Bitcoin has only been around for the past 10 years and is really famous since 2017 so very few people can know about bitcoin. In addition, governments don't like bitcoin and cryptocurrencies so they restrict the media coverage of bitcoin. But in the future bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market will have tremendous growth and I believe that cryptocurrencies will be a part of world finance.
All the lies and misconceptions had something to do with this for sure. If people weren't told on each step that it's used by scammers hackers and other criminals they would want to know more. If you're looking for someone to blame for this situation blame the media.

But if a user is really curious what is crypto or bitcoin, he will do further study and he will understand more about its true nature. However, people are still hesitant because of these crypto exchanges being hacked and people who were screwed by these blockchain projects. Give it a time and people will be smarter when dealing with these crypto news.

Because it requires research and grasping how the current monetary system works, as well as either some basing understanding of certain subjects from fields like economics, computer science and game theory.

I don't think its that complicated. Bitcoin is made so everyone can use it. You don't really need to research Bitcoin so you can use it or transact it. It is the same with other payment methods but it just has different ways of sending it. Maybe if you want to enrich, to develop your knowledge about cryptocurrencies, the things you had said would be necessary.

I was just trying to say, that modern technologies are not used widely on the whole territory of US. People dont know about Bitcoin not only because they dont have a proper device to run an app on it, but alto due to low interest in Bitcoin as such.
There are still people who prefer to use cash over credit cards (even if this dont improve or affect their credit score), they wont even bother using Bitcoin, even if this makes their payments quicker or easier. It is like soviet grandpas and grandmas, who prefer to immediately withdraw pension from debit card or wait for a postman to bring pension money in cash.
Some just attach to a mobile with NFC to terminal, most prefer cash. Everything is in "head". It is more preferable to hold money in hands, than have something virtual on account.
Cash is always preferable over credit card transaction and bitcoin when it comes to private local deals, because in that case your transactions are completely anonymous. The problem here is that transactions must be completed very fast before cash is debased, inflated, hyperinflated, seized by government. If you live in prosperous society with stable economics, you often don't care of such things, your currency is not debasing throughout a day. Someone said once that the US will be the last country to widely adopt bitcoin, because they don't actually need opportunities it offers.

I wonder why they don't tell the truth about crypto because that can help people to learn from them. People will come back to their website and read other news, and their site will become famous and popular. I think if they spread bad news to crypto, people will not come to their website, but people will search for other news that can give them the real news. People prefer to spend more time finding real news than to spend their time to read fake news. But for sure, people will blacklist the site because the site is not honest to them.

To my greatest dismay, they were dumfounded on what Bitcoin or Ethereum is. I am still suprised up to this very moment. Your request to be payed in btc was so random. I would understand if you already know your client as a btc user, but straight up ask him to pay you in btc is kind of really odd. I think its best if you asked him first if he uses btc as payment, nothing to be surprised honestly, it is known that btc isn't used as well as fiat, we have to accept not all are using btc. Some may heard about it a few times but don't expect its so widely used. Maybe one of your client knows about it but not really use it. And would you want your client learn btc just to pay you? Some client wouldn't go that far just to pay someone. Client will still choose the efficient way for them.

There is nothing to be surprised. Still there are a lot of people around the world even did not hear about Bitcoin and American people are no different of course. Even those who heard about bitcoin to them it's a scheme or something which will pop up soon.
We are sill in the early stage of bitcoins.
Yes I agree, there is nothing surprising about this one. Many people still do not know about bitcoin. Here in the Philippines only few people know more about bitcoin. Because of the fake news many people do not believe in bitcoin because they think that bitcoin is totally a hack or a scam. And same as American people Filipinos are also hesitant when it comes to bitcoin. There are people who are blinded about the real thing about bitcoin. These may also affect the success path of bitcoin. Few are not supporting because of the fake news.

If that's the case in your country then what more in the 3rd world countries? Only a few of us know what bitcoin and its capabilities. There is nothing to be surprised. Even those who heard about bitcoin to them it's a scheme or something which will pop up soon.

Yeah, There's a recent issue here in our country that involves bitcoin, and people thought it's a scam. Also, many of us are not aware of technological advancement so they don't really care about Bitcoin at all. They buy smartphones just for communications, that's all. Traditional minds always thought that they should stick to fiat and have a mindset that it's very dangerous.

You sure they said they don't what bitcoin is or did they say they can't pay in bitcoin? Probably you came across a small percentage of the people who didn't hear about bitcoin, or did but didn't give much heed to it. But, just based on two people you met who didn't know about bitcoin, you came to a conclusion that "whole lot of Americans" don't know what bitcoin is? Look at the survey one of the user posted above.

People who often work in the online world or work in a graphic media like your friends may not necessarily understand about bitcoin. Bitcoin for some people is just a virtual coin that they don't think will develop. Some Americans do not understand about bitcoin and what bitcoin was created for. But with some of the adoptions being carried out like in starbuck it will certainly make people know about bitcoin and its uses.
I have several friends who are experts in the IT field but he doesn't understand how to use bitcoin and how to get it.

If you look for it, you will find people in almost all countries of the world who do not know about science. But the way Bitcoin is spreading all over the world, I hope so the day is not far when the whole world will know Bitcoin. It's just a matter of time now.
And 10 years of its existence isn't enough by then. The continuous promotion online will help to spread but that also will matter of how the people give interest on it and how they think about crypto. The case that happens to the US is also happening globally for the reason that they don't appreciate crypto and that also for they are hearing scams and fraud incidents. Of course, age may matter for ages '50s and above won't certainly giving a hint on it but rather to keep of what they are doing today and in the past days.

If and only if, most of the people that use bitcoin will help it to grow and develop. Imagine, if we could invite even just one friend or relative to join and use bitcoin, and they'll do the same thing, there's no doubt that its popularity will boom. Though, the main hindrance I can see when introducing bitcoin to people is its reputation, some times I have some friends that when I asked them about bitcoin, their initial perspective is that, bitcoin is a tool to scam. In an e-commerce site, even a single poor rating could impact the product as a whole, so helping to maintain bitcoin to a good state would be the best thing we should do. If we can't promote bitcoin, please use it responsibly.

Across the globe, there are millions of people who despite them living in a developed country don't know about BTC or cryptocurrency at all. Ignorance for some is the norm, so there's the extra battle regarding adoption we as a community need to consider also. Simply having access to the internet isn't going to have people accept this new wave, and the matter is more complicated by people being either ignorant or not having access to the infrastructure - it's complicated!

I'm hoping that you are aware about the use of BTC since 2016, we are really having a hard time promoting bitcoin in social media platforms. It is very hard for us that time to address the government about the benefits and advantages of bitcoin as an asset to investment. We are trying so hard because we know that bitcoin is full of potential. Maybe, until now there are a lot of people who are still not that knowledgeable about how bitcoin works as a cryptocurrency in the market, especially US citizens. Some governments really treat bitcoin as a scam or fraud that's why they stick to the use of fiat in many transaction in their territory But in the future bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market will have tremendous growth and I believe that cryptocurrencies will be a part of world finance.
You should contribute too in the promotion and advertising of bitcoin in many platforms. Just by using it in some transactions is a simple but big help towards reaching mass adoption. Especially during this pandemic, digital currencies like crypto are very useful nowadays and becoming more popular.

From the very beginning, the US government was very suspicious of bitcoin and other decentralized cryptocurrencies. High risk propaganda was launched when investing in cryptocurrency. On this basis, citizens were prohibited from participating as investors in ICO projects. So partly it worked. People are very weakly interested in cryptocurrency in the United States. On the other hand, in relatively wealthy countries, where the high income of citizens is relatively less interested in cryptocurrency, than in poor countries.

Bitcoin does not necessarily have to be used by everyone around the world, but if only 3% of them know and 1% use it and make profits, we can easily know the rest about it. Innovations in the early days do not achieve much turnout, but in short periods they succeed in winning thousands and perhaps millions of followers. I believe in less than 10 years more than 20% of Americans will know about bitcoin

To my greatest dismay, they were dumfounded on what Bitcoin or Ethereum is. I am still suprised up to this very moment. maybe he doesn't know the current technological developments or he may never use the internet so he lags behind the information that is trending in today's world Or maybe he's too old to adopt changes in our modern technology and finds it very complex so he/she doesn't know how or don't want to use it. According to a report, the average age group of cryptocurrency investors is 37-44 but I've noticed that there is plenty on the younger generation too that are using cryptocurrency. While in the other study, it shows that 18-34 years old use cryptocurrency. Here's the study where I learned about the ages of the crypto investors; https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3501549##https://cryptobriefing.com/surging-interest-bitcoin-vs-gold/
