Thought I'd give a heads up. I had a well used handle on this forum, soy. It was stolen and used to tout a Mexican site selling bitcoin futures. I got no satisfaction trying to get it back and it had value.
I pay taxes on my bitcoin. I file every year accurately.
The next tax return will include a note describing the theft of my handle soy soy@ bitcointalk.org. I suggest the bitcointalk administrators make sure they have the documentation and trail of sales of that name and that of soy39 here.
I lost a substantial amount of bitcoin, 11.82627776 btc, worth over $118,000.00 today, lost on MtGox years ago, stolen. Just saying.
soy, or soy39 or angrysoy.

It looks like the profile was already been banned when it was in the hands of the hacker or account thief. I am just wondering why you didn't take it seriously to recover your stolen account back then.

I tried but couldn't find what the admin was asking for I think.
Reminds me of my early mining. Taking btc at .00000001 from the pools. I could be wrong, time hasn't treated my recall skills well. Later I found a block. Trying to specify my dealings with MtGox I found I was not given all I needed by MtGox. I did however work it out working backwards. Wish I had been among the "in" crowd who bailed when he was chatting about how he could do something like juice the value then demonstrated that he could.
I was annoyed my good name "soy" was being used to draw traders to the Mexican site doing futures. Futures are a scam. Publicity and rumor mongering are the gods. I sometimes wonder if Forbes is into bitcoin futures somewhere.
I think it was clear I made the posts as soy describing my mining and mods.

I guess I'm just not seeing the point here.
The forum has no idea or necessity to document peoples accounts being sold or the value of the transaction. They can assume at best and even then it could be suggested someone just moved.
Next when were you hacked?? Sounds like years have gone by and now it's a issue... well i guess non-issue because you aren't trying to get the account back.

Saying that 11 btc is worth over 100k is not valid. If you say it is, than a pizza would be worth billions
Or you know that set of chrome rims you bought for 5500 BTC way back than.
You would have traded that 11 btc a million times over

It would depend on the person's finances. If they were well off, they could have sat on that 11 btc. If a person stole 1,000 BTC from a person five years ago, they owe that person 1,000 BTC today, would you agree?

But if the option was to get either 0 of your btc, or the value of the btc at the time in usd. I would pick the latter but I think everyone would.

OK. What if you could get thirty cents on the dollar per coin, or twenty cents on the dollar and the thief gets punished?

It looks like you want to repeat the history of theft that happened to you in 2018. it will be useless. The answer for you has already been answered here. This guy's real account was hacked, he claims that he owns this -soy, and might want to charge the person who handles it.
If that is really your account, you must have a proof. Judging on the history of soy, it was a miner.Your oldest sent feedback was from 2013, and I think CanaryInTheMine can prove it.
Rest assured that the hacked account will be given red trust once you proved that it was yours. But you only provide evidence of this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2100719.msg43793149#msg43793149, this is not enough evidence. You should really follow this one path: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5089777.0, at that time, why now you get up again. Anyway @soy, it's been blocked, so what do you expect again.

What does your stolen forum account have to do with your tax return? If a person stole 1,000 BTC from a person five years ago, they owe that person 1,000 BTC today, would you agree? I think the law disagrees, the damage is measured in local currency at the time of the theft. Kinda like how MtGox has to pay back the fiat-amount to it's clients, while the BTC amount they have is worth a lot more by now. I don't agree with it though, it's like the perfect crime: steal 1000 BTC now, wait until it's worth 10 times more, then pay back $10 million, and keep $90 million for yourself.

What does your stolen forum account have to do with your tax return?
What comes to my mind is that the OP may want to show the loss of the account as some kind of tax relief - but how to determine how much his account is actually worth? He write this sentence : I got no satisfaction trying to get it back and it had value.
At least it seems so to me, though I may be completely wrong.

What does your stolen forum account have to do with your tax return?
I mentioned my gout and erectile dysfunction on my tax return. They sent a note back saying they were very sorry to hear it and reduced my rate by 50%, plus threw in a bit of generic Cialis. If you don't ask you don't get.

Yeah, but what if, for example, you stole $10M worth of Bitconnect? It's really one or the other. Neither choice is great and there is always an exception that will land you in a sticky situation: I guess we're just not smart enough to come to a satisfactory result that will satiate all people. If you don't ask you don't get. I just tell them that I'm allergic to bureaucracy.
