Announcing the love child of Twitter + Bitcoin...  FeedZeBirds!

[OPEN BETA]  -  FeedZeBirds.com

FeedZeBirds is an advertising platform which leverages the instant payments afforded by Bitcoin and the social media networking power of Twitter.

Using your already-existing Twitter account, you simply log in (no new account needed), and retweet any of the available sponsored messages. The site automatically calculates your followers and the sponsor's CPM budget and pays you Bitcoins instantly.

Truly revolutionary advertising made possible only by Bitcoin.

- Works anywhere in the world
- No personal or financial info needed
- Instant, automated payments
- Payout to your Bitcoin address or your email address[/li]
- Users have full control - never an automated tweet you don't approve of
- Advertisers have full control - set a budget and the price you'll pay per 1,000 Twitter followers who see your ad (CPM)[/li]
Advertisers - this is a great new way to get your message out and pay solely in Bitcoin. It's fast, you set your own CPM figures, and then users can choose to retweet your message if the reward is worth it for them.

Spam accounts are blocked and reported to Twitter - any funds owed to spam accounts will instead be donated to charity (or maybe the Bitcoin Dev Team =)

We also have a mechanism to enable donations for a campaign, so charities or community groups can fund a message - supporters can donate at any time to keep the campaign running.

The site is fully-functional, but we expect some bugs in this open beta. Please let us know what you find, and also if you find anything confusing we need to know! We intend this to help advocate Bitcoin to the masses beyond Bitcoin-land. Sponsored Tweets is a growing industry (see SponsoredTweets.com) - Kim Kardashian makes five figures on every tweet (a good sign of society's demise, to be sure). Maybe we'll see if she wants to join us.

All pretty except the part about funds owed to spam accounts being donated.
Give it back to advertisers, that's how real advertising agencies do it. The fact that the advertiser didn't get what he paid for, yet you keep his money to donate to someone else is fishy as hell.

Huh?
Isn't your entire business model built around twitter accounts spamming ads?

That's not a bad suggestion, we'll consider if it would be reasonable to implement. Thank you for the idea.

Not at all. There is a big difference between a legitimate Twitter user who sends periodic sponsored tweets to his followers, and a "spam" account that has fake followers.  We screen the latter group out.

How and when a legitimate user sends a retweet is up to him - and if he does it too often, or with completely irrelevant ads, he's likely to lose his followers, so there's a nice feedback mechanism to keep people from going crazy. If this mechanism is not sufficient, we may implement a limit of retweets per day (2 or 5 or 10 or something).

Our business model fails if spam accounts get through and become widespread - so we keep a close on that.

I tried out this service and found that it worked great, it was easy to get started and to get the re-tweets working. The only thing I haven't tested yet is the payout system which I will try later on when I have managed to add up enough to cash out. To bad that there's only a hand full of messages that you can re-tweet

evoorhees, firstly I stopped reading after second paragraph with a feeling like "oh, yet another tool for spammers". Then I had a discussion on the conference and one of my friend explained me the basic idea (exactly what's on the end on your initial post ;-) ) and I changed my mind. Yes, this is really pretty cool, I especially like that self-balancing mechanism which prevents retweeters to spam bullshits, because otherwise people will stop following them.

I'm not interested in FZB because of profit, but I think I'll still retweet something if I'll see that information useful, because I feel that Bitcoin community is lacking some information about new services. I personally didn't know about a lot of cool projects before the conference (and my misunderstanding of the FZB idea is pretty good example).

Just one "feature request". Can you remove that "#Retweet4Bitcoin #FeedZeBirds ChkStatus@ FeedZeBirds.com/l86gh" on the end of every message? Or maybe leave just a "#FeedZeBirds". Not only because long text is cutting message length a lot, but I feel people can be much more critical about that particular retweet when they'll feel that it is "for profit". It can hurt not only the retweeter, but even the message credibility itself. For now I'll probably just pick the interesting tweets and will post them by myself.

Btw is there any "recommended minimal price" for 1000 retweets? I have no idea what price can motivate some people to retweet some of my ad. Some stats or at least recommendation would be good, like Google ads are providing :-).

Hi Slush,

Yeah, the boilerplate is too long currently and we plan to shorten it a bit as we progress. It is a bit long right now as we're using it partly to educate people about the tweets as they see them. When the userbase grows, we'll be able to shorten it.

As you say, users should only tweet those messages that their followers won't mind. Any user who spams his followers will not be able to spam them for long... because they'll leave.

At this point, we're not going to assume what price will motivate retweets... but certainly a higher CPM will get your ad distributed faster and (perhaps) to higher quality viewers (because the more spammy accounts will retweet anything, but more authentic accounts will be more selective).

We do have little counter on the Create Campaign page which tells you what CPM number is needed to get your ad on the front page. The ads are ordered by CPM, so prominence will be given to the better CPMs.

When the site's been running a while we'll collect some data and offer some cool statistical info for advertisers.

Can you explain the discrepancy between "Total Earned", "Earnings" and the amount that has been sent to my address?

Total Earned = All the btc paid to you in the lifetime of your account
Earnings = Same as above (maybe we should make the term the same)

Minimum payout is 0.01 btc... so if you tweet 1btc of ads, and then another one for .005, the amount sent to your address would only be 1btc, with the rest held until you pass the .01 threshold again.

Keep the questions coming if you have them =)

Then why is Total Earned significantly different than Earnings, which is also significantly different than what has been paid to my address?

Total Earned: 0.0909315
Earnings: 0.2389563

Feature request: Can I flag a campaign as undesirable, and block it temporarily from the list of available campaigns that I see (not affecting the visibility of other users)? It would become automatically unblocked if the CPM changed. It would also be a nice feature for advertisers to see how many users have blocked which campaigns. Might be a lot to code, but I think it would be useful for a variety of reasons.

Also, would be nice to remove campaigns I've already RT'd from the main page so that I only see new ones.

Thanks for the responses and the interesting service!
