I was thinking earlier that since the halving and especially this month so far we've seen tiktok attempting to pump dogecoin doing the rounds on a lot of social media and the recent twitter hack. Coupled with some news sites and social media covering the halving is it possible we could see this interest continue?
I'm not saying we'll see an article every few weeks or something but I can imagine some more stories making it to the mainstream media within the year and some journalists may have turned to looking into things related to cryptocurrency more now...

For as long as there is no reliable data on the matter saying otherwise, I don't think the cryptocurrency coverage in the press has picked up high since the halving. In fact, the halving could not be considered a significant take-off point because it was something that only interests the few, particularly those who are already in the crypto community. To those who have not yet gotten into the community, the halving is completely alien as with crypto.
As far as my observation is concerned, crypto news coverage remains the same, picking up a significant one or two every once in a while and another big one every now and then. The rest are simply articles written for the sake of having something to print.

It definitely looks to me like another round of crypto hype is getting started. Seems quite similar to what we had post 2016 IIRC. I also notice a lot more "Bitcoin predictions" around; it's probably going to go wild once BTC makes a big move. Halving every four years, it's a pretty long timeframe until it happens which means there will obviously always be more focus on Bitcoin around halving than usual..

Yeah I have to say I've made this thread as a bit of something to reflect on hn a year or so time if we have a big move.. Bitcoin got a few mentions in the mainstream both in 2016/2017 and 2012/2013 although I wasn't involved in cryptocurrency in 2013. I think itll definitely be an interesting thing to follow this time around especially since there's quite a bit less controversy in the space and the currency has grounding for not being completely unregulated (in some parts of the world at least). @fundamentals, yeah thsts true but I think some reports like the halving could have found their ways onto people's "for you" pages on browsers. And enough people have said "yeah but every four years the amount of bitcoin you have halves" so the phrase is known if not for a correct reason..

Do we have to be desperate for mainstream media's attention?Bitcoin got plenty of mainstream media coverage during the past years. Some of it where positive, most of it was FUD. I don't think that Bitcoin has to be constantly in the news. This won't bring any high quality investors and newcomers to the BTC community. It will bring mostly ignorant newbies, who see Bitcoin as a "get-rich-quick" tool and nothing more. By the way,I wasn't aware about TikTok attempting to pump dogecoin.I totally don't care about TikTok,even though it's a really trendy app.It would be nice if TikTok accepts cryptocurrenices.

what i see is the same altcoin hype that is being built up again to pump each shitcoin and make a lot of profit. that is simply because bitcoin price is stable once again and we all know that the only time that shitcoins shine is when bitcoin day traders can't make enough profit from its lack of fluctuations. consequently that hype sometimes finds its way to the media with mostly fake news and nonsense. additionally there were multiple cases where bitcoin itself went into the media like the Twitter hack, the halving itself, the COVID drop and the massive recovery afterwards,... but it is no more than any other time in my opinion.

For me there's always that interest from the mainstream media, and I don't think that it is slowing down a bit. It's just the market has nothing to report to because it seems to be just trading sideways. But the moment they hear something new, I'm sure if will be covered again just like the twitter hacks with involves bitcoin. Some mainstream media try to spin the news around by picturing bitcoin as a tool by the criminals.

The big news for this year was the halving, though it did not go with the expectation of the many which they think would result to a bullish market but this year so far, the market is quite stable. I think what really attracts them about crypto this year is the fact that crypto never dump despite of the pandemic, and we have no competition so most likely crypto market was the one that will be hype.

They only broadcast if ever some major price changes or simply they are only interested at price and ignore all developments and important update in crypto world. I hope that the mainstream will evolve in the future and hopefully include a separate spot for all cryptocurrency tech update and upcoming major events. Once this case happened, The perspective on cryptocurrency will be better because everyone will be well oriented about its real used case.

I haven't noticed some bigger or smaller media coverage of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. If the effect of halving was different and the price grew up significantly I think that media would have given better attention to that. Although in the context of pandemic and growth of use of digital technologies I've also spoted some positive articles about cryptocurrencies but that was more on a local level.

They cover it because things happen, not because they are interested in it. If Bitcoin news were generating a huge amounts of clicks, then the media would cover them more. First and foremost, they follow the audience, and as we see, regular people aren't interested in Bitcoin to the point when they would read even the smallest news about it.

The Halving is gone and forgotten... we should move on and find a new strategy to market Bitcoin sales. Find the things that makes Bitcoin better than Fiat cash and centralized Banking payment options and make a short 60 seconds TiKTok video that can go viral. TikTok is the best platform to get to the demographic that will bring change in the future.. age 16 to 21 years. They are also the risk takers and the generation that are tech savvy. DogeCoin is ancient ..... let's go kick some ass... release the Bitcoin army on TikTok.

People all around the world are searching for Bitcoins online in the middle of the night This statement itself states how press coverage have become more realistic and at the same time the negative comments by the media have actually decreased a bit. This was bound to happen . When centralized power fails sooner or later the decentralized network will be recognized for what it is . The Investors are looking for a way out since the stock markets right now might be doing good for the long term investments but for the short term investments I don't think there is anything better than cryptocurrencies right now. Plus large scale media coverage is all about Corona virus and cryptocurrencies is least of their concerns , halving on the other hand did not do anything this time , it's more or less not volatile right now and it's more important than halving drastically increasing the price . https://www.forbes.com/sites/benjaminpirus/2020/02/20/bitcoins-2020-rally-more-sustainable-than-2019-surge/ Sustainability is more important than anything here and even though the media might not give a fair word out , what matters is people are sharing their positive experiences and such . The thing is cryptocurrencies usage depends on how you use them at the end of the day .

I read last year that media (crypto media, not regular media) had been cutting down on staff, but that this wasn't due to the industry shrinking, rather, journalists were actually being more recognized and hired by bigger and more reputable media. It was a good sign of acceptance and recognition of crypto media.
But I think the regular press actually covers Bitcoin much less now unless it hits in a big way like the Twitter hack.

Well, I wouldn't call TikTok mainstream medium. It's a platform which is quite popular with generation Z, but I don't think what happens there has major impact on articles that serious news portals publish. As for the Twitter hack, while it received attention in the media, I don't think this could have any positive impact on Bitcoin because the news itself was pretty bad. So I suppose that for the interest in Bitcoin to persist, there should be some more significant and neutral or positive events. If cryptos receive more attention in the media, but only due to some major hacks, this would probably push Bitcoin's price down.

As far as media coverage goes, if people wanted the news, then definitely they will have to cover it otherwise media crypto related or not will be late. And as we all know that any publicity, be positive or negative is good so sooner or later we will see another surge on news, just like what the Twitter hack in relation to bitcoin.

But I believe those latest twitter hacking will create another dismay for those people who doubts about bitcoin.

Yes but not with good news unless you consider any kind of media coverage is good coverage. It is all hacks and extortion news. I cannot really say that is good for bitcoin. I'd rather prefer to see adoption related news instead.

Really? I think the opposite. As they say, any publicity is good and this is especially true for inanimate objects that you can't blame for any wrongdoings. I believe what we're looking at is another calm before the storm. Look at how the market is usually in bearish panic, then in a state of limbo and enters a bullish FOMO. We were in a state of bearish panic since 2018 and since we first begun to move in a 6-10k channel we've entered this pause between market cycles.
