It has been 155 years since the emancipation proclamation yet we still see racism happening. In the past weeks, we have seen protests all across the globe demanding justice for George Floyd.

The Black population is at a disadvantage, and we need to be asking ourselves, how do we level the playing field. How do we tear down the systematic oppression that plagues America? Bitcoin can play a role.

The only way to get out of oppression is to educate your children not to elect presidents like Donald Trump. Bitcoin has no role to play here! Bitcoin doesn't see you as a black or white or Asian or as an Tibetan. It's indeed the most less racist payment system available today but it doesn't have the power to clean out hatred from people's mind. It's not a magic wand either!

Bitcoin can certainly decreases your dependability from institutional authorities but can't educate you to be peaceful. It's your upbringing and education that makes you a better person.

When I say educated, I do not mean graduate or long list of degrees beside your name. It's your maturity and humanity coupled together.

Hope this makes sense!

To be frank it looks like these things are blown out of proportion, the way in which some are taking these issues as if there are no other ethnical personal in police nor politics and it is controlled by one ethnic group. The Floyd situation was really unfortunate and the cops that is responsible will be brought to justice.

I would like to hear from you about the systematic oppression you have encountered to come up with that conclusion and how bitcoin could solve that Undecided.

Yes you're correct, educating the youth is first and foremost the primary objective here.  No one is born racist, it is taught/ it learned, and often imprinted on young minds.  Bitcoin can help level the playing field however.  As Andreas Antonopoulos often cites, bitcoin can help the under-banked, those not allowed to join the masses with traditional banking tools.  This helps give power back to those whom have been disenfranchised.

I don't believe that Bitcoin and racism have anything to do with each other. They are completely separate topics, you are comparing apples and oranges.

Well, Bitcoin may loosely help fight institutionalized racism by taking away financial power from governments. Racism in one's local community is a completely different issue, and cryptocurrency isn't remotely related.

For some reason, racism and bullying never seem to end. Both of these are a frightening specter for anyone. And this happens not only in kids but also in adults.
The incident in the US is one such example that is currently in the spotlight all over the world. That racism can be very sensitive and even result in death. Strong protests by many residents there prove that in fact there are still many people who are aware of the importance of respecting all people, without underestimating one ethnic or others.

In this case, I still don't understand how Bitcoin is related to dealing with racism. The article states that:

Quote
Entrepreneurship is everything, especially in the US. With the chips stacked against black business owners, how can anyone expect blacks to be able to break through that concrete ceiling? Bitcoin does provide an answer. The first part is obvious, and its Bitcoin’s answer to everything: decentralization.

Yeah, decentralization. This might be a way in which with decentralization there will no longer be racism by the authorities against those who have no power. However, can the context of decentralization be applied in all respects? However, if it is about a way to overcome, I personally will support this.

To get rid of racism, many factors play a role in my opinion. Most important is to avoid votes for racist or nationalist people / parties. Second to ensure equality by law. In the US, there are still many people preventing this. Well known was for example stop and frisk.
Bitcoin can't help there but it can help to show what's important in a society. Bitcoin has a very international community like here on Bitcointalk (well if we avoid some racists in P&S Tongue) and it doesn't matter where you are from to use it (except if you don't have infrastructure). It can bring people together instead of dividing them. People will start to know that a racist, divided society has less power than a non-racist, united society (like Bitcoin).

The role of Bitcoin isn't a big one here but it can be one part of many factors.

I guess the racism will not go away and that nature of a person will surely not banished in existence, I think it is common that we take on that views ourselves and it will surely start when we are young the views our parents will show us we think is always correct so it will surely start with the parents but sometimes even though parents is well mannered it will surely go down to the child own perspective that he or she sees outside with his friends and what he sees in the community,

In my opinion it will not going to be taken out but we can lessen it one at the time by guiding the little ones with good manners that will surely start in our homes and schools, and I also think that Bitcoin will just have small portion on overcoming it, Racism is like a stain that is surely hard to take out.

Racism is a wide issue that it does not only include the financial system. It's been there for decades, and until now racism is still there. I agree with @avikz above that it starts by teaching the kids how to look at everyone equally with the same respect regardless of nationality and color you have.

It may be hard connecting racism and bitcoin since it's not one of the main factors to stop racism. But I think it can also make a small contribution. As mentioned in the article OP gave, there is a book called "Bitcoin and Black America" that tackles about the racist banking system and how bitcoin can help black Americans overcome this with the help of bitcoin. I have only heard about it, but not ready had the chance to read the book, but here's an article I found about the author talking on the current issue, as well as the issue about George Floyd. I think it will help us to understand how the author sees the potential of bitcoin in the black economy.

Exactly, I don't see any connection whatsoever, not saying this is bad, but I think someone is really trying to take advantage of bitcoin and racism here.

This has been the issue since the George Floyd incident, And again, the subject because the most hotly debated  topic even in this community. But being a crypto enthusiast, we shouldn't get ourselves involved here. I mean it's already 2020, we are all educated person and I'm sure majority here have responded in this subject already.

Bitcoin is not the ultimate solution, and education is important, but Floyd would not have been arrested over counterfeit money allegations if he paid with Bitcoin because Bitcoin is impossible to fake. So it could potentially solve some problems, but not on a global scale. What you're talking about is ideological aspects, the mindset of people. But the economic grounds of racism are also strong, so avoiding banks and other traditional institutions while using Bitcoin instead could be empowering. Then again, if I'm not mistaken Bitcoin is heavily taxed in the US, so if black people using BTC don't pay taxes, they might be prosecuted on the grounds of tax evasion, so new ways of discrimination could also arise.

Bitcoin opens opportunities to both colored and white people, and it does not discriminate. HOWEVER, this doesn't mean that it will be crucial in eliminating racism that has been plaguing the world ever since Columbus sailed to the West and discovered the natives. Bitcoin wouldn't play a vital role in eliminating this practice, and only people educating other people that racism is bad can solve this plague.

Practicing what you preach also helps. Sometimes we forget that we do indirect racism on our own ways and we are also adding to the problem. Bitcoin is a tool for neutrality and privacy, but not a tool against racism and other injustices the world is facing right now.

Religious education and character education from an early age are very much needed in overcoming the problem of racism. Changes in perspective through nurture and education from an early age to instill equality between races and tribes. Change in perspective not only for those who often discriminate (feel superior) but also for others who have to instill confidence and equality in the name of humanity.

The state has a great responsibility to implement anti-discrimination policies and to guarantee institutions and law enforcement that respect equal rights and fair treatment followed by strict application of the law. The most effective way to stop racism is by achievement and not retaliating with terror if discrimination occurs. This can break the chain of hatred.

The essence of anti-racism is valued so that revolution and resistance using bitcoin will not be effective. Bitcoin is indeed a symbol of equality if it is only used for a group campaign it will actually lead to negative state sentiment towards bitcoin. Resistance with violence will not solve the issue of racism.

If they will use bitcoin as a tool for transaction and to avoid racism, would it be like they are distancing themselves to get the service that they deserve? In the first place with bitcoin, their sole purpose is to transact freely, anonymously and without limitations, that doesn't really promote anti-racism, as if they accept to not acquire their rights as a citizen to benefit from financial institutions.

I first saw some memes pertaining to anti-racism but with people holding banners to attract people to use bitcoin. I never think of deeper meaning why till OPs post.

Still, for me, bitcoin will not be the solution, they don't need bitcoin to transact freely, it is their right to do so.

Some people said that if racism has to end then USA has to stop electing people like Donald Trump. Election of Donald Trump was a direct result of a majority of Americans choosing to embrace the very qualities that define a base nature of human beings. There are certain blessed souls that by very nature turn out to be decent human beings. The majority, on the other hand, needs to be shaped by parents and society. Left to their own accord, people very quickly choose to be degenerate and depraved. Especially with the western philosophy of "My life, my rules" etc.

People hate being told that their stupid gut feeling that wants to make fun of someone less privileged is a bad thing. Everyone wants to grab'em pussies. There was this fatfuck, redneck on one of Trevor Noah's videos saying in front of his daughter "Ohh, yes, i want to grab some pussy". So while everyone hates being preached or virtue-signalled, this very attitude is used to browbeat those who ask society and people to be better than themselves.

Americans were tired of two terms of being told by a decent man to be better. So they elected this abomination. Sure there were legitimate reasons too but those could as well have been represented by a honest-to-god, born and bred conservative. Yet, after Obama, Trump sounded like a liberating waft of fresh air with his misogynistic, racist, bullying remarks. This is a guy who publicly makes fun of people's disabilities and his followers laugh along. Frankly, America is a cesspool of such people. Racism is just another expression of their inherent belief that the black man used to be his slave.

Another reason why they come down so heavily on those black people seems to be the sheer intimidation the American whites live in from those black, physically powerful, sculpted bags of muscles. The genetics make the black man predisposed to better physical endowments than the caucasians despite generations of black surviving on crumbs while these white, fat fucks gulping red meat and wine. The eugenics-prone American establishment fears that what happens if the blacks become prosperous and have access to every opportunity for power. This fear is also one of the reasons that the white man is afraid to see black men as equals. Deep down he realizes that they are better than him.

"The Watchmen's" all-powerful protagonist Mr. Manhattan is the very embodiment of this fear. Its just that he is blue and not black.

I still don't understand which role you want bitcoin to play about racism. Bitcoin is universal currency. It is used by everyone irrespective of the race. The only thing you can do is to support donations that fund project that fight against racism such is the black live matters you have mentioned. I saw people making huge donation through the popular website gofundme. Similar platform that accept donation in crypto can also be used to support the movement

Couldn't agree more with your arguments about Bitcoin not being a 'thing' that differentiates in any sort of way. The fact is that BTC is for everybody that's up for this technological challenge and wants to know more about what the future stocks and finance might be. BTC and crypto in general is for anybody either super rich, comfortable or poor - you just need some guts and a little spare cash!

Racism with respect to color, race, religion continent or whatever has no role in this new society built by cryptocurrency, so lets not involve/relate racism to literally anything we can think of.

It's sad to see how people try to apply Bitcoin to something that it has nothing to do with, because this signifies that some people aren't satisfied with Bitcoin as it is now and want it to be something more.

Bitcoin was never meant to change every aspect of our lives, its purpose is to have payment system without intermediaries. Financial intermediaries aren't a part of the racism, aside from some very rare cases, so Bitcoin obviously doesn't help here.

Bitcoin can play a role.

https://blog.blockonomics.co/overcoming-systematic-racism-with-bitcoin-5e0ccabd4eb3

What systematic oppression? Is there some sort of Apartheid, like in South Africa in the twentieth century?
Is there any form of institutional racism in the USA right now?I know that racism is still a problem in the US,but "systematic oppression" is quite a big exaggeration.
Playing the "victim role" won't solve any problem ever.
Bitcoin can't solve any political and social problem in the world. We should keep BTC out of the conversation.

I dont really think that Bitcoin has anything to do with this kind of issue. Like what most of the people replied here, Bitcoin is literally for everyone. It doesn't matter if you are white nor black.

In order to combat Racism is through educating people that each race is this world should be looked equally. Everyone has rights and will to live.

There is no way to overcome racism. It was debated, protested and it came to the point that it went to a civil war. It may lessen but it will never be eradicated in our society. In fact, even in this forum racism exist. We can`t say that educating the children may solve to remove racism in our society but it may help the future generation to become fair at all.

I believe that racism occurs because of mentality not in the color of the skin. We are all fair regardless of what we are in society, whether your born tan, black, white and even yellow. But the mindset of racists kill it. If ever bitcoin will help to solve this problem, being anonymous is really helpful.

Racism is something that has existed since ancient times and comes from difference, the greater the difference and diversity, the more countries will gain more intellectual and epistemic wealth.

A country like the United States has succeeded in developing this diversity and difference and made it a source of strength, but many African countries have failed in this, and therefore have failed to revive their peoples.

Bitcoin will help unite the whole world in a single currency, thereby increasing the global feeling that something unites us.

I don't believe that Bitcoin and racism have anything to do with each other. They are completely separate topics, you are comparing apples and oranges.
Yeah I don't see the point of racism and bitcoin too, but I see the use of bitcoin, it is accessible and open to every one unlike the racism. But I don't really think that bitcoin can play a role with this old problem of ours. And stop with bitcoin will unite us, or some sort of thought like that the fact that bitcoin is decentralized and volatile there is no way that we are just going to sit if the price is skyrocketting. Don't be a fool, sell!

With racism though, well white thinks that they are the superior on all humans ( not including all, there are good whites ) but the history tells itself.

The role we can take to remove this kind of hatred among the people not only in the US but in the whole world. is to teach our kids not to make them think they are better than those who have less fortunate. this is the very first thing we need to tell them and the other such as not being arrogant and racist will also follow if we can start them with good manners. We cannot help to teach those old men with a racist mind because it's already engraved in their minds that this is their norm. On the other hand, to link bitcoin with this problem is not really necessary because we already have this kind of problem long before the bitcoin has been created.

if feel like you are trying so hard to abuse a very global and serious matter to just generate some traffic to your own website. otherwise there is no link between bitcion and "overcoming racism" in any meaningful way. the article also doesn't convince me otherwise since it has no valid arguments in my opinion.

There is a FOMO brewing...

How in the hell btc or any posts like the topic starter's one can solve this problem? It never seizes to amaze me how brainwashed into being "opressed" people are in the wealthiest and war-less places on earth. Take on your responcibility and stop playing a victim, this makes you weak and actually useless for solving problems you want to adress in the first place

I don't know much about the george-related racism problems in US. I don't think it is a real problem that deserves my participation....it's unfortunate that people are becoming victims of an evil agenda. I have warned several times that sometimes like this will be happening if people are not careful. Similar problems were almost created *and encouraged* multiple times where I live (I believe they are being tried in other countries too) but they were always avoided because people listened. Unfortunately evil is growing and people are becoming more hardened... it will be difficult to talk them out of participating/causing crisis, and taking more baits unless by the grace of GOD.
The current racism issues and other similar problems are distraction by the evil one to "graduate" or gain more control on people and to introduce more evil in this world (people don't seem to believe this when I say it). It was created deliberately and people are used as energy to make it worse. I believe you could easily solve racism and tribalism without resorting to insulting/fighting yourselve both online and offline. The distractions are needed by them.

Your minds should all be focus on bigger choas, the lost of more freedom to the evil one and increase in evil.  Most people are under the control of the evil one. *You are not getting emancipated*. . His gaining more control over you if you don't change your ways for good

I don't believe that Bitcoin and racism have anything to do with each other. They are completely separate topics, you are comparing apples and oranges.

The one and only thing the American establishment worships is money.

If I were looking to upend a society that did not value me I would not be out on the streets pulling down statues or on Twitter cancelling people. I would be labouring to a build an economy outside of the existing one. There is no move you could make more powerful or lasting than that.

That's where Bitcoin comes in.
