much hence they don't find the need to accept them. Besides regulatory purposes, low demand is the reason why most services in the past stopped accepting bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

It would be great if there would be new streaming sites that would offer such option but we know that reputation would always be a question on here.

So we do prefer on seeing those old and known ones to accept it.For now, we cant do anything but to wait if they would imply it or not.

. Besides regulatory purposes, low demand is the reason why most services in the past stopped accepting bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

Low demand and price volatility. I clearly remembered on of gaming platforms (Steam) removed Bitcoin into its payment or top up option due to that main reason.
Services wont really just easily add up if they wont really see huge demand which is a casual thing but who knows if they would reconsider or would try soon but i
doubt that they would mainly look with traditional e-fiat thing.

Likely they will in the future. More noise with the mainstream media talking about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and they might get into it. That could be even their one huge announcement that will make people excited with a branding of bitcoin's logo.

We don't know, prolly they're already looking into it and studying if there will be a huge demand for it. Like what SFR explained, as long as there are services that can offer to pay your subscription through crypto that's already good enough.

Low demand and price volatility. I clearly remembered on of gaming platforms (Steam) removed Bitcoin into its payment or top up option due to that main reason.

I completely doubt the volatility is the main reason. In the first place, most if not all(besides just a very few) use payment systems that automatically converts the BTC that they receive to fiat in the first place. This automatically and easily eliminates the volatility problem.

Why does Netflix need to accept Bitcoin payment directly as long as they can earn by selling gift cards? You can buy gift cards using bitcoin.

As for the reason for not accepting it is economical, how many people use cryptos to buy needs in exchange for speculation There are many alternatives way to pay with cryptos?

Perhaps there are some legal and other things that make accepting payments in BTC a nuisance more than profitable.

It's only a matter of time before we can have one I like our own than Netflix accepting Crypto because they can always disable payment when Bitcoin is dipping, if we have a dedicated one they can add other Crypto and this is a good options for investors, we need a big company to so this for us or those real business who knows how to set up one.

It will depend on the crypto user itself, as for the regulation I may think that will accept or make a regulation to accept it.

Just thinking, when many people use bitcoin or altcoin in their lives they will many chances for crypto currency to become a new payment method.

The merchant will force themselves to make an innovation in order to their customer to feel comfortable when using the service.

So, it gonna happen depend on crypto users aware that they can use it for another purpose not just an investment place and pull many new people to using it.

Business model are base on demand, just like what Netflix did, they study the market and they know that people are looking for streaming services to watch different genre of films and they take advantage of that market that's why in just short amount of time they have toppled HBO.

So it will be the case here, if they see that people prefer to them their subscription with crypto, then they will immediately jump and get some third party, win-win for them. But we will have to wait though, it might take years for crypto to be mainstream.

I like that Idea it's a great time to spend with your family if we have something like that, the project should accept various Cryptocurrency so even if there is a lag in one coin in its network we have other of coins to choose, Bitcoin, Ethererum Litecoin and Doge are some of my choices, I hope we'll have a Netflix version of Crypto.

I would guess at a minimum 20-30% of streaming subscribers are people who wouldn't continue paying if they had to actively initialise the payment each month. They never quite bother to cancel so they stay locked in.

Crypto would be the companies' least welcome payment method by a country mile. Users would become much more choosy and conscious of their outgoings and a vast percentage would vapourise instantly.

damn, good point. this could of course be done with scripts (and an online wallet) but until it's a streamlined part of wallet UI (dummy proof and easy) this is problematic for adoption among subscription services.

Crypto would be the companies' least welcome payment method by a country mile. Users would become much more choosy and conscious of their outgoings and a vast percentage would vapourise instantly.

maybe. users love spending capital gains though. bitpay has shown data indicating that people spend more after increases in price: https://qz.com/931810/cheapair-and-bitpay-data-show-rising-bitcoin-btc-payment-volumes/

the optimal route is obviously to support crypto alongside traditional methods.

I don't think there will ever be a successful "netflix of crypto" but Netflix accepting crypto may be a thing to consider. Think about the demographics though. Amazon never needs to instal Bitcoin payment systems because they feel (and they're probably right) that Bitcoiners don't shop on Amazon. Netflix is a different proposition though.

It will take a whole lot of years to see Netflix accepting crypto as mode of payment. The demand for bitcoin is still on the low side, that's one of the main reason Netflix won't accept crypto. If that crypto is widely accepted worldwide, Netflix would have come up with the idea of using crypto as another method of payment for their services

There are two possibilities, first there will lots of different crypto ICO that works like Netflix or 2nd possibility Netflix and Amazon will soon accept Bitcoin or create a crypto for their business. Bittorrent all ready did this.

Smiley

Thankfully, there's a workaround with the help of third-party websites that sell gift cards in exchange for crypto-currencies.

Yes. I'm aware. Found out that Bitrefill provides gift cards for both Netflix and Hulu. And since it accepts Lightning Payments, it becomes very convenient to pay with crypto without the need to use Fiat ever for online video streaming services. If they'd accepted crypto directly, it would've been even better. But at least, there's a workaround. Smiley

I have a feeling, they'll be using [still a big "IF"] one of the popular merchant solutions/payment gateways instead.

Same. My guess is that Netflix will either use BitPay or Coinpayments as their preferred crypto payment gateway of choice. I'd wish they use Coinpayments instead, as not all wallets are compatible with Bitpay's invoices. For instance, users on the Ledger Nano S are unable to pay directly to a merchant accepting Bitcoin via Bitpay because of this. At least, gift cards provided by Bitrefill make the process seamless for Netflix and Hulu. I think it's the only service around providing gift cards for such online video streaming sites.

Maybe. If there's demand for a crypto-oriented video streaming site, an alternative to Netflix could become a reality soon. I wouldn't worry about this since it's already possible to buy a Netflix subscription using gift cards from Bitrefill. It seems to be the only service with such offering. If it lasts, it'll be a blast. Otherwise, I'd have to cash out for Fiat (which is somewhat inconvenient because of the exchange fees).

Nonetheless, I appreciate your help. Since my problem has been solved, I'll be locking this thread. Thanks to everyone for the input! Cheesy
