Hello!
I have recently opened my 2011 MAC and I have a 2013 version of bit coin on it.
I have tried to upgrade the bit coin version, however, it says I must have a later version of the MAC OS. I currently have OS X 10.9.5 and I am unable to update the OS, according to the APP store and online information.
The errors I am receiving when opening bit coin are: Urgent, Alert key compromised, upgrade required.  Then my home page/wallet screen says Wallet, out of sync, Recent transactions, out of sync.  It has a blue bar at the bottom that says 'synchronizing with network' (catching up, last received block was generated 2073 days) - 43.74% complete.  After this is open for a while, it will produce error: Failed to write undo data and I must click ok and it closes out of bit coin
Is there anything I can do to upgrade my bit coin wallet, without the ability to update my MAC OS?
I am not sure if I have any bit coin but remember looking into this back in 2013.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

From the year, it looks like you're running bitcoin Qt 0.8.x. Newer versions of bitcoin core require OS X 10.10 or higher. But if you think there are still bitcoins inside your wallet, you can install the latest bitcoin core on a newer computer and import your seed phrase in it. You shouldn't use your current version of bitcoin core anymore.

The reason you get the message "Urgent, Alert key compromised, upgrade required." is because the developers found vulnerabilities in the alert system, so they pushed a final alert with that message and published the alert key. An extremely small percentage of nodes are running vulnerable versions of bitcoin core such as yours.

The best solution for you will be to copy the wallet.dat from your old mac and install a new core version on
a newer mac or pc and synch (that takes a while, because the blockchain is as the time of writing ~269 GB big).
Then copy your wallet.dat to it and open it in bitcoin-qt.

If you can open the bitcoin core wallet you can try to dump private keys by going to console and then use Electrum to import those keys.

You can download Electrum compatible with your OS from this link below.

You can also follow this guide below on how to transfer wallet from Bitcoin-QT to Electrum wallet below.

Let's hope that you know the passphrase or it doesn't have any password.

oh wow, thank you.  I did not know you could transfer them/it.  I don't suppose you have any resources that explain those steps of copying and then syncing after installing on a new computer do you?

You can follow this guide below to back up and get the wallet file.

After you back up the wallet.dat you can import it to a new wallet on another pc(Windows/macOS)

For directory path, you can delete the wallet.dat generated from your new wallet and replace it with the old copy of your wallet.dat
For other OS wallet folder location, if you are going to import the wallet.dat file on windows it must be on %APPDATA%\Bitcoin
or Check the other data directory from here https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory

After you replace it with your old wallet restart the Bitcoin core wallet and should be sync normally with your old wallet.

If there's no extra PC better follow my suggestion above because the version of your macOS is compatible with the Electrum wallet.
