It actually was my main mining rig for years even after Win 10 was released. It was much more stable than Win7 and for ETH mining it was more stable that Ubuntu hence I used it on some of my rigs.
I stopped using it primarily because there are no more security updates. It was discoutuined sometime in Jan 2020. Hence with all the exploits out there, there is no point in using it anymore really. Hence had to upgrade those rigs to Win 10. Sure miss Windows XP and Windows 7.

There should still be a few ways to lock it down, but it may not be worth the risk.

Most people should have moved on due to the possibilities of security vulnerabilities.
You don't anyone with a way into your network when you deal with crypto.
Pool mining you have nothing to worry even if you are using windows 95 ehhe

I also used 5-6 years ago windows 7 for mining coins i made the about 3-4 btc that time but wasn't not much experienced to keep it and sold it before making this bumping to a highest pick of amount once. But now i am using windows 10 pro. Really that was a great experience that time still remember. I wish that time again come.😁😁😁

my windows 7 mining rigs from 2013 are still up and running.
basic security tips
-an anti virus-firewall with "application control"--> will ask permission to connect to the internet-normally you block anything that is not mining related.
-basic network security(router thing), ip address and mac address, know your IP's and MAC's and block the rest and also block them from connecting to your latest main PC where you may have some shitcoins.

For mining, I rarely used windows except on a few occasions. I always used Linux don't know why but I always felt that miner worked better there and add to that I think Linux OS was a bit lucky for me when it came to mining.

I have a farm (nvidia GTX1070) on windows 8.1. I'm just too lazy to install Windows 10 on them and the performance after installation will not increase. The same is true for miners who use the Windows 7 system.
