I love this article for its credibility. Everything discussed has been a retrospective from the vision of an American in the year 2020. Who has an interest in cryptocurrencies. I didn't know that Universities like Harvard, Stanford, and MIT, are investing in crypto funds. My vote is that already cryptocurrencies are in the mainstream.

Here in our local scene, I don't yet feel the presence of crypto adoption. Though the current pandemic open huge amount opportunities to transact digitally, for me crypto still don't get the spotlight Sad. People go to the usual means such as payment cards (like Visa and Mastercard) and other online financial services (like Paypal, Paymaya, Gcash etc.) instead of it.

I don't know about you guys but the majority of population here in our country are still not aware of crypto. And besides, most of people here are struggling on surviving at the moment. Spending and exploring new means of making transactions is not on the top of the list. That's why I think 2020 is not crypto's year.

I think it comes down to your very own definition of mainstream. As for me, mainstream means I can go out in any random shop I chose and buy something with Bitcoin, preferebly on a card. Beside that, BTC must be accepted by the public as a means of exchange AND understood in its basic idea. That said, I think there needs to be a lot of education done, as well as infrastructure build to really say BTC is mainstream

I think it really depends on what ones definition of "mainstream" is.  I think to some extent we've already reached mainstream adoption.

Support on this because Mainstream is depend on how we look at it and how we believe,Bitcoin is already Mainstream because the whole world already know about this and may be using this though in limited use only.
A good portion of the world is familiar with bitcoin, presidents have spoken about it in public, goverments have released  rules etc.  That said I think bitcoins adoption has a long ways to go, and we've yet to come close to the adoption we will likely see in a few years.  Especially once these fiat currencies keep devaluing themselves.
Than is exactly what is happening since Governments has already set their rules regarding Bitcoin meaning they have already idea what is this and that means mainstreaming is happening in our time now.

Define mainstream though. If you were to describe mainstream as something like how Battle royale games dominated the market for a few years already, then I doubt you could describe crypto as mainstream yet. Sure, a lot of people know about it, but I really doubt that a lot of people use it, enough to describe it as mainstream that is. Especially since if you were to consider how only a few e-commerce sites actually accept Bitcoin for payment, and at the same time, the low amount of physical stores that accept them as payment. Of course, this may not actually be relevant (the physical store one), but you can't deny that only a select few actually accept BTC/Crypto payments for buying stuff online.

There's also the issue of what constitutes crypto being "mainstream". It's a currency so to say, so considering how crypto is being used as an investment instead, does that mean you can consider it as one already? If it were in the area of crypto being an investment, well, yes it's already the mainstream, together with stocks I suppose.

I just did a poll, I think everyone knows that lately the flow of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is growing rapidly, I don't think we will wait much longer, cryptocurrencies will go mainstream in the near future at least next year
Can you elaborate how would crypto be mainstream next year?are you part of a Big advertising company that will promote Crypto worldwide in the highest perception?if not then don't Just talk that you can predict tomorrow when the truth is you dont'

and besides what is mainstream to you?have you really understand what is this mean?

I love this article for its credibility. Everything discussed has been a retrospective from the vision of an American in the year 2020. Who has an interest in cryptocurrencies. I didn't know that Universities like Harvard, Stanford, and MIT, are investing in crypto funds. My vote is that already cryptocurrencies are in the mainstream.
i don't think universities need to invest here because what they need is to have a course to teach the student what is blockchain and cryptocurrency is all about and how will this work for their life in future generation.

We need to get a basic idea about Bitcoin. It is very difficult to say how far Bitcoin will reach the mainstream because the price of Bitcoin is not stable and always rises.seeing the rising trend of Bitcoin prices, it seems that cryptocurrency will go into the mainstream by the end of this year. The price of Bitcoin is rising and with it the demand. As a medium of exchange will rise a lot.

If we are comparing fiat currency with cryptocurrency in terms of it going to the mainstream, fiat is way being used by people compare to crypto.

Although cryptocurrency isn't that popular in some countries as of this moment or I should say that most of the people still don't use it, we are heading to a time where cryptocurrency is going mainstream and that is 100% sure. People are slowly using it. Adoption is going higher at a slow pace though but still there is an increase of users of crypto annually. I know that there will be a time that crypto will go mainstream. I believe we are in the very very early days. Many people might heard about it in the news, or from their friends talking about it, but none of them would know how or where to begin.

Mainstream is when the state/companies/banks start using it to move value to another accepting state/company/bank.

Cryptocurrency is practically popular because people are really supporting it but still there are governments who are not engaging in the legalization of cryptocurrency in their country. Crypto is already a mainstream currency because most of us do have an idea about it that it is a digital currency.

If people are into the use of technology, they will somehow find cryptocurrency interesting while surfing in the internet and spending time doing research about things, because that's how I found bitcoin. Curiosity really have a big impact toward crypto adoption and popularity as it urge people to invest and explore with it.

To some extent I feel crypto is already gone mainstream because of the way the awareness has increased over the years, even now it feels more and more businesses are accepting crypto for payment, recently there has been talks about PayPal including crypto in their system, so to me I feel crypto has somewhorth gone mainstream.

Regardless if Fidelity's prediction is right or wrong I think it is it the positive column in terms of being considered 'mainstream' when companies such as Fidelity are spending a considerable effort to predict bitcoin's future price.

Sure doesn't hurt my head either that they are predicting a $1M price point by 2029  Cool

Crypto-currency already mainstream and popular in my country. However, it is popular for being used in an investment scheme. It's always in our local news and sometimes my parents and some of my friends think that I'm earning in illegal ways. But I'll always tell them how I earn in a legal way and explains that Bitcoin is used as a mode of payment in investment schemes.

It already has become mainstream, and we can see that on the TV series like Mr. Robot. If you go to the streets and ask to people 'do you know Bitcoin?' most of them will say, i have listen about it or read about it some were, even we can see bitcoin in the news, so, that means it's already mainstream.

If you say mainstream, that means the conventional use of Bitcoin. That's almost exactly the same as adaption/popularity and usage.
Well, IMO Btc is yet to be on the mainstream level base on the statistics conducted in 2019

Source : https://news.bitcoin.com/latin-america-and-turkey-have-the-most-cryptocurrency-users-poll-shows/
The data might not be accurate depends on the number of respondents, but 20% is still too low considering the limited number of respondents.
Though, It might change in 2020 since everyone right now will prioritize in paying a cashless transactions, thus Bitcoin's name will surely come across to every consumer, specially now that there is a growing number of merchants and companies who are accepting Bitcoin.
Nobody knows when will Bitcoin become the "mainstream" in general, but sure 2020 will be a good start.

One reason why South America seem to have adopted faster was because Ver was trying ot promote his scam there. This is one scenario when the scam has helped the adoption of cryptocurrency in a particular area. Unfortunate for Ver is that its BTC thats been adopted not his BCH.  I have been seeing bitcoin in the facebook pages of the tv personalities recently which they were discussion economy and money. To me this indicate that Bitcoin is going mainstream.

it seems like some people have different meanings for "going mainstream". in most cases they think if the centralized entities such as banks start talking about cryptocurrencies then it must mean "going mainstream" but the reality is that even if they are talking about the subject they are only showing interest in the technology so that they can create a centralized altcoin for themselves.

I'm surprised that the top response is 'already has' because it's nowhere near mainstream, in my opinion. There are up to 100 million Bitcoin users (at least, according to the data I've found), which is less than 1.5% of the population. Moreover, Bitcoin is in the grey legal area in many countries, and where it is regulated, it's often not considered money (but rather property, stock and similar). Bitcoin is getting more and more recognised and becoming something people know about. More companies get interested, there are more mentions in culture and probably more users than 5 years ago, but this all does not mean Bitcoin is mainstream. I've voted for 'in 2025', but I think it's an optimistic prognosis that takes into account how fast-changing our world is. It might take more time, but I think it will get objectively big within our lifetime.

I think cryptocurrency needs two more stages, recognition and regulation
If these two stages have been achieved in my opinion it only takes about 1 year for large-scale mass adoption
This is just what I have in mind that cryptocurrency will become mainstream in the near future between 1-3 years but I hope it will be faster than what I imagined

I do believe that the area that bitcoin needs now is regulation because as of recognition, it is no longer used by few people. The number of usage is now increasing by the day. So regulation should be the next step for bitcoin to get there.
