Hello,

I was thinking and wondering of different ways to introduce my family, friends and colleagues to bitcoin and I tried to convince them, but couldn't pitch in perfectly to get them going.

Things I tried
  • Showed them the current value of BTC pegged to fiat, which did get thier attention for a while.
  • Told them about how it all started, how the community adopted the use of BTC and how it all boomed.
  • Showed them my wallets : how easy and fast it is to send and recieve to almost anywhere in the world as long as there is an internet connection.
  • Introduced them to a few exchanges to show how easy it is to buy or sell whenever they want to.
  • Told and proved to them how secure and anonymous a transaction is and how fast it can be for cross border transactions compared to other financial institutions.

Well, I pretty much tried to do everything I could. Now after they listened to all that I said, watched everything as that I showed to them as a demo, they did thier own research. They started shooting a few questions like
  • See how often the price drops, this could be a bubble
  • See Google tells crypto currency is used in black market to keep anonymity and make illegal trasactions
  • See these types of currencies are used for the purpose of gambling to be in disguise

So basically, what I am looking for as an answer is, an approach that can be used in order to gain interest of people, stating all the good things and the bad things about BTC in a manner that a "noob" can understand and try to think, yes this is already beneficial to others, why not I try it too ?

All suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

In my experience ignorance costs nothing.

People you know will continue to complain about things without ever investing - I don't think there's much hope tbh.

You could hold some coins for them or something/put some of your aside but other than that I don't know.

You do not need to force yourself on someone to believe you, just do your part and leave the rest. But, no matter what, not all your friends, collegues and family will neglect it, only further explaining what you know to those that embraced it. With time, with positive news from you, others or few from others can also like and embrace bitcoin.

Things I tried
  • Showed them the current value of BTC pegged to fiat, which did get thier attention for a while.
I never bring this up when introducing someone to Bitcoin, except they are traders.
This should not be the primary reason someone gets into Bitcoin, if it is, they would lose interest pretty quickly and cut their losses once the price drops a little or take their profits when it goes high, and that's it. For one to switch (a portion of) their fiat for Bitcoin, the focus should be geared towards the fundamentals of it and why it could solve the existing problems with the current financial system. If they do not see any problem in the system, nor do they desire the freedom and privacy that Bitcoin offers, then there's very little you can do.

  • See how often the price drops, this could be a bubble
  • See Google tells crypto currency is used in black market to keep anonymity and make illegal trasactions
  • See these types of currencies are used for the purpose of gambling to be in disguise
Suggested responses;
• The price rises more than it drops overtime, so it can really not be called a bubble, also a characteristic of almost all investments and assets is volatility. They should do more research on what a bubble is.
• I guess they care less that their local currency is also used for illegal transactions.
Google search returns is not the best place to get in-depth knowledge, you could refer them to educative articles, books, podcasts etc
• I don't really understand this, privacy is not disguise, it's the freedom to spend money without being monitored.

Try explaining to them why these concerns are unfounded. But, do not project the advantages you esteem in Bitcoin on them, what you value may not matter to them.
Giving them useful resource with which to learn the basics, and possibly deeper as time goes, is the best strategy, this would help them discover what BTC means to them and choose what they want to do with it, as there are so many facets to it.

I would suggest you never force anyone to get into investment or take the burden of giving financial advice, you should only suggest options, give them useful tools and let them do their research, it is more important when dealing with people you know personally, as you could be blamed if they get in and it goes south (maybe due to their personal mistakes)

P.S; Have you tried referring them to this forum?

Since Im into cryptocurrency. Of course it comes to my mind to encourage my family and relatives to do this too cause the potential is so high. However, I cant insist it to them, I know the risk that could happened on their money once the market crashes due to volatility.

I think explained honestly to them the pros and cons without much sweet talk. Tendency of introduction is to let them know about it, now the shill to make them invest is cost high so you must be honest with them with your own thoughts not make them fomo because btc reach 20k before something like that.

Be honest as possible.

I always put in my mind that when I open up about Bitcoin, I wouldn't expect them to believe me or getting convinced. I'm expecting ignorance and rejection most of the time, and that's normal.

My Facebook friends keep declining because of me getting involved in Bitcoin and the crypto world (maybe because they're jealous seeing me traveling often in local cities and overseas for the past couple of years until this pandemic struck).

Just like sales, I can only say that he or she is a worthy prospect when inquiring or interested about Bitcoin rather than me opening up to them. If they say what I do, I'm just proud to say that I am now into Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, but I don't expect them to be amused (unless they insist me to tell them more about Bitcoin).

But for now, I'm doing "reverse" sales mode. I don't e-mail or sending DMs to a lot of prospects telling them to buy Bitcoin, etc. I just keep sharing content about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies until a few of them inquired to me about it first and telling them the risks involved when they do decide to buy Bitcoin at that price.

Keep it simple.

  • Should not try to give advice to people who don't need that. They will not really open their ears to listen to your words.
  • You can proactively try to introduce it to potential guys but only talk about it one time. If they are interested in your words about bitcoin or crypto, they will come back to ask you more details. This time your words have more value for them.
  • Should not proactively try second or third times with the same person. Just wait for their proactive questions for you. If not, stop your introduction.

It is the same as when you are a lecturer. If your student need your advice, they will find you and do appreciate your help. Sometimes or most of times, when you proactively advice and force them with challenging questions, they don't like you.

Your first time plays as a test, if they fail with the test, you won't need to give them a second / third advice.

One of the best ways of introducing bitcoin, is to first introduce what's wrong with the current system, and how bitcoin could potentially be the answer to that problem.

Teaching cryptocurrency to your family and friends is a good thing to do, we should share the things we know about the crypto world especially to our loved ones because we know the benefits that it can give to many people.

You may start telling them about these things:
1. What are blockchain and cryptocurrency.
2. Tell them how cryptocurrency has been made.
3. Things that cryptocurrency can do or where can you use cryptocurrency.
4. You may also give them an idea of how to earn cryptocurrency.
5. The best thing to do is to tell them to join this forum, honestly I learned cryptocurrency because of this forum. One of my friends told me this platform and I am very thankful because I learned a lot of things here. There are many boards here that can help us to know cryptocurrency in different fields. At first, I was so confused because there are so many terms that I really don't know, but whenever I encounter those terms I just search it on google, and sometimes I ask him about it.

You pretty much did what one can do: Introduce the concepts, provide a hands-on/visual experience, and debated whatever came-up. I don’t know if you omitted the negative aspects by association from the beginning, or tried to refute them when they brought them up, but they should be part of the introduction, with all the counterarguments that one deems necessary.

Aside from that, it’s down to each one to take it on from there with no pressure, make their own decisions, at their own pace, and take responsibility for themselves. I can still see many people around me I would never suggest getting into Bitcoin, neither from a usability point of view, nor an investment one (them being very conservative with their savings, and technologically subpar). You can assist them, but not decide for them.

Nah, I guess that not necessary specially when the still didn't get their attention towards Bitcoin on those attempts he made.

Everything you've tried is the very least and effective way to introduce someone to Bitcoin, but If it doesn't work then, there's nothing we can do about it. At least they have heard it from you first, the most trusted person for them. Who knows the next time they hear about it might ignite their interest and start consulting you again, trust me.

There's nothing you can do if the people if the person is not interested even if you tried more harder to introduce bitcoin since there are reasons for theirselves on why they reject it, But if you can see a person has little interest maybe the proof of profits you get is the best tool for you to use so that they will be more curious on how those things work up and so they could try it.

Giving them the background about bitcoin and how it has evolved over the past decade. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using it and sharing my personal level experiences with them. Since, I would be knowing the person to whom I am talking so personal experience will play a vital role and being telling the complete truth is expected because you would not like to just tell the best of the story and not ignoring to tell about risks associated with it.

A good way would be to just gift someone some bitcoin, which would make them look into wallets, how to safely store bitcoin etc. It's a much better incentive to make someone learn about blockchain technology then just lecturing people about it.

I remember doing it and they just became interested when the price increases during 2017 but when the price falls they get not interested. Crypto is only for those whose willing to risk at the same is eager to learn, even we give many details or even free BTC many were not an investor or risky type of persons as they fear some loses.
I only teach bitcoin or tells it only to people who shows interest, I do post sometimes about topic in crypto and only those who will ask and seems interested the only time I will discussed how it works.

Hello guys, thanks for all the replies, but some of you ask me to let it go  Undecided. Well, I created the topic so as to know on ways that can help them develop a interest into crypto currency, we live in the same household, they see me using it, they see me benifit from it, but still there must have been something lacking which doesn't boost thier confidence on the go to implement the same. Hence I asked for suggestions.

I think you already did enough just to introduce bitcoin to the people around you. But if they are still not interested, then don't push yourself too much because you will just waste your efforts. For me, it's better to introduce bitcoin to people who are interested and eager to learn. Personally, I have also tried introducing bitcoin to some people around me but of course, not everyone is willing to learn.

Telling only the good side of bitcoin to catch their attention won't really be helpful, I guess? I mean, a lot of people already have misconceptions that bitcoin is like easy money that's why they get interested, but once they realized it's not like that, they will start losing interest.

That's good! Getting more people on board, or at least dispelling notions that Bitcoin is "dark" or "bad" money is important!

I recently explained Bitcoin to my SO's mother. She knows I work in Bitcoin, but never really understood it. We had lunch a few weeks ago, and she told me she genuinely wanted to learn more. I just explained that at its basic form, it is a currency just like USD or EUR. Where it differs is the digital aspects: it has increased security and anonymity. She asked about fraud, and I pointed out that Bitcoin transactions can actually be tracked easier than cash, law enforcement can follow transactions if they know the original wallet.

Essentially, there's two approaches I use. First, I keep things nontechnical, most people don't care about the technical stuff, unless they are a tech person themselves. Explain it in basic terms, focusing on the currency and security aspects. Second, I don't defend by going on the attack. When people ask about the negatives of Bitcoin, I instead explain how Bitcoin can actually offer solutions to negative activity.

You already introduce to them what's the highlight with the use of the bitcoin and I think one of the best you should do is show them that you really earn regarding bitcoin.

I also introduce the use of bitcoin to some of my friends because I want them to earn too than risking their money to some of the platforms which are common scams and Ponzi Scheme. Most of the time they ignore me because they think this is just a scam because there are a lot of people lose a lot of money with the use of cryptocurrency.

After a few months, I already made an investment which is my very first own gaming PC and some of them notice this and ask where did you get this and how you earn a large amount of money even you don't have a job and the one thing I answer to them is

"Because of bitcoin"

by that, they are asking time to time what are the things they need to learn and what do I recommend, so I suggest is to use a buy low and sell high technique.

I don't have any update to them right now if they already gained profit or not.

Ps. I'm not a professional investor or trader just a common person want to earn with bitcoin too.

You know, Bitcoin or cryptocurrency could really be a very difficult task to introduce to an ignorant mind on the course. With all the need to know terminologies of the field, coupled with the series of security systems to be put in place and the withdrawal patterns... These and many more scares them, they feel it's just too much to take in and the risk element following the activities of scammers makes it a NO field for them!
The thing is, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is for everyone and also not for everyone. I say this because, it's the vision for every Bitcoin or cryptocurrency enthusiast to know about Bitcoin and why we are so proud of it but then, not everyone would follow. As such, you show them the path and hope they walk it. If they don't, that's a choice they've made. The least you could do is, respect it.
