Recently I have read news about a scam that involves SpaceX, a well-known company, that declared to be giving away Bitcoin.

Quote
A Spacex bitcoin scam has frequently appeared on Youtube, claiming to give away BTC. Its promo video features the recent SpaceX launch with two NASA astronauts and an interview with SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The scammers claim that anyone sending bitcoin to them will be “airdropped” twice the amount sent.

I have dug a little down to this and found out that this kind of scam method has appeared years ago. Now it's back and there are people who claimed to be scammed.

Why is everyone keeps getting scammed by something so obvious and repeatedly happened? If a big company like SpaceX really wants to hold an event like that, what should they do to prove people that they're real?

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

That doesn't only happen on YouTube because there are also people trying to share that one on Telegram. This isn't new to the industry but if you're observant and vigilant you'll never fall for this lousy scam attempt. Unless Elon Musk make an announcement live on YouTube then I wouldn't bite such clickbait being shared by these random guys.

That sounds normal to all of us when talking about these kinds of scams. What I am wondering is that why are people are so easy to fell into that. I know using such a famous company can get a lot of people to get baited but believing in something out of Internet is just really crazy to me.

It's because there are still people who blindly trust SpaceX/Elon Musk and everything he says. And scammers are using him to capitalised on his projects popularity. So scammers will (1) hacked a Youtube account with a lot of subscribers (2) change the title of their channel (3) used Musk name to promote their scam.

So the best weapon is to educate ourselves, read the signs and red flags about this fake giveaways and whatever so that we don't fall for this kind of gimmicks.

Another SpaceX scam has reappeared, why is that?

Because scammers have existed since forever, and will exist till the end of humanity. There will always be people with a broken moral compass and there will always be gullible and misinformed people that are prone to these scams. The only solution to these problems is knowledge.

Because people, frankly speaking, are huge opportunists.

And when I say that, I refer to both scammers and scammed.

It is not hard to prove that those who are scamming others are definitely so. They are obviously riding on the popularity of anything such as Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, SpaceX, even COVID-19, and so on and so forth and on the credulity and ignorance of many. But more than that, they are playing on the attitude of so many people.

And that is the opportunistic attitude, the primary reason why a lot fall victim to investment scams such as Ponzi, and fake giveaways, fake airdrops, scam ICOs, shitcoins, and so forth.

All kinds of Bitcoin Giveaways are SCAMS

You will see a lot of them appearing on YouTube, you will recieve emails related to Airdrops and Giveaways, you will suddenly get added to an unknown Telegram Channels with lots of Giveaways.

All the above will lead to Scams. Stay away from them. No one is giving you anything for Free.

From the topic, i thought this was some flat-earth conspiracy theorist calling SpaceX a scam. These giveaway scams, especially on twitter are ubiquitous and old now. Yet, people fall for them in hordes. Famous people like Musk, Buterin, Lopp etc have consistent profile pics. The handles are generally very similar. Buterin even started adding [not giving away ether] and then scammers copied that too.

It is a terrible thing to witness thieves and charlatans damaging the whole market for these new people who get bitten by such scams. These people generally dive into it thinking "Ohh, this is a new opportunity and only I know about it". They don't realize they are new to the place and maybe their cousin doesn't know it yet but  everyone else already knows it.

Probably because it is a big company, and that's why they got scammed. Honestly, a lot of people out there would fall into a scam just by attaching the name of big companies like Google, Apple, etc., to their promos and everyone would literally fall for it. Just look at how a few people in social media share articles that indicate "Free giveaways" from a page that doesn't really seem legit, but they still try it since they have nothing to lose.
Because people, frankly speaking, are huge opportunists.

And when I say that, I refer to both scammers and scammed.
Wow this was kind of an enlightenment to me. I kind of realized that the scammed was also at fault here, not just by falling into a stupid scam attempt by the other party, but by also trying to take advantage of the opportunity. I'm not saying that it's not right to take the chance when it's there, but really, it's like both sides are at fault here, first is that the scammer took the opportunity to rely on a big name to make money, and the other is that the scammed tried to take the opportunity to rely on that scam to get rich ( which obviously backfired ).

Elon Musk now becoming the poster boy for scams and fake youtube giveaways,  Grin Why?

Because he is influential and has wealth to back it up. So everyone is following his every move and scammers knows this that's why he uses him. But we all know that in this world there's no such thing as free, isn't it? You are too gullible if you think that Musk will give everyone free ride.

Common guys it's 2020, who would have fall for that kind of giveaway scam? If that's true that it could have been on the news or huge platform. Besides, it is odd for spaceX or Elom Musk himself to giveaway bitcoin, Elon did even mentioned that he was not into bitcoin or something ( though we all know that he had been into it for years lol ) We cannot blame people for taking the opportunity that the giveaway gave them, they are just blinded by the $$$, now if they get scammed they need to face the losses and consequences.

Good one for noticing it.

I am not a follower of Elon Musk or even the SpaceX project but I do see this kind of scams in Telegram.
We in the forum mostly used this service specially those in the bounty section.
Gotta be wary with every message that will pop up in your profile or else you will be the next victim.

All kinds of Bitcoin Giveaways are SCAMS

Definitely not all kinds. There are legit faucets giving away a hundred or so Satoshis. Do they count? Cheesy

Incidentally, I've just received my FreeBitcoins.com stickers yesterday from BayAreaCoins. I haven't informed him yet. Shhh.

They're giving away some spare Sats until supply lasts. And it's definitely not a scam. I'm not connected to them, by the way. Grin

As they say, it takes two to tango.

More often than not, behind every successful scam operation is an opportunistic or probably greedy individual. Right, I'm not referring to the culprit alone but also the victim. And I'm not even saying that victim is a completely ignorant person. It's just that sometimes a man will swerve from reason in order to get some free and easy money, grab some opportunity, test whether something is indeed real or not saying, "there's no harm in trying," and so on.

And by clicking, by filling up, by downloading, by sending a little amount, and so forth, the scam has already succeeded.

Why is everyone keeps getting scammed by something so obvious and repeatedly happened? If a big company like SpaceX really wants to hold an event like that, what should they do to prove people that they're real?
I just recently watched a documentary regarding the NASA and SpaceX and I didn't think that they will be using SpaceX too in a scam attempt Cheesy.

People are getting scammed because of 2 things:
1. They are newbies - they don't have any information or knowledge regarding scams.
2. They are ignorant - being ignorant can lead to a loss of your money too.

Scammers will always be there as long as there are investors who are ignorant or newbies. They don't need to prove themselves that they're real if they are launching an event like this because at first place they aren't doing things like this. For me, it would be better if they will just focus on what they are doing right now which is the plan of putting the 2 astronauts into the ISS.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this. I just hope that some investors will see this thread.

Majority of the people that always fall victims of scam like this are those newbie that do not always do their findings before making a decision. Even if SpaceX is going to give anything, it will strictly be a donation particularly at this moment that the owe world is witnessing Covid19 pandemic. Alot of scams are being perpetuated on the internet using Elon musk as a bait. You hardly come across any post made by him without scammers spamming the post with that tesla giveaway scam and it is imperative to see now that they have move on to SpaceX scam.

Scammers chose SpaseX cause Musk definitely has some sympaty for crypto industry. Dogecoin story and some of his interviews are definitely helping to make it look plausible

It's because there are still people who blindly trust SpaceX/Elon Musk and everything he says.

I've never really figured why so many scammers settled on him. He's an erratic druggist. Then again maybe they think he'll be off his trolley enough to do a real one some day.

After all this time I can't rustle up any sympathy for anyone who falls for this type of thing any more. It's so obvious it's painful.

"I will give you twice tomorrow what you give me today"

Lol, Do I really need to say anything more? It reminds me of that "sir I will gladly pay you Friday for a burger on Wednesday" or however it goes. But that is just an exchange of debt, not a promise of 2x your money back.
If this is how easy it is to scam people I am not surprised they do it. I don't feel anything for people who are scammed this way. If you believe what someone says who's faults that. I mean yes they scammers but can you really blame them?  Cheesy

The main reason, is other people are just extremely gullible the lust for money blinds them to invest or send Bitcoin to unknown people.
Even though the scammers just takes a popular company and create a poorly made article or page.

I mean if it's to good to be true then it's not true.
