But the addresses can be tagged on popular block explorer by you or the wallet owner so that you would easily recognize who the wallet belongs to. I just want to elaborated your question, I think you want to know what wallet or platform wallet (like metamask or myetherwallet) user use seeing from the eth address, I don't think so, different when the user use exchange wallet when you use etherscan will be displayed the exchange name.

Technically speaking, it's not possible because ETH was anonymous which didn't require any personal info in able to create a wallet address so you have zero chance to get the name of the Ethereum wallet user. Unless you can track the address transaction outside the blockchain like when send his fund to an exchange which you can ask help for exchange to track user identity.

I think it's impossible to find out who owns the wallet from their public address unless the person themselves has declared it somewhere in the public domain. Also the type of wallet is also not recognisable I think.

To get a Ethereum wallet, you should choose a good and trusted wallet which provide a full control of your wallet. Because you are going to hold your savings on it. This is possible only if the user register their address to the ens. If not then it will still return the usual Ethereum address format.

Only merchant or those who need to publicly publish their address use this, but for privacy oriented individual or the average joe, most of them don't use it.

I didn't mean your post is wrong, nor did I contradict myself. If Op was recently hacked or scammed, he can't get any useful information on the hackers address from an exchange, as his stolen funds is nothing near a high profile crime, see the example I gave initially. I used impossible, rather than improbable to dissuade OP and other newbies who think it's possible to recover their funds, but go on to fall for a second scam in the process of recovery, as we've seen on numerous occasions.

You mean like walletexplorer.com of BTC?   It identifies what kind of BTC wallet the users use when you search it on walletexplorer.com.
I haven't have any idea what identifies ETH wallet when you search ETH address. I hope someone also deveops this kind of project so its going to be easy to track users not just the ethplorer and ethscan.

LOL, so you refer Binance (centralized exchanges) as a wallet? You're contradict yourself, you don't have a full control of your coins on centralized exchanges. After they got hacked and can't recover their loss, frozen/freeze your coins or ban your account... you don't have access to your coins again.  Not your keys, not your coins, it's better to use DEX (e.g. Uniswap)

yes, it's clear that just looking at the address doesn't tell us who owns the wallet. for example when we get a token distribution from a project, we don't know who sent it. but if it is the token from the bounty that we are participating in, then the team will send it to us.
