You know what OP, the action you've just done is what will drive their curiosity to engage in bitcoin and cryptocurrency. The problem arises when we, bitcoin users became passive as if we are contented that we use it without thinking of helping bitcoin to grow, but through asking questions, they might search for it and see what it's capabilities.

IMO, it is also better than convincing people to try out bitcoin once in their lives, since asking them to directly receive payment from bitcoin will already prove its legitimacy.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Foul because you don't have to demand instead just ask them if they can do the payment in Crypto.

Know what?you must be thankful because at this chance you can let them Know what Bitcoin and ethereum is so they may invest or either use the crypto as mode of payment.

I think you should consider this everytime that Crypto is just spreading and not totally known like PayPal did.

That's not impossible to happened, because not every people knows about bitcoin or cryptocurrency many are believing in the rumor that bitcoin is a scam that's why even though they already heard about it they just ignore it. I think that's your time to introduce or explain how bitcoin or cryptocurrency works.
The number of people in this forum combined together with the number of people who know a thing about bitcoin compared to the entire population is not that much, the community is still a mote in comparison, so be forgiving and understanding to the people who do not know about. OP sounded condescending just because they do not know about it, do not be like that. If there is no way that they know about it then adjust because they are your clients and you are offering your services to them not the other way around.

It is not surprising at all for a reason that not only Americans doesn't aware of bitcoin or other cryptocurrency but mostly of the people all over the world. Cryptocurrency doesn't discuss normaly as what other concept can that is why numerous of people remain ignorant about it. No need to be dismayed at them. Instead, try to explain it to them. You also experienced not knowing it.

According to statista.com, only 70-80% of United States adults have a pc a laptop. Not all of them are even connected to the Internet, and some just use them simply for minesweeper or to do basic work with documents. No wonder that with population close to 330 billions, there are people who dont know what Bitcoin is.

To my greatest dismay, they were dumfounded on what Bitcoin or Ethereum is. I am still suprised up to this very moment. Cheesy Roll Eyes
Not only in America you will easily find a lot of people in other countries who don't know about bitcoin and its potentiality. I have similar experiences with some of my clients who have limited knowledge about bitcoin but good news is that after knowing about it from my side they start to use bitcoin and now they always give it priority as their payment option. Even some of them have already purchased a good amount of bitcoin for their future purpose. Worldwide crypto community is getting bigger day by day which is definitely a good sign for bitcoin and its overall growth.

There was a time people thought that bitcoin have no future and investing in bitcoin is too much risky but after seeing its growth and stability people have enough trust on its power and bright future. Maybe that day isn't too far when it will be the most popular payment option for modern civilization.

You know it is very common and I was introduced to bitcoins by someone similar a few years ago when I was working and I usually used to accept payment in Libertty Reserve (it was a prominent payment method during those times and very popular just like Perfectmoney is today) so I was working for a client and they offered me $200 for the complete project (I'll keep the project private cause of NDA) so they offered me Paypal and I refused and what they said next was bitcoins which was completely new to me and that is how I first got to know about bitcoins and then slowly I rolled into it and now hardly ever I accept payment in any other method unless there is no option left.

Hence, word of mouth is a great promotion for bitcoins and I believe the biggest power of decentralization since no one controls them you always know that someone is not promoting you for referral commissions.

So you made a conclusion that a lot of americans don't know about bitcoin based on your experience?
If that so, then I think you are right, though bitcoin is already considered as popular in USA but we can't say that a lot of people are already using it, that would result to massive adoption if a lot of people are already using bitcoin.

maybe we can help measure its popularity by the number of ATMs

As per this article - https://www.coindesk.com/5-popular-us-states-bitcoin, it made a conclusion that " One bitcoin ATM for every 1.67 million people".. so with that data, we can already tell the status of cryptocurrency in the USA.

This is due to the numerous scams and in the ransomware attacks which asked for bitcoins as a payment method. Moreover the news channels also describe bitcoin as a currency that is used on the dark web for illegal purposes, after watching this do you believe a person can try to buy bitcoins. Also there should be media campaigns that should advertise bitcoin as a currency and as a method to send money across borders without any significant fees and also we need to change the people's mindset towards digital currencies so as to increase the awareness and acceptance world wide.

There is nothing to be surprised. Still there are a lot of people around the world even did not hear about Bitcoin and American people are no different of course. Even those who heard about bitcoin to them it's a scheme or something which will pop up soon.

We are sill in the early stage of bitcoins.
I agree with you and I also say that there are many people who do not know about it. I do not speak of any other country. I only know that there are many such people in my country.  There are people in my own community who don't know anything about bitcoin and Ethereum.

From my point of view, there is nothing to be surprised off because there are still a lot of people who don't know about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Also, not only in the US because I think about 20% of people only know about bitcoin and 80% still don't know about bitcoin all over the world. It is the reason why other people advertise cryptocurrencies for more people will buy crypto and bitcoin.

While I am not much into statistics, I assume that those numbers you are referring to are not very small whatsoever, they seem very decent in my opinion. However, it doesn't even matter for average user who wants to use bitcoin. Bitcoin is essentially a protocol that can be accessed through any device connected to the Internet. Be it desktop, laptop, cell phone or fridge, almost any device connected can hypothetically be used to run an app on bitcoin network. The only problem here is that the potential of bitcoin is not obvious for those who live in countries with flourish economics, where an access to financial products isn't restrained.

thats not surprised me, why ?
i have 2 reason about this...
1. Almost bounty project, they do not allow for US people to following the project.
2. Maybe, lack of promotion about bitcoin at US country.

I think there are only 2 reasons above that cause this to happen

Just like the whole world does.

Almost majority of people around the world does not have any idea about bitcoin,or even crypto currencies.

So i think you should have let them learn what this is and for when they need to use.

it is your call to lure them inside crypto.

That is why bitcoin needs longer to be known by the people, so they can use bitcoin as what we did.
We can still introduce bitcoin to people who don't know about bitcoin, but we don't need to force them to learn more or use bitcoin if they don't want it because that will make them hate bitcoin.
Even if people connect to the internet, if they don't search for more information about bitcoin, they will not know, and they will skip the information that they found on many websites.
We can invite them to learn about bitcoin, and maybe we need to use another approach that can make them have an interest in bitcoin.

That sounds hilarious but saying Americans is just an understatement, as a bigger part of the global have never heard of Bitcoin, let alone knowing its functions and benefits to the global economy.
Awareness needs to be created for the global recognition of Bitcoin to take place.

Not early surprising here in our neighbor 9 out of ten people do not have an idea what Bitcoin is 4 out of 10 have read or heard about it but do not know what it's all about, this technology is still young and our generation has a huge task to promote and introduce this technology, we are lucky that we are already here and benefiting from this technology.

there are loads of interiors where people still get limited informations. Even though it is america, there is also some areas there where people have access to incomplete information and therefore they prioritize the informations that concerns their sustenance alone and careless about the global occurences. this is one of the reasons why we need people that will go about sensitising them on the latest technological innovations and blockchain technology to be particular

Probably, their country does lack of promotion that's why they are ignorant about the existence of cryptocurrency, it is just easy as that. If the government promotes the use of cryptocurrency freely and inform the people how it works then Americans could achieve mass adoption in Bitcoin easily. I know that it is not that easy to do that, but it takes a lot of process before the people to understand how bitcoin works.

It should've all start with the government. Not only Americans or US citizens who are not that knowledgeable about bitcoin. In some other rural areas in every country, they are not the introduced in the use of digital currency due to the lack of knowledge about advancement of technology. Once the bitcoin achieve mass adoption, transactions will become faster and more secured, just like what the OP wants to be paid.

Probably, their country does lack of promotion that's why they are ignorant about the existence of cryptocurrency,
seriously? what about those guys that we saw holding btc sign boards on the streets  . so many of those pics caught on different streets . there are also crypto that are televised on tv such as on bloomberg and other more . i dont think they lack of promotion  .

it is just easy as that. If the government promotes the use of cryptocurrency freely and inform the people how it works then Americans could achieve mass adoption in Bitcoin easily. I know that it is not that easy to do that, but it takes a lot of process before the people to understand how bitcoin works.
its not easy because i dont think a government will do that . why will they promote btc anyway  . its not thier job to do that . they can only allow or disallow it and thats it .  btc/crypto arent hard to learn , if people know how to use a paypal before , why not they cant use a crypto now
