Hi Everyone!

As some of you might know, Twitter was hacked earlier today. I wrote up a brief article on the hack as a starting point. But, I would like to have a discussion on the hack.

Twitter has been hacked.

Some questions I have for everyone here:

1. Who do you think is responsible for the hack?
2. Why do you think they chose to execute this old scam for the hack?
3. What do you think will be the impact on Bitcoin and Twitter?

Looking forward to the discussion!

Just watched the news  now and twitter had Disabled some celebrity account like Former president Barrack Obama ,Kanye West and  His wife Kim Kardashian and other popular person  because of this hacking issue.

But knowing who's behind this?I don't know and actually i am looking forward to know the people behind this.

I don't think this kind of short hacking will have any effect on Bitcoin but people will be a bit scared especially those who have very little investment or have very little experience about Bitcoin. This kind of people will be a little scared but I don't see any reason to be afraid Is expected to be. Finally, a review of everything shows that these will not have much of an impact on Bitcoin.

1. This isn't the negligence of twitter account owners but it has to be the management of twitter. I guess someone's going to be fired by its owner.

2. Because those personalities are believable if they apply the known trick.

3. For bitcoin, as usual it will get again the same thought that it had before from no coiners. They'll think again as such as 'again, it's the bitcoin scam and that is the reason why I shouldn't be on that bitcoin thing' sort of like that.

For twitter, they can fix it and just wait for their announcement what actually happen.

There is usually no fault of the hackers here they will hack if they get the personal information of our ID. They may have hacked our ID in case you entered a link to a scam site It also has nothing to do with Bitcoin Even if the Twitter ID is hacked we will be able to reopen it Bitcoin increases in price depending on its demand.

If that is because of personal, then we need to protect our account with the security suggested by twitter. But if that is because of the bug from the twitter server, then twitter needs to solve it. I think that will not impact the bitcoin since bitcoin and twitter are not related, but twitter as a place to promote bitcoin and other things that will impact twitter business. If they can not solve quickly, I think the user on twitter will not use twitter, and they will move to another social media.

I don't see much point in discussing this. Another hacking of any accounts, this often happens.

I don't think so.

Twitter users will remain as twitter users. It doesn't significantly means that just because of that incident, they'll leave the platform. There are die hard twitter users and the same as with other social media platforms.

It was a shocked news when i received, even not only twitter account hacked they're more crypto account hack. However, no twitter user will leave his account for such incidents then all situations will return to normal. I believe that there will be no harmful reason for bitcoin.

this incident is creating a stir in several major news media...
I see that those accounts that have a big influence such as Obama, Musk and others who have been affected by the hacking, this is shocking news and could have made people trust to Twitter decreased.

My thoughts on the effect of the using bitcoin in this; Every advertising is good advertising.

Maybe yes or no. I know some people can get trauma because of losing one account that makes them leave that platform forever. We hope that problem can solve as soon as possible, and there is no problem in the future.

Well, the first thing they did after hacking twitter, was to scam people with that tired old "Bill Gates/Elon Musk" whatever give me your bitcoins and i double them for you garbage. People, foolishly enough, gave the scammer about 14 bitcoins. Such is the level of stupidity.

I would have recognized the scam miles away, just how long has that stupid scam been going on youtube? And yet, people fall for it, proof that the scammers do in fact have reason to invest resources in perpetrating their crime.

You think if i saw the same tired old stupid scam we have known for ages was people impersonating, say, Elon Musk, coming from, oh, the Elon Musk official twitter account, you think i would still fall for it? Hell no. The sole point of give me coin so i can make you more is flawed to begin with.

Ah well enough ranting about human stupidity. What was Einstein quote again?

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -- Albert Einstein

Now why people EVEN use Twitter? There is Mastodon like for ages. Free and Open Source software. OK, this applies to the previous Whatsapp outage as well, its not like its the first time, nor the last one. But the social networks are, unfortunately, social. How to convince the others to switch to the safer alternatives? They need to keep kicked again and again and again and they still won't get it.

Or that Zoom scandal, why, Jitsi has been there for ages too. Oh but we know Zoom, not Jitsi, because Jitsi must be too hard to remember or something.

There is also the fools that don't use good passwords, or that don't use different passwords on each site. Too many sites you say? Duh, use a password manager. Let me explain what a password manager is, since there is some STUPID misconception (like some have about Bitcoin wallets). It is NOT an online site, it is a program (preferably Free and Open Source) you download to your computer, its a database of passwords which happens to be encrypted and protected with its own password as well. You can generate random passwords for all your sites, never repeating one, never using simple easy to guess passwords: all random, all different. Then you copy and paste from it to the web sites, and some even have browser integration (also, browsers are garbage for that, don't let those ever save any passwords on their own).

It is an unfortunate side effect of the era, when most people online lack proper computer knowledge. To be blunt: the fools got online when they made it "too easy" to get online (ie. Smartphones, etc). And that, is precisely what the crooks fish for. Heck i even met clueless bitcoin miners, and we have seen people in this forum lose thousands and even million of dollars doing stupid things, such as keeping all your wallets in a smartphone you use everyday...

What else can i say? This is not the end, sadly. People will keep using Twitter, etc and keep making the stupid mistakes that makes it so easy for crooks to steal their money.

Are you still using Windows to browse things online? Shame on you, don't say we didn't warn you and later come crying a river, you were told to switch to Linux. It may be not perfect security, but its a giant step in the right direction. Securing windows is a pointless excercise in futility, and I'm not even in the mood to explain you why, for the gazillionth time. Get a clue and search for yourself.

1. Who do you think is responsible for the hack?
2. Why do you think they chose to execute this old scam for the hack?
3. What do you think will be the impact on Bitcoin and Twitter?

  • The double your bitcoin scammers.
  • Because that was their goal, this may have been a contract paid in the "dark" net.
  • Not much, really. Bitcoin has nothing to do with it, Twitter may get some flak, but probably be forgotten.

In case you didn't notice, they actually "collected". So was their "investment" (paying the h4xx0rs) worth it? Seems so... Turbulent times ahead, too many fools online.

Wasn't it some insider job? Twitter mentioned no passwords were compromised as some user groups were given elevated access to influential accounts but still, companies can try to cover up.

Possibly insider, possibly social engineering, possibly both. Who can tell? Looks like a drama is unfolding slowly, but like the dramas, things keep repeating themselves again and again and again.

Should you really be trusting your data to these companies in the first place? When will the next "hack" affect you?

I worry that doing across this account one employee twitter to take advantage of all this for the benefit they get money quickly by tricking the donation is an act that makes people believe that because the fraudsters have used account the great figures like barrack Obama, CEO binance and many more well-known account controlled by fraudsters, as usual, they use address bitcoin as a place for them to commit fraud case like this that make bitcoin be discussion and a problem for those who lay about bitcoin.
