When I tried to access archive.is through Brave this message appeared asking me to upgrade my browser or switch to another one. I was wondering why they suddenly stopped supporting it and found an answer in their blog https://blog.archive.today/

Please provide all the details about how Brave allegedly scammed your friend, because it doesn't make sense. They are about as far as being a domain registrar as is possible. If they did, or someone at Brave scammed your friend, please let us know all about it so we can get him made whole.

Aryanization as it is - stealing about $1500 (voluntary donations of website users) explaining this with discrediting on a national basis

Anonymous asked:

Why are you checking for "supported browser"? You have a simple html form. I'm using Brave browser on mobile which is chromium based, but the "unsupported browser" error shows and I can't get to the form. Seems very unnecessary, just render the page anyways.

Using other browsers prevents people from getting scammed by Brave.

Quote
Anonymous asked:

Any details on this "nationalistic rhetoric"? According to an official post from June, the block was put in place because the company "isolated a high number of fraudulent referrers in specific countries"--namely, the five countries listed in your previous post. I'm not saying Brave is being an honest, upstanding company here--for example, it has failed to add this list of countries to the Terms of Service, over a month after the original post--but that doesn't sound very "nationalistic" to me.

Isn’t there much difference from “blacks are criminals“ in how particular cases extrapolated to color of skin or even color of passport? Especially when it comes to stealing from them and that motivates to describe the discriminated group as broad as possible.

Quote
Anonymous asked:

Please, at least put a note on the unsupported page why Brave is unsupported again, I thought this was resolved

No, it hardly will be resolved.

it seems that Brave is a scam project by their nature (no wonder looking at their cryptocurrency affiliation). After I managed to transfer the domains to account of my friend, they blocked his account and stole all the tokens using nationalist rhetoric as a cover: they said that they do not pay to Russia, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Ukraine (interesting, it wasn’t a problem before my domains was transferred there. so I feel guilty for destroying my friend’s business).

Blocking a minor browser who blocks half of the world *for profit* seems an adequate counter-sanction. I encourage webmasters (especially from those countries) to block Brave as well to stop spreading that scam.

Thoughts?

Be very wary of relying on JavaScript for security on crypto sites. The site can change the JavaScript at any time unless you take unusual precautions, and browsers are not generally known for their airtight security.

Thoughts! Yes I have.

Archive.is does their works well to protect their customers and from your quote, they claimed Brave as a scam project that I agree.

Brave browser has their shady actitivities Brave browser hijacking links and affiliate codes!. They also forced their users to finish KYC to get BAT and from that they do break their core idea. What a shame!

I just tried open archive.is from Brave Browser and able to access it normally without message that you encountered. Looks like their browser detection have some flaws.

It works on desktop, but it doesn't work on mobile; at least on my side.

Still trying to grasp what happened to the owner of Archive.is though. Quite weird why Brave would scam $1500. While it's still a good amount of money, it's surprising that a company of Brave's size would steal that amount, and also knowing that archive.is is a quite famous website.

Maybe that's the part of it that makes sense because it doesn't... If they have a lot of users with $1000-2000 then just scam them and keep going along pretending there isn't a problem... They're probably more likely to be considered scam if they scam larger amounts imo (also maybe people with more money than that don't trust them).

I still don't see why anyone would trust these browsers with funds/your browsing history - but if you do personal searches off the app then it might be feasible (and don't log on to anything within the app that you can help)...

I got the same 'error message' as well.

Using this version of Brave Desktop on a Mac.

I know that they have admitted about the supposedly referral links issues, but this whole new 'scam' accusations is something new.

We could also make the argument that they would more likely to be considered a scam if they'd scam a lot of people though; And also knowing that Brendan Eich, with quite a big name in the technology sector in general, has a reputation to uphold(no pun intended) though it's already quite damaged.

Idk, I dislike Brave after the fiasco, but things still don't add up imo.

I personally don’t like censorship to take place, and the objective usage of an Archive site is to archive information, and not to take a stand that affects their user base, based on a personal experience as a trigger.

Having said that, I’m not Keen on Brave, but nor am I on all those other browsers that are related to overly exploiting people’s information as a kind of spyware (no blocking going on for this reason is there?).

Anyway, if anyone is looking for a way to bypass the, there’s a guy on this reddit thread that points to a script (on pastebin - you need to press "view entire discussion" to reveal it) that theoretically does it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/i7u8fa/brave_isnt_supported_with_archiveis_anymore/

Disclaimer: I do not use Brave, so I really do not know whether the script works or not.

They were found to be redirecting to their affiliate links on some exchanges and they did corrected it after being pointed out. The graphical illustration about token being frozen seems to be untrue as they explains and they have closed referral from russia which in not just for the user but all users. I'm not a brave fan but they are doing something new, maybe the similar approach to adblock plus but on browser level and with their own blockchain based token and rewarding the viewer as well.

Still trying to grasp what happened to the owner of Archive.is though.
It is not the owner of archive.is who was scammed, but his friend from Russia. Guys from Brave didn't know that things would turn out that way, it was not worth to scam a friend of publicly known person.

Found this on Brave's github: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/10219#issuecomment-671599658

Quote
Follow up:
I transferred the domains to an account of my friend who had Uphold account, and the transfer has passed.
But when it is payment time (8 Aug), that account has been banned and no tokens has been paid.
The explanation of Brave employee was: that account has email in .ru and that why we have right not to pay.
So, I will block access to my sites for Brave again and encourage all the webmasters to do so (especially those who are already in countries Brave has discriminated: currently it is China, Vietnam, Russia, Ukraine and Indonesia), just not to support this scamy project which even use nationalist discrimination to make money.

I just tested opening archive.is website and archiving one forum page in Brave browser on desktop and it is still working fine for me.
One thing we can use as alternative for archiving is wayback machine, but sometimes it is not working.
Then I tried on desktop Dissenter browser (fork of Brave) and received same warning like OP.   Sad

Maybe hiding and changing browser identification with settings tweak or extension is temporary fix, or just use firefox/tor browser.
edit: I tested and it is not working.

edit2: I tried again today, and now I have the same warning in brave browser, and archive website is not working

Oftentimes use Brave and  never encountered  problems similar to OP. As prove I have archived right now this thread  https://archive.is/0ukE3  Working with Brave Version 1.16.72  Truth to be said I have added some extension to trick those sites that want fingerprints of my browser.   If people behind archive are  really block Brave they are just stupid. It’s not about Brave, it’s about users who don’t know how to use it safely. Each browser needs its own way of tackling.
