On the forum, I see a lot of links to various social networks. Our forum does not generate useful content, we are forced to discuss other people's posts in various social networks.

There are a lot of useful and interesting people on the forum and we can get a lot of interesting information, and make sure that social networks and news sites link to our forum .

I suggest the idea to create a "Forum User's Day".

What is it?

For example, June 1 is declared Theymos's day.
A topic is being created on the forum: "Theymos's day"
Theymos must always be on the forum for a certain time 3-8 hours and answer any questions from users.

The administration can approve a prize for the best question (cryptocurrency or badge in the profile, which will be active until the next "Forum User's Day", and will be transferred to the new winner).

In practice, this gives a huge positive result. Traffic on the forum is growing sharply and advertisers pay increased fees to advertise in this topic.

Our forum does not generate useful content, we are forced to discuss other people's posts in various social networks.
Sure it does--just because there's a discussion happening instead of a single person/entity who's creating "content" doesn't mean nothing useful is generated.  If that were the case, there's no way I'd have stuck around here for over five years and there would be no need for discussion forums to even exist, since they'd essentially be time-wasters.

A topic is being created on the forum: "Theymos's day"
Theymos must always be on the forum for a certain time 3-8 hours and answer any questions from users.
I don't see that or anything like that as being helpful or even potentially popular.  If anyone has something to say to Theymos or anyone else, they're free to start a thread--and Theymos himself is pretty responsive to threads directed at him, BTW.

I don't think bitcointalk even needs a software update, though I know I'm probably in the serious minority by thinking that--but I certainly don't think it needs an overhaul in terms of structure or theme.  What we've got going on is pretty neat IMO.

Thank.
I will try to explain what I meant because my English is not so good.
The forum has a lot of useful information, but many representatives of various projects have been inactive on the forum for a long time.
Check out this thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827109
And look when the representatives of the mixers were active.

In some cases, it’s faster to find the answer on Twitter or telegram, and I want to try to make the forum also quickly generate what I called "useful content".

My idea does not require software changes or forum budget expenses.

What does theymos have to do with mixer devs
You expect the guy to answer to "when pool?" or "when exchange?" for someone else's project?
Sorry but don't see the point
Maybe an AMaA (Ask Me almost Anything) would be cool but why only theymos?

Maybe I would like to hear what Vitalik has to say about a few things (many would have their own option) and even more would not give a flying f**k about his shitcoin.

That's an idea for a blog, not a forum IMO

What would be his motivation for doing so? Spending 8 hours straight on a forum is probably not something most of us would consider fun.

This has nothing to do with it Smiley

Only issues related to the project are discussed in official topics.

On "Forum User's Day" you can ask any questions.

We can invite Vitalik Buterin to the "Forum User's Day", but we need to gain experience in conducting such events.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=7314

I have already held such events, 3-4 hours pass very quickly for a good conversation.
I am interested in the opinion of Theymos, will he the first to participate in this event?

I don't think that would work. We all have jobs and family outside of the forum, very few people have the luxury to be active here 4 or 8 hours non-stop. Besides, this is a community forum. Many of the things you want to ask theymos can also be answered by the community. Other information has probably been asked and answered in the past, and can be found by initialing a search. And there is also the spam factor to consider that such an activity would cause.

Let alone a forum, I don't think I could stay on a computer for 8 hours straight. We all need to go outside and do some activities, or at least spend time doing something else inside so our backs don't hurt from sitting in one place for a long time.

Aside from staying 3-8 hrs. straight here, my other concern is that what would be the standard to be followed to say that you are qualified to make your own day? I am just worrying this might be another gateway for irresponsible members to generate tons of their own threads and create spam (knowing the fact that each one of us here can create a thread freely if we want to).

In practice, this gives a huge positive result. Traffic on the forum is growing sharply and advertisers pay increased fees to advertise in this topic.

No offense but don't think the forum is that much interested in this. The forum was not meant to be monetize instead was created as a platform where enthusiast can discuss and interact with each other. If the forum is lacking finance or traffic, there are numerous ways they can achieve that but that's not their number one priority.

Why create a specific day for each user to answer questions which might turn into a burden to that user when you can get that for free everyday by members of the forum who're interested in helping other members out by responding to their questions, inquires and contributing to their topic of discussion without been pressured to do it, just kill the suggestion as it won't be productive.

Depends on the topic/person being questioned, if theymos decide to host AMA on this forum, there'll many question about this forum (merit, spam, etc.)

The first thing I'd ask is about his identity Cheesy

And how do you suggest planning this for rest of the users ?

I am not sure if you want it only for specific users (mods, staff, theymos etc. ) or for everyone on the forum. Because making it for everybody would be chaotic and could be unrealistic. Also why would anyone want to come here and spend hours to reply on questions beings thrown in on them.

Besides, forum is doing great. There is great knowledge library around if you search at right place. Well known list of members whom you can always see replying to every important discussion.

It's good in all senses.

I don't think bitcointalk even needs a software update, though I know I'm probably in the serious minority by thinking that--but I certainly don't think it needs an overhaul in terms of structure or theme.  What we've got going on is pretty neat IMO.
There has to be at least one time where you think to yourself, "geez, couldn't this have been done in a better way?!"

Don't think that just because you got used to it that the quality is great. No, you just adjusted to the quality that it always had. Wink

This seems just like a reddit AMA aka Ask Me Anything. I don't think it would be a bad idea, though I think it should be voluntary. It would be interesting if a nominated user could set a day where they have a few hours to answer questions 'live' from any user, or maybe even better just let users post their questions in advance maybe over a week and that person could answer the ones they want at some point when they have time. Theymos isn't that active in posting especially of late and it's often difficult to get an answer from him on certain things either in public or private (though I haven't tried in a while) so maybe this sort of AMA would be a good idea for forum users to get answers to certain questions they have. I'm sure there are many things users would want to know like what's the eta on the new forum, or will new ranks ever be added etc and there were plenty of suggestions that both I and other users made in the Community generated suggestions thread and it would be interesting to know if he's thought any more about these or even changed his mind, but maybe theymos doesn't want to answer these questions as to not put a deadline on himself etc. Still, it would be nice to get updates or clarifications on some things.

Some things to consider:
  • Criteria to nominate, choose guests for AMAs
  • Who will be in charge of AMA to manage AMAs' operations
  • The forum is not a real time messeger so there will be unnecessary and repeated questions from AMA participants (because they can not follow up AMA process)
  • Posts in AMAs should not be counted because it will give spammers chances to more easily get acceptance and ignorance for their spam- and shit-posts

From what theymos admitted at the end of the Art Contest, I don't think he has intention to spend much time on the forum to answer questions from community during AMAs. Not only if he is the chair of the AMA when he has to spend a few minutes, one hour or two hours to do so but also if he has to think of management solutions for such AMAs.

Compromises or FUDs can be born from AMAs as well as invisible pressure on him or any global moderators, ie. who will be in charge of chairs of AMAs.
I was really thrilled to see so much good art, but remind me never to do this again... It took me probably 20+ hours to sort through everything.
theymos has dedicated his time for the forum over years but not in a fixed period daily or under any kind of invisible pressure.

Nobody has to chair it, or the op of the thread could. A thread is created and anyone can ask a question in there. People can read the thread to see if there's any dupes. Whoever is nominated can either choose to answer as many as they want or all if necessary and they can answer them when they're ready. As with AMAs not all questions get answered but just ones they feel penitent and they certainly wouldn't be an obligation to do so. I think this would be better than an reddit AMA actually as questions likely won't get lost amongst the melee and instead of answering them on the fly and in a rush the person in question can take some time to think about their answers or what questions they even want to answer at all.

It would be interesting if the big shots happen to drop by; Roger for instrance *cue the boos* or our beloved John McAfee.

But I feel that other than Satoshi-co-founded, Bitcointalk is still lacking other features Reddit has, which is pretty obvious. UX, diversity of topics, or lack of post engagement which is why AMAs on Reddit are mostly successful.

If I understood well, OP only used theymos as an example.

I do agree that a lot of the projects we've all witnessed growing here from the very beginning, quit the boards once they were fully launched and very often never came back. Just like OP, I regret the fact that once a project really takes off, you have to go look for news and information on other sources and social media, because there's hardly anything new added on the forum.

I'm not sure that "Vitalik Day" or "Roger Ver Day" would be the best solution to give the forum some kind of exclusive stuff and interviews, but at least it's an interesting suggestion (edit) to keep the community closely involved in the evolution of these projects - and vice versa.

Also, it would remind these once very small and unknown devs of where it all began, at least once a year.
