Hello I am not looking to reinvent the wheel but I would like to get a book that could teach me enough about crypto that I could fork btc and tweak it, I don't want to make a public alt coin I just want to have a better understanding than I do now. I want to be able to look at an alt coins code and understand if it's good or bad coding etc....all the books I seem to find are about what blockchain is and bitcoins history, things I am more than familiar with. Thank you in advance.

If you really want to know about bitcoin, you can go for mastering bitcoin. But there are many other books that are good about cryptocurrencies. Check below.

Good Day Everyone

I just have a lot of time in sharing these books that I collect personally from the internet for further readings when I find some leisure time and I think it would be very beneficial for anyone if they will use their time in reading and educating themselves about the different aspect or nature of cryptocurrency, the technology behind it and its philosophies etc.

Honestly I am having a hard time to actually post this because I am hesitant if posting a direct download link of these educational resources is allowed in this commmmunity so I to had create a thread in Meta to make sure if it is possible to share these book in my arsenal where I also downloaded it for free. Fortunately it is allowed so I think it would be very nice idea if I'll be sharing these books also for free.  Smiley

I can personally vouch for Mastering Bitcoin. I was genuinely shocked the first time I read through it. Andreas goes into great depth and gives lots of additional learning resources for you to look into, for example, he lists several bitcoin libraries that you can try out (in multiple programming languages). The diagrams are great, the examples are great, the guy even uploaded it to GitHub so you can access it for free. Take a look through it there first and buy it if want to support his work (I got my physical copy after I read ~100 pages).

Here's the link: https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook

If you want to be able to understand code, you need to learn about coding, not about Bitcoin. I’d suggest starting with some Python tutorials and letting your curiosity lead you to where you want to go.

Anyway, going back to the topic, OP if you are having a hard time downloading those books then you can try to visit Crypto Detail. You can find a cool summary of stuffs there. I hope this might help.

I've been around here for a few years. My main interest was learning TA. I am a dummy I had a "friend" who told me about BTC in 2011 he told me it was "like paypal" and I understand it was meant originally to be competition to PP but for that reason it had not caught my interest. I use to go to school for coding in 08/09 but I found it very boring...BTC has renewed my interest but I am too old to go to school now no doubt too old to be involved in any successful project but would still love to learn more about it seeing as it has potential to change/save the world. So it's just for me, I don't dare dream of wealth that isn't on the horizon for me. Thank you very much all the descriptions of the books I looked at (some of those books listed even here) didn't sound like they were anything other than a history lesson on the tech. I appreciate the help.

Anyway I know this would be out of the topic but since you already mentioned TA (means technical analysis, right?), may I know what is the best technical indicator for you? If you don't mind to share. I'm planning to become a trader soon and I want to hear insights from experienced people Smiley.

I already made a huge list of books that are related to the Crypto industry maybe you can find here what you looking for. Although this list was made years ago, you can still find some good stuff here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5144671

And also there are some books that are not on the list, maybe I add them again If I have some extra time.

You might have some trouble if you don't know a programming language. I recommend learning python and reading this book in parallel. You're going to get lost and lose motivation if you don't have any way to apply what you know. If you know python and can get python-bitcoinlib or pycoin working, you're going to have a much better time following the examples and developing a working understanding of the technology.

I generally think it's worth understanding a simple scripting language like python if you're in a technical field. It's a lot more applicable then you may be lead to believe from a few classes. You don't need to become a programming expert by any means, but you're going to want to be at least familiar with a few concepts and protocols.

Here's a quick list of stuff you may want to take a look at:
  • Stack (data structure)
  • HTTP
  • JSON
  • RPC
  • Software Libraries
  • Bits vs. Bytes
  • Decimal/Hexidecimal
  • Character Encoding
  • Big Vs. Little Endian
These are all things that come up in the book at some point or another and if you don't understand them you're going to get stuck. I'm not trying to scare you off or anything, but this is a challenging book (even for software developers). I think you can get through it without a programming background, but it might not be worth it. Doing that would be like studying ordinary differential equations without knowing calculus or linear algebra.

Reading books is really good, it makes us learn new things. There are some people who are really comfortable learning things through reading books than surfing the internet because there is still fake information that we can read on the internet, unlike the information that we can acquire from reading books.

You may visit this link: List of books about cryptocurrency: https://bookauthority.org/books/new-cryptocurrency-books

I've never posted here just used it to keep up to date on a select few alt coins.
I could have been an early adopter, like I said by reaffirming your initial suspicion I'm a dummy I didn't think you could make money on paypal I didn't see how bitcoin was different if it was a competitor...That's partly why I put "friend" in quotes, he brought it up one time and that was it - I should have looked into it.
Yes that's TA I did well with day trading back in 2018 with MACD/RSI/3 moving averages are incredibly useful, I suggest you change the 20 day ema to 21.
There are some indicators I would like to buy but I haven't used them so I can't recommend them and they're expensive (2,500+). Also watch the bitcoin longs and shorts on bitfinex. Just don't fall in love with an alt coin always turn the crap into gold. That was my mistake, a rather costly one at that.

I hope all the newbies that are joining this forum has a mentality like yours most of the newbies I've encountered just want to be part of bounty campaign or promoting their projects here in Bitcointalk and thank you for posting your question I stumble a link where to download the link to enhance my knowledge about Cryptocurrency and blockchain.

Thats why markets work how they do the dumb money pours in looking to earn a quick buck and smart people wait to dump it on those people just following trends. I was apprehensive touching BTC after it hit 2k I wish I had bought in then 2017.  I missed a once in a life time opportunity twice. I don't think there's a 3rd times a charm waiting for me (it's too expensive/I'm broke/didn't have cash when it hit 3k). But who knows, Tether could be the next Mt Gox. They have their hands pretty deep fisted up the ass of the investigation so that is a very big IF.

So true, though I have found misinformation in books but the kind that I would consider along the lines of "typos" more books the better. The upside to books too is I don't need EMP proof bags got to put those hard wallet in them that's perhaps the biggest threat to btc/internet life style we've grown accustom to. a thank you for your suggestions Alucard.
