Goosebumps! I just remembered the "HODL" hype. Some may not understand it in this era anymore. Thinking it is just a word that had been slanged or misspelled. I don't know if this is real but his statements are funny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfEm_SifwQY"Not HODDLE but HODL." "Traders as traitors". Down the comment section they are fighting on how it should be pronounced! What the heck! Just fucking buy the damn bitcoin!

Link to the actual thread: Topic: I AM HODLING https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0Just to add more information, the date the legendary topic was posted is December 18th of 2013. Bitcoin's price at that day was approx $550. So in today's prices( $11,730 as we speak), he's up at a whopping 2,032.73%, and also a whopping 3,500% at bitcoin's ATH(approx $19,800). HODL. Sir where ever you are, my hat off to you.
Though he hasn't posted for a good number of months now, it looks like he's still lurking based on his Last Active date, so there's a chance that he might see this post of yours

I wasn't even here yet when that dude posted that thread. I believe he was drunk when someone rementions that thread not that long time ago though.
Same bro, it was dated in 2013 I was just about high school that year and don't have any idea of the internet lol As he said he had some whiskey, I believe he's drunk that time but also he's aware of what he typed. To this day, it is still quite used of a word lol.
yup we pronounce it as 'hold', yet we spell it as 'hodl' only in crypto but I pronounce it as 'ho-del' , coz you can't pronounce 'd' and 'l' without a vowel sound, it is what it is started from 2013 now we're here! started from 2013, now the whole crypto team is here!

The post is hard to read (it took me a few times), but there's an impressive amount of merits confirming that this is indeed the beginning of hodling. I do agree with him that hodling is a good strategy for people who aren't good at trading (like me) because hodling requires only patience and strong will, while trading can be very nervous, time-consuming and requiring some skills. I don't know what happened to this person (the guy is still relatively active on Bitcointalk, so at least probably alive), but he's been hodling at least as of May 2017 (you can see it from his post history). Even if he lost the ATH opportunity (and there's a chance he didn't), he'd be in great profit now, as pointed out by mk4. So ultimately it's probably the best strategy, albeit not risk-free.

Too sad that the forum member GameKyuubi isn't very active of the forum. His last post is dated back in January 2020,but it appears that he is logged in and browsing the forum in August 13 2020. I guess that he is too busy HODLing. I agree with his post 100%.I myself can't pick the right time to sell my BTC,so I always sell at the wrong time/price.We are natural born HODLers.

The guy really would have inspired a lot of people , at the same time he should have been listed in the wiki for the person who did quote the term HODL !! In the Crypto world , I did not know about this and thus thank you for sharing the information. At the same time I do think the biggest holder of all time would be Mr. Satoshi Nakamoto since he did not touch his Bitcoins and since he is the one who made it , I like to believe that he does support the community from the shadows. Now with the new analysis of the profiles , if you were inactive for a certain time , you cannot gain much Campaigns and at the same time the consistency is valued , therefore maybe he did not want to participate ? We cannot know for sure but I hope the person knows we are talking about him in a good way . At the same time it is good for those people who don't have much to trade and loose as for me trading is a little risky, I try it every once in a while but during quarantine I cannot afford to take risks , therefore I analyze that and realize how Holding is way better than doing something that you are not the expert in..

The meme-y way of this dude's post actually speaks volumes when you understand what he's trying to say. You never lose with bitcoin when you're still holding it, you only lose when you sell it to traders that are making tons of money each day while you accept your loss just because the market is painting everything red. I was just beginning to arouse my curiosity with bitcoin back in 2013 December and I would surely have commented on this post of his if I already have an account in bitcointalk. The meme-y post that inspired a new version of investing: hodling--helping people make money out of waiting since 2013.

It is very good to remember that past, but nowadays people need to be careful when making hodl because there are many cases where Hodl becomes very disadvantageous and the person because he hears other people saying that hodl is very good he will not sell his coins while he can . I say this because of what I see in the altcoins section where many people continue to make shitcoin hodl even though they know they have been suffering losses for a long time.

Indeed a legendary post and a legendary "HODL" term creator which almost everybody is still using today. The investing technic like holding might not been very popular back then (I'm not sure, since I'm in crypto space in 2016), and this poetry-like post just enlightened the weak hands and bad traders, that being in the middle is somehow safer, than lossing your money for the good traders gain. The guy still logged in on August this year. He might have been checking on a few things and changes. I'm not sure If he's aware of the fact that his HODL term has just became a term for everyone to encourage holding their Btc.

Indeed. Well, at my first encounter of this word [HODL] I thought that was a typo error and this is commonly I have seen in [Wall Observer] thread but I read that this is commonly used in bitcoin holder enthusiasts long time ago.
Thank you for this you have shared OP, now I knew who is the creator of this term that most of us here have been used. I hope he is fine until now and HODLing bitcoin for his pension, a retirement fund for him. lol.

Yes, he admit that he was really drank that's why the misspelled of HODLING , but it became a instant classic and stick to the crypto world, so that guy is a legend and now part of our history. And eventually he is proven right, holding and not selling our BTC is the best strategy that you can leverage. And from then on, we see a exponential growth, specially when it reaches all time high in 2017.

GameKyuubi as laszo without them having thought about it have marked the history of Bitcoin. I do not know another anecdote like these but these guys today are remembered as great legends of Bitcoin. They showed us the path we are traveling. They also show us that we must continue to make this forum the best place to talk about Bitcoin. In the midst of this crisis we are making it our refuge. I think so.

Well, he is right though we know that buying more and holding for a longer perspective seems to be much profitable especially when the Crypto market is very well known for huge price swings. This guy is not a bad trader, in fact he's smart because in the categories of traders he falls in the Swing trader type or Long term trader type.

Lol, for real he’s a legend in the cryptocurrency community, he came up with a word that the whole cryptocurrency community are now using, and even the media are making use of the word HODL, it’s like everywhere and it’s now a normal thing lol. And right now there is nothing best to do than to just HODL lol, that’s what I have been doing, no time. Lmao, I can’t even tell if he was truly drunk as he claimed to be lol. He said he tried to correct the topic headline twice and then said whatever or was he just playing with our minds? But whatever, this man just put his name in the history book. Anytime anyone asks about the word HODL, the internet will always refer back to this guy, for as long as cryptocurrency continues to exist.

Yes, it is time for holding. The price of Bitcoin is increasing day by day and it will be growing continuously. So, holding is the best way at this time.

The infamous world "HODL". It has been created by a drunk user of the forum but it went popular all of a sudden . Sadly, at that time I'm still unto spending my fiat cash instead of investing it into Bitcoin as I don't anything about it yet until 2017 . If I only know it at that time and invested even just a few hundred to thousand bucks, I maybe not working for 8 hours in a shitty company now. Follow his words, HODL your Bitcoin. He already said once, we will say it again. HODL YOUR BITCOINS. I'm holding already and spending some too so its ok

We are all curious to know how many bitcoins these legends are still holding up to date, one is him and the other legends that have their forum accounts. The idea of hodl is famous and even the newbies will have to say that word because they've heard and read that from the existing bitcoin holders that they know. If not personally, they get to encounter that here in the forums and social medias. A simple word from a simple man yet it's been the most used term by us.
