A very abrupt announcement , bitcoin.com forum apparently closes on July 23 !! The news was provided by the admin on 24 June. Till the date there is no specific reason so as why the forum is closing..

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoincom-forum-closes-on-july-23

Considering how popular the forum is plus it was actually started by an early adopter of Bitcoins I do think this is not a beneficial step for the community.

Roger Ver, did do a great job in the starting, promoting Bitcoins but with time he used all his time on BCH, that's his choice no offence , but he did do a lot of unreasonable things in the way of promoting the BCH . He is thought to be a part of scams and attacks that tried to make the price low to scare away the investors.

I do think now doing this he is actually trying to dump Bitcoins entirely , even though his forum provided BTC and  BCH , it still was named Bitcoin.com ! That is why people used it.. I do think he is causing more trouble for himself through this .

Then again am more than happy to see our forum being handled very well .

Bitcoins were always supposed to be something about freedom for people, these kinds of steps actually tries to make the thing more centralized , more controlled . This is a really bad mark on his already spoiled image .

What do you guys think about it ? Does it matter in your opinion ? Should we be ready for some more new members here soon ?

I think this forum is the most popular one among crypto users. I haven't actually visited their forum, so I have no idea if there are active users on their forum. If they are closing, it's only one thing - they are not doing good in sustaining its activity.

Maybe it's popular enough for people to know it exist but not enough to be actively use. I skimmed thru their boards and there relatively isn't much of a discussion there plus this stats:

In total there are 91 users online :: 5 registered, 0 hidden and 86 guests (based on users active over the past 15 minutes)
Most users ever online was 5543 on Fri Feb 23, 2018 10:06 pm

Most likely, the reason why they're shutting down their forum is because they aren't gaining much from it. I don't think this will have a significant effect to the overall community, in fact, Roger Ver being the myself > everything else type of guy makes me think this is actually beneficial.

The URL isn't that unique though, can be typosquat easily.  I agree, I've heard of it about a year ago but I didn't bother myself to visit coz I know I've got enough in bitcointalk. Talking about forums, I know a lot of us visited the cryptotalk forum, do you know their pay-per-post incentive? they already get rid of that coz that only brings them a lot of spammer coming from a particular countries. I've heard they already come up to a new gimmick, instead of giving out money, they started giving tokens. Feel sorry for bitcoin.com, could've been experience a venture.

Most likely, the reason why they're shutting down their forum is because they aren't gaining much from it. I don't think this will have a significant effect to the overall community, in fact, Roger Ver being the myself > everything else type of guy makes me think this is actually beneficial.
Roger Ver could just fund it, why they need to close?

At least they are not closing it abruptly. The announcement was released a month before the site will actually close.

I guess it is about time to close it down. A site bearing the name Bitcoin on its domain while attacking it and claiming that a shitcoin is actually the real and original Bitcoin is not only misleading but also destructive of the entire reputation of Bitcoin.

I think this forum is the most popular one among crypto users.
Though they have a domain advantage, it's really not the most popular.

I haven't actually visited their forum, so I have no idea if there are active users on their forum. If they are closing, it's only one thing - they are not doing good in sustaining its activity.
Pre-BCH fiasco, I was also pretty active on that forum. And though while it's was a bit active in 2016, Bitcointalk was still getting far more traffic and activity. On the other hand, Bitcoin.com's forum activity was slowly but surely dying since 2018. Even the mods and admins were really inactive as there was so much spam posts there that aren't getting deleted immediately.

Considering how popular the forum is
bitcoin.com might be high in search results due to its name but the site itself is nowhere near the top search results. the forum on that domain is even worse, it won't even come up in top search results.
also checking the forum itself, it seems mostly dead already which explains why it is closing down (due to lack of popularity).

Quote
plus it was actually started by an early adopter of Bitcoins I do think this is not a beneficial step for the community.
also a scammer.

Quote
Roger Ver, did do a great job in the starting, promoting Bitcoins
i don't think so. he has made a lot of empty claims and hyped himself up.
not to mention that even if he did anything for promoting bitcoin once in many years ago, from somewhere before 2017 until today he has been damaging bitcoin a lot which would negate anything he may or may not have done.

Quote
I do think now doing this he is actually trying to dump Bitcoins entirely
lol that's absurd Cheesy
people like Ver never go anywhere, they know the potential that bitcoin has more than anybody else even if their mouth tells you otherwise in public.

I have never been on that forum much. I think the constant AMA option was quite good. There could be something of that sort on bitcoin.org too so core devs can answer them at their own time. The website itself with its bent towards BCH branding seems like an abomination to me. Maybe its just my bias due to the mercantile midset of its promoter. His stupidity is always on public display with his over-the -top statements about all that he has done for bitcoin. Ironically, he used this as a justification to attack bitcoin.

People like him will by their very nature find it hard to support anything that is not giving them monetary gains. The forum may have devolved into that category due to non-usage like somebody pointed out. So, off it goes to the trash can.

According to Similarweb.com,Bitcointalk.org has around 2.28 million pageviews per month, while Bitcoin.com has 3.3 million pageviews per month. You can check Similarweb.com,if you want.
I'm not sure how accurate the similarweb data is,but I was kinda surprised of the results.
Bitcoin.com seems a little bit more popular than Bitcointalk.org,but that's because of the better domain name.
Bitcoin newbies would trust a forum called Bitcoin.com more than Bitcointalk, unfortunately.
What's weird is the monthly traffic of Bitcoin.com increased from 1.9M to 3.1M views in February-March 2020.This is because of the pandemic,I guess.

I'm really not surprised that Bitcoin.com is getting far more traffic compared to Bitcointalk due to it's dominating domain authority, but take note that Bitcoin.com itself isn't shutting down, only their forum segment is getting shut down(which was pretty much dead for a while anyway). It's only going to be a very small hit to bitcoin.com as far as I know, because most people aren't going to bitcoin.com for their forum feature in the first place.

If your predictions become true (he is seeking ways to get out of bitcoin completely) this will be disastrous for bitcoin in the short and mid term.

It will be fine in the long term but the recovery might take years. If the rumors were true, this dude owns thousands of btc, then he can pump and dump again it for a long time.

I also believe that, and honestly, I never know that there is a forum named bitcoin.com, bitcointalk is the one and only bitcoin forum I have participated.
Usually forum members would like to stick to the most popular, so maybe lack of members is the reason why it's closing, maybe they lack promotion like other forums are doing.

Never heard of this forum before to be honest. Majority of the population familiar with crypto identify Bitcointalk as the most popular cryptocurrency related forum and that is a fact. If you search for Bitcoin forum on Google, Bitcointalk is the 1st result.

I am not really a fan of Roger Ver and his work though I do respect him and his work(Sometimes). He can always open another forum even if the one that you are talking about is shutting down.

If the forum is closed the opposite will happen But I don't think this forum can be closed so soon The bitcointalk forum is very popular for working on crypto Most people in the crypto world depend on forums. It is more popular than other sites If this site goes down many people will lose their source of work This is a very reliable site Bitcoin Talk is very trustworthy in terms of various activities and staying active There is no reason to be so close.

I think this forum is the most popular for anything/everything Bitcoin/Crypto. Also I see huge success rate of HQ threads and post replies here than there. I have heard a few months back they fired most of their staff and closed the bitcoin(dot)com merchandise store.

I think you're confused. We're not talking about Bitcointalk, but another forum

It will be fine in the long term but the recovery might take years. If the rumors were true, this dude owns thiusands of btc and he can pump and dump again it for a long time.

I think he's smart enough to sell his coins on OTC so he can get the full money. Besides, volumes are quite good so I don't think it will be that disastrous.

If he was that smart he wouldn't have gone with bcash in the first place. I'd rather expect him go with the maximum damage route this time because why not.

His kind of people usually don't go down silently.

What do you guys think about it ? Does it matter in your opinion ? Should we be ready for some more new members here soon ?

People in Bitcoin.com usually coming here in Bitcointalk.org for some news as well so i think most of them will be coming here permanently now after the said forum closed next month.

What i am thinking is the true reason why suddenly they need to close the forum while there are many active members circling their platform up to now.

and it is alarming that a Big Bitcoin forum closing, because just like Bitcointalk.org Bitcoin.com is active for bitcoin users.

If he was that smart he wouldn't have gone with bcash in the first place. I'd rather expect him go with the maximum damage route this time because why not.

His kind of people usually don't go down silently.

being smart is not always about being constructive and honest, sometimes it is about service self interest and in his case it has always been about making money and filling his own pocket at any cost even if it is scamming others. supporting bcash falls under the same reasoning. he would have never been able to gain control over such a large percentage of hashrate in bitcoin but he did in bcash, he would have never been able to take the control of biggest portion of bitcoin market but did in bcash, he would have never been able to pump and dump and make profit from bitcoin that he did in bcash,.... and a lot more.

Nah man, Bitcoin isn't even going to experience the slightest of damage. How can a dead forum shutting down even impact bitcoinin the first place?

1. Bitcoin.com is mostly a forum for big blockers(bitcoincash people).
2. Bitcoin.com's forum has been on a downtrend for years, and is only on it's last leg.
