Interesting. Read bitcoin.com and searched the article thinking it was Bcash but it is written BTC clearly. I find it like a one step toward mass adoption  Wink

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

I don't know if we have the same situation about the Post office, In my country post office is only controlled by the government, is it the same with Australia too? So their government approves all of it or I am just too excited lol, If it is that is a huge adoption incoming given that Australia has a huge population too. I hope it will happen in my country I believe it will happen soon.

This is really positive news for cryptocurrency. More and more countries are starting to adopt bitcoin, to my knowledge there
are several countries in Europe that are do the same thing as australia. But I forgot the name of the country.

It looks like the massive adoption of Bitcoin has begun in Australia. The Aussie citizens can now deposit BTC at the post office due to the collaboration of Bitcoin.com.au and 3,500+ post offices in Australia.

What do you think of this move guys? Do you think other countries would follow suit? Or are there other countries before Australia who have implemented this in their own post offices as well?

This was posted by CoinTelegraph: https://cointelegraph.com/news/australians-can-now-pay-for-bitcoin-at-the-post-office

I would love to see it being implemented in the Philippines as well in the near future.
Crypto currency in Australia is now legal and we can expect to it that it will be having a big improvement in many factors of being a rich country. The first factor that can be affected by crypto currency is their financial system because their currency can be replaced by crypto currency so that they don't need to waste a lot of materials to make a paper money. Second is their way of living because trading will be an option for them if they don't want to take job outside of their house and the crypto community there will be bigger than before.

That is a very good move from the country because bitcoin adoption has just began. We have experience and seen some good news about the Australia post office accepting bitcoin. The world is coming to bitcoin gradually and when it's due for the global adoption bitcoin will expand tremendously. Hope to see other countries looking for ways to get bitcoin involve in their activities.

I love to hear how Bitcoin began to spread his wings all over the globe. This move could literally followed by some other countries. The post office is a huge and important sector for different deliveries having the convenientto accept btc as payment is greatly add to the soaring adoption of btc.

I hope they also extend it to some other coins like eth and other that are massively used on transaction. Im not gonna vouch for xrp but as long as they play fair in this then there is no problem. Only Australia right? I wonder whose next in line giving some acceptance of btc.

BIG WINNER!

As @Lucius mentioned they do not accept Bitcoin!
It's about citizens able to buy Bitcoin (using their local money). And the fact people can buy bitcoins doesn't make a country crypto-friendly as several users say here. Crazy people, as soon bitcoins can be bought or used they think the country is friendly to BTC. For sure we don't have the same definition for something friendly

Nowhere does it say that people can pay for their stamps in BTC. Only people here believe that.

Getting to understand the process of purchasing Bitcoins at an Australian (not Austrian) post office may shed some light on whether this is a sweet deal or not : https://bitcoin.com.au/australia-post/ and https://www.finder.com.au/you-can-now-pay-for-bitcoin-at-australia-post-offices-with-5-9-in-fees

Quote
1.   Make sure you have a cryptocurrency wallet ready to receive the funds.
2.   Go the Bitcoin.com.au website.
3.   Click "Buy Bitcoin".
4.   Enter the amount you want to buy and your Bitcoin wallet address.
5.   Verify your identity by providing some personal information (only if it's your first purchase).
6.   Double check the details and lock in your transaction.
7.   Complete your transaction by going into an Australia Post branch, showing them the locked-in transaction on your phone and making payment.
8.   Experience a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach as you realise you just paid a total of 5.9% in fees plus about 1.2% on the spread.

Quote
The total cost of about 7% here consists of:
•   Bitcoin.com.au's standard commission fee of 3.9% + GST
•   A 2% surcharge for this particular payment method
•   Roughly 1.2% on the spread
Not precisely the simplest of methods, and pretty steep commisions. Sometimes we need to save the fireworks for a better occasion …

I believe that Post office nowadays has no really big function at all right?because of internet the sending of letters and other works offers by post office are really having a hard time so accepting crypto means they are offering something different from normal.
And this is best for us here in Bitcoin world.
The good news for crypto users is increasing day by day, I think soon there will be widespread support from different governments around the world To accept payment by bitcoin. So let's wait for more good news, and hope my country also contribute to Bitcoin adoption!

there are some states in US that i believe are accepting also Bitcoina s payment in government service.
so this is much better for all of us cryptonians.

I'm glad to hear this kind of news because this is something we've been waiting for. I'm sure now that they are implementing it in Australia, many companies will also implement the use of bitcoin in their stores. things are going our way this year despite this deadly pandemic. We don't hear some exchange hacking nowadays which is good and every news about bitcoin is only great news like this one. Although this will not affect the price of BTC in the market today, this is something we can say a way to make that happen in the future.

Nobody is reading the discussion or visit the link posted in the original post or what?

Reading is time-consuming, and many forum users don't want to spend their time on such trivial things - even if the thread only has 2 incomplete pages. But as I already wrote, the OP was definitely wrong that BTC can be deposited at the post office, users can buy it with cash or EFTPOS (electronic funds transfer at point of sale).

The difference between the services offered by some post offices in the EU and the Australian post office is that some only allow the purchase of BTC, while others offer only the sale of the same.

I can agree that such actions do not mean that a country is completely crypto friendly, but that is only slightly more liberal than the others. It is a well-known fact that such jobs generate considerable income, so it should come as no surprise that crypto exchange offices are expanding their offer through post offices. This is not about the state starting something on its own, but about private companies that expand their business in this way.

I must say Australia is very friendly on Cryptocurrency!
On 4th May VeChain and Mastercard are among the heavy hitters backing the new APAC Provenance Council, focused on Australia's 76$ billion of exports to China. And now they welcoming BTC; it’s really a great sign!
Right! This is really a great sign for bitcoin in particular and cryptocurrencies in general. It proves that bitcoin still has the ability to recover after being seriously affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. If the post office in Australia accepts bitcoin, then many parts of Australia will be. It will drive bitcoin prices up. That is what we are waiting for.

I am glad to see some clarification regarding the purchasing process. Thanks DdmrDdmr.

Even though I agree with the overall sentiment regarding a cumbersome process and high fees, I continue to appreciate that buying and selling locations are continuing to expand - and surely some people are going to find out about bitcoin because it is being offered for purchase (or able to sell in other locations) through seemingly official channels.

Many of us likely realized that a lot of direct p2p channels had dried up last year when local bitcoins became more strict on many locations, yet even though premiums may have existed through some of that p2p exchanging, at least the KYC/AML had opportunities to be lower, and we are likely going to continue to be looking out for the expansion of p2p options - which may take a decent amount of time, including the onboarding of more people who are ready willing and able to transact in BTC.. which comes after becoming a HODLer rather than from starting out as a nocoiner.  In other words, it is will be easier to attempt to convince a HODLer to directly exchange some BTC than a nocoiner who has no clue about any of it, including not having a wallet.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

We know that Australia is crypto friendly country, but accept bitcoin on post offices is a big move. Post office is a government organization and that's why we might say this is a massive adoption for bitcoin. Who know if Australia start accept bitcoin in other sectors as well if post office plan work good. I believe now even general people from Australia will know about bitcoin when they will go post office for something. It would motive for others crypto friendly countries as well. Hope soon we will see more adoption of bitcoin worldwide.

This is some cheery news to the community, I should think so. We need more outlets outside Australia to join in the queue.

A couple of years ago, Paypal CEO did say that Bitcoin is the biggest scam in history due to pump and dump. Now he threw off his hat and decided not to be left behind, and they realized it very much because more and more people are now shifting to Bitcoin.
Gradually, the chickens are coming to roost. It remains Warren Buffet to renounce his scam disposition on Bitcoin. They were too quick to conclude on something they didn't have a complete grasp of.

Same here, it would be awesome if Phippines Post office will implement such adoption but I doubt that it will happen soon because as far as I know Government offices are the last one to implement trending stuff unless it is really a necessity.

Well, it is Australia today and soon after we will see more countries to adopt Bitcoin as payment mode.  Aside from that, Bank of America had already declared that Bitcoin along with ether has been recognized as cash advance.

That's okay. Someone has said something like this about their country as well, but I can't remember which country was that again. They said their citizens can exchange their Bitcoin at the embassy. These are the type of news I always like to see and not the ones of how the government is planning to place a ban on cryptocurrency, which is very bad.

But, it's not like this in my country and I do wish that the government in my country will consider, although I do know that there are lots of things we are facing and that might be why no one is looking at that direction for now.

I hope that, every rich and powerful country will legalize BTC very soon and we will able to make all kind of payments through Bitcoin. it will make our life easier.

In my understanding, those under-developing countries will be having more possibilities for adopting bitcoins before developed counties. Some 3/4 years back itself Swiss post offices started adopting bitcoins/selling bitcoins and now Australia and Japan must be the first counted legalizing bitcoins and USA is always a crypto friendly country. From all these, I guess it is time for tier-2 and tie-3 countries to think about bitcoins for their people better life style.

It is a great news to know that Australia have already implemented such actions of accepting Bitcoin usage at their post offices. Even though it was simple for me to think, it is still a great move done towards adaptation of Bitcoin because by that way, people will get into using Bitcoin not just the people who have already using it but as well as the other people might get encourage to use and acquire Bitcoin because of that.

Well mate, I am also looking forward for that thing to happen in the Philippines but I think that was still too far to happen since there are still lots of issues that are in need to be attended first before pursuing to adapt Bitcoin usage in the Philippines. Not just Bitcoin but as well as all the other cryptocurrencies. But still I am not losing hope for that day to come. It is just that time will tell when will that thing can happen. Let us just see.

It is up to the regulatory frameworks and the extent to which the population accepts payment in digital currencies.
It is the extent of acceptance and thus the achievement of economic profits, so long as there are regulatory laws and regulatory frameworks, everything is possible and acceptable.
Many countries will be like Australia over time, and in 10 years a lot will change.
