Deception in the guise of Bitcoin is spreading. The most recent and most extensive case is through hacking of a number of famous celebrity Twitter accounts on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Hackers offer a Bitcoin giveaway from those accounts. So, what are some ways to protect yourself from this mode of crime?

The perpetrators may launch social-based attacks (social engineering) against Twitter employees. Hackers access Twitter's internal systems and devices, and thus successfully tweet the Bitcoin giveaway.
For example the Kanye West account which was also hacked. The famous US musician is "tweeting" he will duplicate the Bitcoin sent to his Bitcoin address. With common logic, it is unlikely that anyone would give free money in the form of Bitcoin, without any veiled intentions.

No one will give you free money, not even Bill Gates. If it sounds too sweet, then it's certainly not true, especially in cyberspace.

It is very true that you shouldn't believe anyone who claims that he/she will double your crypto etc. . Why would anyone want to offer such thing in the end? We have really seen that how stupid were the hackers also that they wanted such thing from people directly. But still there were people who were stupid enough to believe this obvious fraud attempt.

Well anything out of the ordinary is most likely impossible or is a fraud. No one in this current situation, and most especially this pandemic is giving out free Bitcoin. I mean even if I have loads of Bitcoin, I still wouldn’t give it out just like that. And the only way you protect yourself is never get too hyped if someone sends you a message for whatever social platforms you have that says free bitcoin.

It's pretty obvious that these twitter giveaways are scams so I don't know why some people still fall for it. Even if it's from a famous personality, if it requires you to send a specific amount first or ask for the private keys of your wallet then it is guaranteed to be fake. Those giveaways have a ridiculous amount to give so it is really too good to be true to fall for it. Legit giveaways are not that big and if it is, it's divided to many people.

when seeing things like bitcoin or other altcoin giving, ask your friends about this or people in your cryptocurrencies about this, then decide whether you'll join this.
be cautious when links ask your account address, esp, password. but I think the most important thing is to believe that there's no free meals in the world, everyone is interest-oriented.

Yes that topic was just brought up just recently.
It's a lesson for Twitter to fix the vulnerabilities in their site.
Knowing that a simple social engineering would do this big, then I would just close all my accounts there whenever I have the power to.

Those are celebrities were talking about, what more for some ordinary person that just tends to use his/her computer casually?

It is really shocking to see these kind of people who believes in such frauds very easily. It is a very poor tactic that you think of making people believe you by verified accounts. You just directly want their crypto from people to double it etc. and you are proving it clearly that it is fake. I really don't understand how foolish you should be to believe such thing.

You won't fall for it only if you know that it is a scam because most people that are desperate and are newbie when it comes to earning money online so whenever there is someone who presents them the idea of doubling their money, they don't hesitate or doubt because they don't know that it is a scam.

to be honest, maybe if I didn't know from the old discussion about Bitcoin giveaway scams on the internet then I would definitely fall into the trap of giveaway scammers. YouTube, Twitter, and several social media are where they carry out their actions. do not be easy to believe because getting something without hard work really does not exist.

If you see any program, site or person giving you X amount of money on your investments in very short time and without asking you to do any work, then for sure that is a scam. No one on earth gives you free money on investments. Also note that the returns on staking etc are only between 1-20 percent and not 2x-3x.

Again there is no event or people today will give free money instead they are just scamming other people by the scheme of depositing those address to join the event are you really sure that a channel or an event gives 500 BTC to just the people who make a deposit to their address just only 10 dollars? I don't think so this is good to be true. It's better to report those immediately to avoid increasing the number of victims with these scams. Help the community to spread out the fake news about this to prevent getting scam.

It's a Bitcoin giveaway then why should they ask you to send money to their BTC address? that's absurd. Scammers kept on doing the same thing simply because there are people who still believe and fall into it which is why reporting/taking down such fraudulent bitcoin giveaways is the best solution for everyone. Remember this, there's no such thing as free bitcoin so always be logical and doubt everything you see on the internet.
