Statue of limitations law could be the reason for the wait.

The crime was done in 2016 it is 2020.

They may simply cash it in a country that says the time limit is past.
I never think of this options for this scammers, thanks. But what country though that they can cash it out?  And they can't simply move it without anyone noticing in since obviously there are a lot of trackers and everything is written in blockchain.

And BTC-e is gone, notoriously for allowing these criminals to mix and launder their bitcoins thru their exchanges.

I'll be surprised if they don't mix it before taking it to some exchange wallet.

Way back 2016, there's really a low awareness of bitcoin users to mixers. I'm not saying that there's no mixers available, but perhaps, there's a chance that these trasactions and hacks didn't underwent a mixer. Meaning, they are still trackable, this just clears the fact that bitcoin isn't a tool to money laundering.

Just like what the other have said, unless these people didn't use exchange to withdraw funds such as regulated exchange: binance (today), they can still not be identified. As far as I know, exchanges before are mostly unregulated meaning, you don'tneed to conduct KYC verification.

Lots of options for them to hide, mixer is one of them. They have learned from past hacks as well specially those that are being traced because they just sent it to an exchange. And mixers is not that bad, it is being used to hide our privacy, but the caveat is that criminals can also used it to hide their footprints.

So glad that we have a platform like this to automatically track these scammers.

Saves people having to check every day whether or not their stolen funds have been moved by the perp.

However, some of these larger movements tend to be taken out of context by noobs, who seemingly thing that a large Bitcoin movements almost certainly equals a dump, whereas a large stablecoin movements equals a pump.

The move coincides when the price of bitcoin is picking up, obviously, these criminals wanted to enjoy their loot and could be cashing it out anytime soon.
I wonder how they are going to withdraw the funds, since the coins are market the hackers cannot cash out using normal exchanges as every exchanges forces you to verify your accounts and there is nothing hiding behind a proxy unless these hacks are done as an exchange as a front business and they will be cashing out through that, what ever it may it is interesting to see how long they can move the coins and not get detected.

They can put the coins through a mixer like coinmixer.com like multiple times, it could enable them to wash the coins clean enough.

They don't have to mix it, much better if they don't so that if they trade it to exchanges like Binance, those funds will be recovered and will be freezed.
After holding for a years, I believe those hackers knows how to remain anonymous and will not make the big mistake of not mixing the bitcoin, or else the hacked bitcoin will finally recover. Well, the incident was on 2016 and the big bull was 2017, I also wonder why those hackers didn’t sold those bitcoin as the peak price of bitcoin.

Probably the hackers don't sell hacked bitcoin from bitfinex as they think that if they sell to any exchange, they will be traced. They can sell person to person in their local country. Hacking is s heinous task, Bitfinex didn't clearly say whether they recovered btc or not.

This is probably the case, although we may also wonder why hackers did not try to cash stolen coins when BTC reached a value of $20k at the end of 2017? Maybe they were just waiting for the whole thing to be forgotten a bit, but they forget that every transaction in the BTC network is completely public - and I'm just sorry that their addresses weren't blacklisted on all crypto exchanges and mixers. Of course, that wouldn't stop them from selling them anyway - but it would certainly make the whole operation more difficult for them.

unfortunately, there are no traes of the destination of where the tokens are taken to interms of either exchangers or an identified swap paltform. it is quite unfirtunate but then it happens to be under the design of anonymity. although it was not designed for this purpose but then we can not deny the existence of the function.

If you really want to watch the coins here is the address 3PV66U7DGmxPQXG9NvvLRdwmrXNkgqcLQS 473 bitcoin is held.

The hackers will be trying to mix the coins after moving to different addresses just to confuse anyone monitoring the trail and once it goes through any mixers then they will feel the heat as their service will be under surveillance by everyone.

Hard to keep track. If it goes to a mixer its already very difficult to follow. It gets confusing already with just the pool of addresses which was mixer's first concept and now its more complicated. I think the hacker can even get away with Swap platform and when altcoin comes to his wallet, its all clean when it goes to an exchange.

It would be challenging for cyber crimes companies, I hope someone will hire this Uppsala Security who claims to be expert in cybersecurity and tracking cryptocurrency cyber crimes.

For better understanding, are you saying there are some countries which will not penalize law breaker, scammers etc if the offense was dine years ago?

Not really like to crush the market with these figures when becomes a fiat but yes it can affect to the market. But news like this should not be an indicator that will dictate the market. I have seen more news like this before but it never did made any bitcoin crash intead it gets hype. So basically no one really knows what will happen next even with these bad news. This is one of the good thing that I have observe during those days of having bad news in regards to bitcoin market.

Of course they probably will. They're not dumb not to use btc mixer address. Those hackers surely waited this bull run for sure and then profiting from this market bull. However, it is also possible that they have converted it right away into fiat after hacking. Afterall, they need physical money to survive and that issue was years passed already.

This might be an expereinced hacker. Four years in a role before any movent is an indication that it will get mixed before any attempt of selling. someone or a group of people like this will never sell on a centralized exchange. I am looking towards when Binance hack will begin to move, just hanging there.

That's right, financial crime laws vary from country to country - and if a certain number of years pass after such a crime is committed, such a person or persons can no longer be tried for that crime. It doesn’t sound fair, but it’s unfortunately a reality. In all civilized countries, murder or war crime has no statute of limitations, but in most of these countries online scams of any type are not something that is severely punished.

Who wants to know more -> Statute of limitations

unfortunately, there are no traces of the destination of where the tokens are taken to in terms of either exchangers or an identified swap platform.

The possibilities that they'll be using mixers in order to make it clean
once they've decided to cash it up.
Hackers always manage to find ways to make sure that they will be
able go out clean without any traces.

it is quite unfortunate but then it happens to be under the design of anonymity.

They've just use it in illegal ways but most of us are enjoying this
aside from those who got scammed.

although it was not designed for this purpose but then we can not deny the existence of the function.

There's always the other side, the only thing is continue to learn
and make sure to advance your
knowledge in every aspects of this system so you'll be able to
secure yourself in any means of hacking.

Does it mean that the thief moved the whole coins into only one wallet? Is it? It is so crucial and also suspicious, isn't it? If they are the real thief, they should not do that thing because everybody can then check the transactions. They can now where the transaction is ended. That is why they can be trapped, chased, or even arrested because of that. Do they really act that kind of harmful? Well, it may be strange. but if the transaction is really from the thieves although it was from several years ago, it should be fixed and found for a better situation.
