Bitpay money lost

Yesterday June 22th I realized that 0,35 BTC had been sent from my Bitpay account to an unknown address !

What should I do ?  Bitpay guys say that the transactions has completed and it is irreversible !

Is there a way to find who is the one who stole this money ?

If you know it definitely wasn't you, you could ask them to forward any identifiable information onto the relevant authorities/law enforcement.

Is there a reason you left your funds on here, if 0.35btc is a lot to you then you might want to empty your wallet into a computer or hardware wallet more often.

There isn't really anything you can do.
Like @jackg said your only option is talking to LE. But they can't do much either.
Once Bitcoins are sent out they are not recoverable. Your only shot is working with LE, and hoping the thief puts them on a cooperating exchange which will seize them.

There's nothing you can do.
Someone probably hacked your account and sent it to their own wallet.
This is completely impossible to get back, unless you hack their wallet :/

Someone probably has your login credentials, if not, then your device is infected with a sensitive information stealing malware.  You might want to change all your login credentials for all our sensitive accounts, wipe your device clean, install a fresh OS and start a fresh.

The money is gone, nothing much can be done to recover it. Worst of it, using Law Enforcement might even cost you more money

Post the transaction ID here and let us find the address who receives the BTC and maybe someone here on the forum owns this address.

Or you can do it with your self just simply copy the BTC address who receives the 0,35 BTC then paste it on Google. Also, try to paste the BTC address on the forum advanced search and maybe someone here on the forum owns this address.

Also, try to use btc.com explorer paste the BTC address and look for mentions as the image shows below.

I used Bitpay in the past and from what I understand its currently mobile only from what I understand. Basically you make an account, you get the 12 worded seeds and its your own wallet.  If you want to withdraw cash at an ATM you need to send the BTC from your wallet to Bitpay.

So since the BTC was in your own wallet, I am assuming you wrote the 12 words somewhere public and someone stole it. Did you email it to yourself? Maybe you got some android malware.

Bitpay's response is expected to be like that. It's a fact that transactions are irreversible and there is no way to get it back. There could be a way to trace the hacker but it's impossible that a thief will return something that he stole.

Trace also what were the websites you have used which you have required to use your bitpay account. Any of those could be the culprit for your loss and made to phish people.

You can with supports from the site but it will be a long investigation.

I would not place too much hope that the hacker could be from this forum, and moreover that the address in question was publicly displayed on the forum. BitPay may possibly provide information about the IP address from which the transaction was performed, but there is little chance that the hacker did not use TOR/VPN.

Except in the case of some kind of security vulnerability (unlikely), there is a possibility of user error through phishing or inappropriately saved backup. If it was preserved in electronic form without being encrypted, then the attack vector is quite clear.

It is better to ensure that all of your accounts are safe and change all passwords, making sure that all of your computers are clean so that you do not lose more currencies.
You can track these currencies, but recovering them will be almost impossible, if the hacker is stupid, you may be able to recover them, but most likely he will use one of the mixing services and run away with the money.

Let this incident be a lesson to you that you should never store your crypto assets online and you should always have 2FA activated on exchanges.

If you some how are able to trace the person who did this to you. It is highly unlikely that you will get your amount back.

I hope the OP will post how he saved the backup and can he confirm that he used the legal BitPay and not some phishing site.

That's more than $3300 to the current price that we have. We can easy tell that with anyone who don't have hopes anymore getting back the money but, moving on is going to be hard for him if that's all the money he got.

It could even be his life savings and something important will used for it. I hope that op will track those websites that he used for logging in his bitpay account.

First thing you should do you scan your computer for keyloggers like stiller, azorult or predator.

Update your OS to latest, if its win 10 make sure the virus scanner is from Jun 2020

Optionally totally clean your computer.

AFTER its clean or from a totally different computer change all your login passwords, dont do this from your normal system before cleaning it, you might still have the keylogger sending new info to a server.

Finally, dont download free torrent games or software, they are usually infected with malaware. Some goes ope ing mail from unknown sources or opening attachments like word, excel or pdf.

What was the last activity you did on Bitpay, did you send BTC to another address or was there a suspicious activity on your account because it was hacked, but it was difficult to withdraw because it had to verify the message via email and also Google Authenticator code.

I'm sorry to read about your problem. 0.35 BTC isn't small amount of money. But I'm afraid that chance that you can get back your money is minimal. Bitpay won't return it, because they will say that it was your fault that you didn't secured your account. At least 2FA is must use thing if you decide to keep crypto on web services. You also should check, maybe your device have keylogger or other malware and this is how hacker reached your account.
And in general, it's not good idea to keep Bitcoin, especially big amount of it on web wallets or services like Bitpay. As you can see, unfortunately it's not safe. If you want to secure your crypto, it would be better to use desktop wallet like Electrum or in perfect scenario - hardware wallet.

Op didn't come back after posting this thread, we don't know what exactly happened.

If OP set up the double security level of his wallet, I think the chances of getting a hack are very slim. Just like having 2FA or even PIN/fingerprint lock for better security, I have doubt that the thief was probably just around him and might know his account's credentials personally.

But that's a good point and much better if OP will come back and post it here the transaction if his lost Bitcoin from Bitpay wallet.
