Personally the youths are reacting so well to Bitcoin and no wonder why because most of them are coders, devs or even working in IT or doing financial or economy studies or simply are not afraid of new currencies/assets.
It is true that majority of the bitcoiners are from the finance or IT sector and then the young generation who are trying to find resources to make money online are there in the market especially in the social media and the advertisement sector to promote projects in this space and moreover it is a new market space and it is not that strange.

I had two clients from America I want offer graphics designing jobs for, I demanded my payment would be in BitcoinBTC or Ethereum. To my greatest dismay, they were dumfounded on what Bitcoin or Ethereum is. I am still suprised up to this very moment. Cheesy Roll Eyes

Okay I understand why you have specified "Americans", first because he's your client and second because that statistics in the internet shows the large number of people in America that are into cryptocurrency. The question is, does this surveys done unbiasedly? I mean, you'd be more surprised If you'd talk about Bitcoin to someone you bumped into every single day.
10+ years ain't enough for Bitcoin to be widely known/accepted globally, some have heard once but never interested.

Anyway, that's still a good thing you have mentioned Bitcoin or Ethereum to your client, that atleast made them aware that paying and receiving this kind of currency is possible.

Accounting fields or in finance fields also.
Let's don't hate OP because of this, he/she just sharing experience about these.
It's also good because he/she mentioned about Bitcoin or Ethereum in other people, so those people will start becoming curious about Bitcoin or Ethereum, they will start to research about Bitcoin/Ethereum for sure because of this.

There are many Americans who don't know what Bitcoin is. This is completely normal because not everyone is involved in bitcoin. Not only Americans, but also many people in other countries are completely ignorant of bitcoin such as Vietnam, Laos ... Bitcoin is not widely available because this field requires a lot of capital to invest. Least developed countries have very few people who know bitcoin.

I am surprised that you're surprised. It's not like Bitcoin was taught in school books, nor is it posted on every wall outside or every ad on the internet. It's like you're asking someone, "Why don't you know this game?" when they aren't even a gamer. If they were along the lines of developer/businessman, you can be half surprised since both have the chance of actually chancing upon Bitcoin. Besides, even the majority of the people who know about Bitcoin only know the word, they don't even know what it is.

Okay I understand why you have specified "Americans", first because he's your client and second because that statistics in the internet shows the large number of people in America that are into cryptocurrency. Agree. Most Surveys are done in groups and a few that I found had only close to 1000-2000 citizens in each survey, which imo, is not enough considering how big and diverse the US can be. Sure, they can use it as basis but really, not everyone is literate when it comes to tech things, and some just even enjoy playing around with games and the like.

This is the fact, there are still a large number of people in the world who don't know what is blockchain and what is Bitcoin. Although it has been more than ten years since the birth of Bitcoin, because the concept is too abstract, it is still unfamiliar to most people.

The people, that have a PC/laptop/smartphone and browse the internet everyday have seen the term "Bitcoin" at least once for the last 10 years. They might have forgotten about it,but I doubt that they have never seen any article, news, social media post, forum post or video about Bitcoin at least once.
People, who aren't geeky and nerdy don't know anything about cryptocurrencies, but I'm pretty sure that they don't know almost anything about technology and internet in general, except the absolute basic stuff, like using Google and Facebook, visiting websites, clicking links and sending an email. Grin

Nothing is surprising with that, even though America is one of the countries that have the biggest number of crypto user, there are still so many people who still don't know what it is, even though in another country, there are still many people who don't know things about the crypto world because of some reasons. Maybe their government is now allowing cryptocurrency in their land because they don't still know the benefits of using it, they will waste the opportunity if that is the case because right now there are already many countries that are preparing for the bitcoin for the citizen.
Not everyone knows bitcoin because of different work backgrounds, even people in international countries or maybe you don't deal with people from the crypto community or have a history of cryptocurrency users. To me, that is not surprising because they will easily adapt to cryptocurrency users if they want to.
Well said, just like me, I only learned bitcoin because of my personal research, I was confused once my friend told me about it then I did research about it and found out that it is really helpful.

The absence of knowledge can be well explained by the fact that bitcoin is hard to understand for people that have never been interested in new technologies. Most people accept innovations only if they already adopted widely, if technology is being taken for granted. But there is another reason why bitcoin is still wild west. Bitcoin is not just innovation like electronic devices, for instance, bitcoin is financial innovation. We have never seen how money can evolve, now we can reconsider our views on how money should work. This is really interesting to observe innovations in financial fields, the most conservative field, where things move very slow, where innovations are rare.

Though there are already lots of exposures coming from mainstreams medias not all Americans are
taking time reading or following everything.
Most of them are busy working and doing other things which they've found more important than reading
the news, they are more concern with everyday life.

And it's true that not every places knows what bitcoin / crypto is all about, some thinks that it's scam and
just waste of time while others are not interested
following the developments of this industries, they are busy doing other things which related to how they do
for a living.

Its not unusual. Cryptocurrencies gained popularity online but we cant expect everyone is aware of its existence.

Even some people heard about crypto they are not interested to know further what blockchain is or how does it works.

So its not surprising, though I understand the disappointment of op because US is one of the country that has many users.

So that already means "Lot of American?"

So if one some people don't know how to use Google meaning "Lot of People around the world" don't know about google?

Not because your client know nothing about Crypto means many of their countrymen don't also Know this.

and Besides Bitcoin and ethereum and the whole cryptocurrencies are still in progress of spreading,10 years was not enough to let the whole world know about this and also there are many people denies this because of scam issue from the past and small still happening now.

There is nothing to be surprised. Still there are a lot of people around the world even did not hear about Bitcoin and American people are no different of course. Even those who heard about bitcoin to them it's a scheme or something which will pop up soon.

We are sill in the early stage of bitcoins.

The sums it up pretty nicely. The global acceptance rate is still very low. Reasons are manifold, like lack of interest, lack of education or bad press from mass media. People tend to avoid what they don´t understand. It´s unfortunate on one end, because it needs us to hone our patience skills, but good one the other end, since we are earyl and can adjust to a changing environment to make access easier.

Well, there are lots of people who still don't know crypto yet especially if were talking to young and old ones.

Old people are not that technologically inclined, they are not used to the use of technology in their surroundings and they are ignorant about it. There are still people around the world who are not that knowledgeable or informed about the existence of cryptocurrency in the market. Maybe some of them thinks that bitcoin is a scam and fraud investment, they are ignorant until we inform them and we support the promotion of cryptocurrency in our country. We need to engage to this kind of new transactions that includes digital currency, people should not waste the opportunity to learn bitcoin and get profits from them due to its volatility in the market.

I don't live in the USA so I don't know what degree of publicity bitcoin has there, and I don't know if the surveys I read are true or not but according to the surveys in 2019 they asked 5000 Americans and 64.8% of the respondents said they did not have bitcoin and did not plan to buy Bitcoin... Knowing that in the USA there are millions of people so we can imagine that there must still be millions of people in the USA who do not know about bitcoin, especially people over 50 years of age

Don't be dumfounded mate, there thousands of millions who have not hear about Bitcoin nor ethereum till now because they are too lazy to read some few pages of the news papers or even online news sites. Americans are also like any other country around the world, in my country, there are individuals who haven't still understand the Bitcoin of a thing. But with time, they will have full knowledge about this technology(Bitcoin and Ethereum).

It's not surprising at all. Not just in America but also in different countries. High percent of the population still not aware about bitcoin and they are not that interested on how it can be use as payment options and/or an investment.

As long as it is not fully welcomed and accepted by the government and banks, people are hesitant to use bitcoin as well. Maybe some know about bitcoin but they prefer fiat money for transactions.

He has every right to be surprised despite the fact that bitcoin was posted on every wall ads but bitcoin/blockchain are already among the brochure of some school in the US and it also easy for someone that gives graphic designer, dev, etc job online to know every mode of payment used online, so it normal for them to be surprised when his customers from the US said they are not an award of bitcoin.

Some prefer fiat because of government regulations, if they accept some crypto they can have problems. It shouldn't be a surprise that some people don't know anything about crypto, but when it comes to graphic designers it's a bit strange they did not encounter any crypto in last 10 years, on crypto adds...
There's no doubt we are still in early stages, many more people will have to join crypto, and even more important we need more companies and institutions to join. No need to rush it, we have a good direction, we need to be patient and to continue promoting crypto to people around.

Haha, you shouldn't be surprised man, it is only natural that a lot of people from a lot of countries specially people from the us don't know about crypto currencies. Main reason would be because it isn't mainstream yet which makes it not something that people will most likely talk about or recommend thus the information are limited so as the people who have heard of it. The only thing surprising about this is that the people you are talking about should be very familiar with computers and all. I wonder of they really haven't heard about it or are just acting ng dumb coz they do not like and trust enough crypto currencies. Just saying.
