I believe the hacked happened not in the client side, as the hackers contacted the support of twitter themselves, though, we still have huge personal responsibility over it. How? because even if the hack happened in the support, if we didn't expose too much information, hackers will have minimal info to use to impersonate us.

I just simply made a conclusion when there is someone even a popular person who ask me to send bitcoin in order to I get reward/double my money back I'll deem it as a scam attempt. I never try to make any deposit for this kind, if you see some accusation in this forum you'll see many cases about this stuff and that is enough to me to avoid this thing.

Your first task will be to identify those whose accounts have been hacked. These accounts will be used for hacking. Learn about this as much as possible. Avoid all the tempting offers. Be careful yourself and warn those who have your Acquaintances.
