Hello, Can someone explain how is it possible to create custom Bitcoin addresses like these? 1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxy1kmdGr 1See1xxxx1memo1xxxxxxxxxxxxxBuhPF 1fuLL1xxxx1power1xxxxxxxxxxzatvCK I know about creating vanity addresses but as I understood so far, one is limited in generating the first few characters only. As you progress further you would need huge computational power to generate vanity addresses with many custom characters. Otherwise anyone would just generate existing addresses and claim the funds. Even here where they use a mining pool the maximum is 11 characters for a vanity address. And that for an enormous fee! https://vanitypool.appspot.com/Some of the above addresses found on the Blockchain have more than 28+ CUSTOM characters. And they seem to work since they receive BTC without any issues. How is this possible?

Well, you already answer your own question, yes, to generated those vanity addresses you need a lot of computing power. And maybe to understand it more clearly, you can read @1miau post here: [Guide] How to create your customized Bitcoin-Address (vanitygen) – step by step.And regardless if you are using a vanity address or not, you should learn how to protect your private keys, otherwise it will be useless in the end.

Some of the above addresses found on the Blockchain have more than 28+ CUSTOM characters. And they seem to work since they receive BTC without any issues.
How is this possible?
Those addresses might be able to receive funds but it's unlikely anybody has the private keys. Here is an example of an address with a long custom string https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE. It has received over 13 BTC which have never been spent.

I posted a tutorial a while ago on how to make these here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90982.msg46771759#msg46771759but you wont have the private key so they cant be used except to burn your coin. edit: These are valid Bitcoin addresses but you can only send to them. You can't spend the coins in those addresses since you wont have the private key.

Easy for him with limited characters. You may have missed the point of OP, he said he is familiar with vanity addresses although this addresses are some kind of vanity address. Check thr above reply. LoyceV creates address which you can use for both purpose sending anf receiving although it's never a good idea to use such vanity address generated by others.

it is possible because it is not created through the conventional way and in other words it does not have a private key. normally to create an address or a vanity address you have to select a private key then compute its public key and hash of the public key and then encode that hash using the address encoding method using base58 with a checksum. but an address is still a string that you can create too. so another way of creating an address is without a private key (so you can never spend from it and any coins sent there is lost forever). and that is to start by putting any characters from the base58 set after "1" like this example you posted which uses letter "x" then try decoding it without checking its checksum. now you have the 20 byte hash. use that to compute the address. 1AddressToBurnThemALLxxxxxxxxxxxx base58 0001d2534cb9cdca30b168f9230ec9c5f6c31051c0ce401c11 base16 0001d2534cb9cdca30b168f9230ec9c5f6c31051c0 drop checksum 20439f3b compute checksum 1AddressToBurnThemALLxxxxxxtX2JMg encode

Interestingly enough, there are many unspendable addressees like these on the Blockchain. Perhaps so much lost BTC could have been used for better purposes. Our world is not exactly filled with happiness in every corner. But that could be the subject of another discussion.

Those ones with an extremely long custom address are generated using a vanity generator. But the ones you mentioned would be practically impossible to generate in this way.
Instead, they are almost certainly designed to be burn addresses. People send their coins there to burn them since we can be pretty sure that nobody has the private key that controls the address.
These addresses don't actually need to be generated. Any valid address already exists, so you can just send coins to any variation of valid addresses and it will end up in the right place.

So, now you know you know you can make address with vanity gen, while more chars then addy will take longer to be generated. Yesterday i installed vanity to make some paper wallets and had a problem running it on ubuntu, and got fixed installing this dependency: sudo apt-get install libssl1.0-dev
So, god luck making your own addies and i hope you can get a long one like mine

There's no rule that says that you can only search for the first characters of an address - you can do vanity search for any of the character indexes of an address. What you are limited to is the number of characters - right now it's around 5-6 characters, and if the number of non-random characters is higher, than it's a sign that you're looking at the so-called Bitcoin burner address.

Generating vanity addresses
Let’s look at the pattern "1Kids" as a number and see how frequently we might find this pattern in a bitcoin address (see The frequency of a vanity pattern (1KidsCharity) and average search time on a desktop PC). An average desktop computer PC, without any specialized hardware, can search approximately 100,000 keys per second.

As you can see, Eugenia won’t be creating the vanity address "1KidsCharity" anytime soon, even if she had access to several thousand computers. Each additional character increases the difficulty by a factor of 58. Patterns with more than seven characters are usually found by specialized hardware, such as custom-built desktops with multiple GPUs. These are often repurposed bitcoin mining "rigs" that are no longer profitable for bitcoin mining but can be used to find vanity addresses. Vanity searches on GPU systems are many orders of magnitude faster than on a general-purpose CPU.
Another way to find a vanity address is to outsource the work to a pool of vanity miners, such as the pool at Vanity Pool. A pool is a service that allows those with GPU hardware to earn bitcoin searching for vanity addresses for others. For a small payment (0.01 bitcoin or approximately $5 at the time of this writing), Eugenia can outsource the search for a seven-character pattern vanity address and get results in a few hours instead of having to run a CPU search for months.
