Lowest gas lmit I can use with ethereum?

I'm trying to send some funds out of a smart contract and I'm not sure how gas limiting works but I was quoted $7 for a transaction within 10 minutes (at 36 GWEI).

I've set it to 6 GWEI to see if it'll confirm, would this be enough for a confirmation in around 12 hours or so?

I've sent with eth recently (few weeks back) and the fees were much less - it's not urgent I get the funds out I just wanted to move them somewhere else.

Just after making this thread I realised that it was available on etherscan but I made a mistake with the transaction so had to double spend anyway...
