Ah, Twitter is at it again.. Same thing happened on YT - they somehow managed to get inside some verified channels and used them to create fake giveaways. First and foremost, just remember nobody's giving you free money for nothing. If you see offers that are too good to be true, they really are so just don't bother with them. Giveaways don't ask you for money (unless there's an entry price).

Exactly and the most of them most times just post something that you have to invest some money or coins and you get back the double or more ! Sadly a lot of people fall into this trab and sendng the money. As 20kevin20 has written nobody is giving you something for free the most times.

The moment I saw Elon Musk's twit, I knew there's something wrong already. Simple explanation, yeah it's not hard to believe that he can double the money you will give but why there's a sudden show of interest to btc ? Where in the first place he doesn't even show a strong support to it before.
But oh boy! This is quite alarming because they are not just a common Twitter accounts, they are popular and can be effectively use for scamming. I hope the authority will act fast since not everyone of us are aware of this news.

Holy sh*t, that's crazy. You can include Jeff Bezos, Apple, Gemini, Bitfinex, Cash App... I can see a lot of people falling for those. Someone probably found a major security issue on Twitter. No way all of those people fell for a phishing scam, malware, or some other 'regular' stuff. Twitter responded and deleted the tweets: We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter. We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly. https://twitter.com/TwitterSupport/status/1283518038445223936

Nothing in life that there is no risk taking, probably everyone should be careful when it comes to online transactions, verification and so on. Hackers ain't tried and they ain't sleeping with two eyes closed so it's best to not sleep with both eyes closed.

Yes you are right on that , and you should be checking always when doing the transactions 2 or 3 times before push the send button.

Jeez, seems like most of the major crypto handle has been compromised. How come they did it? Another big scam coming soon. The strange thing is realy that people fall into this.
Not everyone falls for this. Whatever the case is, even from a verified source, we have common sense of verifying by ourselves while others just trust the words and when it comes from an authentic handle, they are sure as hell that they gonna get the amount.

It is unfortunate that many popular Twitter accounts have been hacked and used to scam cryptocurrency. I hope it will be possible to recover all the hacked accounts very soon but as opposed to the reason for frustration is that if any kind of information is given from the hacked accounts for some time then people will be afraid to trust news update. It is very sad if any of them have been harmed.

That's true, it is a trending topic as of now, these twitter accounts are so big, and is owned by familiar person and groups, hoping that it wouldn't cause bad to the crypto community. Those accounts are important and I followed those accounts because it finds so useful and helpful for me especially with the news that they posted. Yhis should be fixed, I think the hackers will ask for money for the return of the accounts, that is the common things that the hackers do whenever they hacked the account of a popular person. Those accounts are important so hey will give what hackers want.

Looks like some apps with API key on Twitter are the culprit of this attack. As there's no way to tell which apps are causing problems, might be better to revoke all apps access to your Twitter account for now.

Yeah, they used many known accounts to post scam giveaways for 2-3 hours and what Twitter did was to just delete these giveaway tweets at first but obviously that wasn't a good solution so after 3 hours or so they decided to make verified accounts unable to tweet for a while so that they can come up with a solution, but I think hackers had twitter as a whole in their hands and they had access to all accounts so it wasn't users fault at all. Take a look at this one

That was the first thing I saw in my Twitter notifications this morning. That the account of Binance was hacked. I thought it was the only account that was hacked but when I read the list in the op, turns out my thought was wrong. There were so many hacked accounts and I've been following most of them. <... >
But oh boy! This is quite alarming because they are not just a common Twitter accounts, they are popular and can be effectively use for scamming. I hope the authority will act fast since not everyone of us are aware of this news.
It is indeed alarming. For someone who won't read between the lines and suspect for a moment will surely become a victim. Good thing I'm not a fan of giveaways but for those who are, they should be very careful now. "Think before you click" guys. Let's all stay safe from this kind of scheme.

It is a one sided game if they would give in. I mean, if that's the case then they don't need to give money, they could take those accounts down from their server either way. It is still unclear if this is an inside job or if somebody did his way in without employee's aid or whatever. Anyway, what must be fixed is getting rid of someone's unauthorize access from their server. I feel bad for those users who deposit believing they would get something back .

The (additional) sad component is the derived association between "scam" and "Bitcoin", despite the focus being on "Twatter". The perspective from an outsider reading/listening to the media will likely unfortunately likely focus on that association, and not solely on the core elements (hacked platform and gullible people).
I heard the news on the radio this morning (regular news broadcast), and the information derivate was interesting: You sent 1k BTC and they sent you back an alleged amount of 2k BTCs …
