The guy weighing my fish didn't use the right tare on the scale, so I paid for 0.02 more pounds than what I got... That represents 26 cents...
It doesn't make any sense. It's a trivial amount of money. But I can't let it go.
Anyone else experiencing something similar. Is there something wrong with me?
Oh, also he used the complete wrong lookup so it showed up as a different fish, but I think the price was the same.

I know logically I shouldn't even care. You win some you lose some. It's not malice, it's just a little bit of incompetence. Well, the complete wrong fish label is a big fuck up and technically illegal but since I know what fish I'm buying and they know and the price is 100% the same that doesn't matter

(except for inventory purposes, sales reports and the paperwork required to update the amount of a certain kind of fish when selling to use a time control) (Yes, I have some experience in selling fish don't judge me).

Do you experience this? Like time is money, it's not even worth thinking about this.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I was charged the price for garlic once for a very large Spanish onion and didn't realize it until I got home.  I paid over $10 for one onion... I wish I could say it was the best tasting onion ever but it was pretty ordinary.  I just watch the cash register a little more closely now when having my groceries tallied so I can nip it in the bud (sorry - terrible pun)

It can be hard to let things go sometimes. Even the trivial things. You really have no other sane choice though.

This is standard practice for this kind of shopping. Sellers are deliberately weighing goods by mistake in order to snatch a tiny piece of money. A good amount can accumulate in a day.

In order to avoid this kind of situation in the markets and in stores, a checkweigher should be installed so that customers can double-check the weight themselves.

You said it yourself that you shouldn't care about it. Especially if the loss is less than $1, it's just not worth it to get mad about small things like this. In my country it's pretty normal that people try to rip you off for a few cents on the markets. It's just standard practice I guess. You either have to tripple check everything directly at the market or let it go. You don't really know how hard the life of the seller is, maybe he really needs the money. Better not to get mad about such small things. Life is hard enough.

Ah yes, the oldest trick to mess with the weight. But if you learned how much he did pay for that fish, you wouldn't ever buy at a shop near home ever again. Why not get closer to the source, or, fish it yourself?

In my country, the price of one fish in the city is like 50~100 fishes near the shore. Getting angry for something this small when you are being ripped off for buying there in the first place is pointless. Of course he will tell you its to keep the shop running, fish needs to be refrigerated, etc. There is also transport, wages, taxes, blah, blah.

So cut the middle men and start fishing already, you may even enjoy it.

Actually I'm in a position to know how much is generally paid for fish by the particular company...

It varies a lot but they pay around 60% of what they charge for retail. And they have to throw away a lot of stuff too. I understand that people have to make a living and companies have to make some profit from the products they sell.

You'd be surprised how all the costs add up for groceries running seafood departments. That's why full service seafood counters are rare in supermarkets in the US nowadays.

If you go to a walmart I doubt they even have a seafood counter, probably just nasty pre-wrapped fish that was previously frozen and then thawed for display.

And while properly frozen fish that were vacuum packed are good, fresh is just a little better. Of course unfortunately it's very few fish that can survive fresh for the days required for transit and still maintain good quality.

And yes I'll start fishing, might as well. I'll start with freshwater. Maybe get some bass and see if I like them.

The costs of running any business can be mindblowing for those who aren't in the know.  The sheer amount of money spent keeping businesses running is insane and unfathomable to most people.  Especially when you get into insurance and regulatory compliance.

here  in my place ?this is a normal scenario in every wet market in which  if  you are  not  particular or familiar in vendors modus?then for sure you will always be a victim.

here there are several types of modus operation by  which some scale really made incorrect weight while others will cheat you by putting the meat or fish faster in weighing scale and full out things that won't even let you see the true weight of the goods.

We are buying everything for more price than its actual price in terms of financial it has been called as profits so I don't bother if the amount I paid is just 26 cents.Maybe the feeling you cheated by someone made you feel in that way and there is nothing wrong to ask about that but it isn't worth our time.

It may seem like a small amount but money is money. I understand your pain, everytime you just think oh if i didnt get over charged here then i could of had this little bit extra for this. It will stick with you for a while but i think eventually you will let it go Smiley

It's finally in the back of my head so to speak.

Only took about 17 days.
/s

Funny how the human brain works. I can forget what a person looks like in an instant. But I remember this so clearly. 0.03 being the correct tare. The type of fish. The mistake. The estimated magnitude of the mistake.

The funny thing is that I cleaned and gutted the fish and took fillets out instead of even cooking the whole thing. So I wasted so much of it. But of course that doesn't matter as how much I spent wouldn't have changed.

Not a matter of efficiency but of total cost. The devil's in the details.

A few years ago I was doing a lot better financially so I wouldn't have cared one bit. And maybe in the future I'll look back at this and think nothing of it, if I remember it at all.

Maybe something similar will happen and I'll remember it and it'll just put a little smile on my face. Because I won't have to even care a little bit.

Edit: Typo, devils ---->devil's
