Recently my friend received a permanent ban on his main account. I understand bans, but permanent seems too much. Isnt this too harsh of a punishment?

No. It really isn't that hard to adhere to the rules. I've been here since 2013 and have never been temp. banned for anything.

It all depends on why the ban was issued...
If the "crime" was severe, a perma ban is the right thing to do.
Like scamming or a hard breach of the forum terms...

"My friend" meaning you?
Question: How come your friend needs someone else to post on their behalf instead of them doing it themselves?
Answer: Because your friend is posting on their behalf and pretending that it's someone else, for some misguided reason.

You know you're allowed to appeal bans with a new account, right?

Which breach of rules results in a permanent ban? Also, doesn't it make sense for people to have a chance to correct their errors?

A quick search on meta would let you know that plagiarism is the reason of most of the perma bans in this forum. If you are friend of the account, read all the forum rules before starting using the forum.

Considering that unless you get warned multiple times and end up with a ban, and where the only absolute permanent ban (without warning) is plagiarism... either you are blatantly copying and pasting content (which most people know not to do) or you are repeatedly breaking rules, meaning you've already had multiple chances to correct your error.

And considering the fact that all forum rules are public, you don't really have an excuse. You seem to understand English fairly well. Is that an issue for your "friend" as well?

What makes you think that I'm pretending to be someone else? I'm just asking for a friend that told me that he doesn't know why he got banned. Whether I'm asking for myself or someone else doesn't matter... I didn't break any rules and have been unfairly suspended. How would I dispute a ban and appeal it?? And yes I do understand English very well... thanks for "noticing" Smiley

Nice one. Not that it wasn't obvious.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and call that a Friendian slip: assuming that you are not the one who is actually banned, go tell your friend to post directly on their own behalf. They should be the one that is arguing for their unbanning, not you. They know their account activity better than their friend, and they know exactly how well they were posting (or how not-so-well they were posting). It's a little disappointing seeing people still resort to the "my brother, my mother, my friend" excuse even when it's not necessary. Just shows the scheming nature of their personality.

Recently my friend received a permanent ban on his main account <…>
"Main account", meaning that he runs other accounts too. A friendly gesture would be to inform your friend that the ban applies not just to his main account, but rather to all his accounts (past, present and future), except for the account he may use to create a ban appeal here, on Meta.

<…> Also, doesn't it make sense for people to have a chance to correct their errors?
Some people do get a chance, based on their net contribution to the forum (or so): [ BAN APPEAL]UPDATE: Total table + Ban status (Need feedback from Global mods), - not up-to-date.

<...>
No transfer of anything. Simply use this thread to lay out your arguments to oppose the ban, or why it's wrong. Perhaps start by providing the id of the banned account.

I've yet to receive any advice on how to go about appealing my ban. Is it allowed to transfer any of my merit or status from my banned account to a new account? I put years of work and it makes no sense for my to lose all my progress for a simple mistake. There must be a way to contact an admin for a transfer or something to work. I can't accept that all this is lost over nothing. If this account can be reinstated with the stats of my previous account than I can drop the whole appeal process and move on

What is your account's name? A simple mistake?

Tell me: did you get warned for any previous rule-breaking activity, or was this immediate?
Did you plagiarize content, or did you instead break some other rule?

Did you buy the account?
And no, you won't transfer anything to a new account. This has to be a troll, right?

yes, it is a little bit dissapointing seeing this kind of excuse using a brand new account to appeal in this section which is the right section to appeal with in terms of ban. How come a brandnew account know this section? OP should start to scan posts on beginners and help.

Probably OP has other account and coward of being tag as an alt account and getting ban also. This excuse my brother, my friend and my mother will not work here.

Anyway, OP still had been asking politely regarding on harsh punishment and the answer is clear and that is to help the forum to minimize the copy and paste type of post. In this way permban would be helpful removing users like them meaning removing copy and paste posts.

I see, I will go through with the ban appeal and am confident the account will be re-instated. It should be a simple matter.

No I am not trolling. I am seriously considering quitting this forum if the appeal does not go through. It makes no sense at all. Yeah there were warnings, no I did not buy my account. Thatss why it hurts so much it's because I spent too much time on it. I am not trolling, maybe you are? I don't see the need to post my account ID, you will just attack me on there instead, and I dont see a reason to state the ban reason as it's private information. Please stay helpful with the replies.

Is this supposed to be your appeal? It's looking more like you trying to swindle your way out of the situation via a number of bad excuses and complaints rather than an actual appeal.

It makes no sense at all. Yeah there were warnings, no I did not buy my account.
Warnings for what? Insubstantial post quality? If this is true, then your account was most likely banned for spam. You had four tries to get it right: how bad were your posts? I rarely see anyone getting banned for spam, so you must be at the bottom of the barrel despite your "years of work".

I don't see the need to post my account ID, you will just attack me on there instead, and I dont see a reason to state the ban reason as it's private information.
You need to understand what is happening right now. Some random account shows up in Meta, says their friend is banned, backpedals to say "no it's actually me", and then refuses to share any information regarding the ban. Keep rolling those boulders, Sisyphus. You may well reach the summit of ignorance yet.

You might be not trolling but you are a liar. Cheesy

What makes you think that I'm pretending to be someone else? I'm just asking for a friend that told me that he doesn't know why he got banned.

And obviously lying is not the best way to start a ban appeal.
Besides, there is nothing that you can really hide, you will either have to come up with a new username that is not you and ask for your friend account to get unbanned, again  Cheesy, or you will have to take that privately with the admin and if you manage to get that 0.001% chance it, your unban will still be caught by the logs and everyone curious enough will know your old account.

Also, one thing that might help you with your ban appeal would be sincerity, and you certainly lack it.

Answer the question of what's the account been banned and tell your friend to appeal here that's all you need here if what you really need is appealing for it. I don't buy you just made a simple mistake if you have been permanently banned, that's not understandable at all.

Ban evasion, plagiarism, continues spamming that's not simple I think. Hide it then you'll have no chance to revived the account of your own account (ooopsss!, Wait, what?), just a hunch. Sorry but your replies are more like it's yours.

Nope, with permanent ban moderators can get rid of spammers on this forum, do you even know or understand how many damages spamming can do? Many don't follow rules on this forum and they go around creating shit posts on the forum

I am seriously considering quitting this forum if the appeal does not go through.

You've been fired, quitting is quite redundant now. You can't post with any other accounts when one of your accounts is banned. You can still read the forum. I don't think anyone will care if you quit reading.

To have a better chance with your appeal you should take your time to read forum rules pinned at the top of this board.
