Who is going to pick up a few RTX 3090s (or 3080s, 3070s) ?

"Nvidia has finally detailed its new line of video cards, which is under the new Ampere architecture. Specifically, the RTX 3080, 3070, and 3090 cards were revealed. These are the second generation of RTX cards that will run features like real-time ray tracing with much higher performance than current RTX cards.

The RTX 3080 is set to launch on September 17 for $700 USD, and the RTX 3070 was also revealed with a release window in October and a price of $500. The massive high-end card, the RTX 3090, is said to be capable of 8K resolution at 60 FPS performance--the RTX 3090 will launch on September 24 and pricing starts at a whopping $1500. RTX 3000 series pre-orders are not yet available, but Nvidia's website does have a "notify me" button if you're eager to place an order. Traditionally, a new line of GPUs sells out quickly when they first go up for pre-order, and that could easily be the case here due to Nvidia's surprisingly aggressive pricing."

It's stupid buying this card for mining purpose because the hashing rate you will get won't worth the money, with 700$ you can buy few  rx470 and rx580 on ebay and get ROI much faster, I will wait till price drops before considering

Do you think it's a good deal or are you getting one to benchmark?

People with more money than sense will all buy a rtx 3090. I myself will get 1 x rtx 3080 and only 1 to play games, not to mine and I advise to do the same but remember what I said, buy to play games, not to mine.

I will buy a cheap one the 3070.

Back in 2016, a gtx 1070 made a lot more sense to buy than the gtx 1080, this time nvidia destroyed any advantage a rtx 3070 would have x rtx 3080 concerning price performance.

How do you know?  It could very well hash Eth at 100MH/s @200w, but probably not until some mining software is tuned for it.

benchmark.

i have 40 cards.

1080tis
1080
1070tis
1660
1660tis

amd 5700
amd 5600
amd 5500

I benched the
2060
2070
2080

was not impressed and held my 1080tis grabbed some 1660 cards

grabbed a few amd early this year.

I really like the amd 5000 series cards.

i dont expect much from the nvidia 3000 series.

but i will bench them all slowly.

as for rx 570 or rx 580

the amd 5500 uses way less power does around 28mh  and 8gb cards can be had for under 200

Nvidia not so strong as it once was.
most of the algo advantages are now slowly being FPGA'd
ill be replacing my whole farm for sure this series tho, over 100x 1080tis. i skipped 20 series, werent worth it
likely ill replace with all 3070, but maybe 3080, need to get one to see about the X mem first
the 3070 dosent have that X mem, COULD make a difference, we will see

if ETH hits 800$CDN in next 2 weeks tho, then ill sell some and use profits to buy 3090s maybe :p
just not sure yet , that card is so big dik haha, some of my rigs will need new PSUs and maybe even boards to handle it :/

IF we saw a "pill" for this series, that would make the difference, but with how it was received last time, fat chance of that happening Sad

nvidia started with competitive price (unlike in the past) and they increased power consumption of their cards.

increasing power consumption to increases performance is a "cop-out" for performance-efficiency ratio.... if amd is doing 100 fps at 280w and nvidia is doing 120 fps at 320w LOL

maybe they knew amd has something nice coming out.

amd radeon vii is 100mhs at ethash, big navi should do 150mhs

if this is true big navi having ~50mhs more hash than 3090 is a no brainer for mining, even if some can argue that that is just for ethash, the HBM new gen might pull off a winner here.

if is 512 bit or hbm2 then yeah.

I think I will get an rtx 3090 to game, have as a work workstation, and mine at nights to keep the house warm in winter time.

Those that bought 2080 ti to mine with is just plain dumb due to only 11 mb vram and huge price tag.

However the 3090 probably wont' be as bad b/c it has  24mb vram is HUGE! compared to the 11 VRAM on 2080 ti.  You can potentially mine complex algos like Grin that gives some advantage to those with Big Vram.   However Grin hype had faded and profits not all that great with Grin. But i think it's a good long term hold. 3090 is a good card to make you feel like you got a ferrari and geek out on.

i'll probably get a 3080 as well. These seems to be a good balance for those looking to build dense rigs, less cards to maintain. This has a tad better memory over the 3070.   Just one on launch till we see more mining performance.

3070 rtx sounds pretty awesome also if you plan to go all in on mining and buy tons of video cards.

Nowadays I just mine for hobby and try to find good colo's that can try to work with gpu miners. Most colo's hate gpus and only want to work with asics.

Overall you can't go too wrong with Nvidia.  All the nvidia cards 10 series 20 series are still mining today whereas those with rx570/rx580 dropped tons of value and big farms had to shut down rigs and sell off their cards, they were the ones left holdings the heavy bags of overpriced outdated gpus.  Dont' make that same mistake.  All because they rather save a few bucks on the initial cost and weren't thinking about long term play. They were thinking of the short term current profitability of that time..

It's safe to say if you get an nvidia 3000 series you will be mining them for at least 3 years minimum.  10 series been mining for 4 years+ still.  Asics sort of depressing to see it only mine for 1 year and than you gota figure out how to recycle them.

Nvidia's may not roi as fast as AMD but overall nvidia is a lot more fun to mine with and more algos and tends to have a longer mining lifecycle especially if you have 8 cent electric or better.

big vram mining advantage like grin, is a gamble might be worth it or not, a new coin or an algo change might utilize it 24gb advantage. but if the gamble worked you're going to be a happy guy hehe

Quote
but overall nvidia is a lot more fun to mine with and more algos

I think this part is the one getting fpga'd. - "GPU core intensive algos"

GPU mining with ETH showed that GPU's can withstand asics and fpgas with "memory technology", core reliant algos do not. Watch the VRAM tech in both AMD and NVIDIA, that's is the key if you still want to GPU mine for the coming years hehe

for me 3090 is a good personal rig gpu, if you manage to ROI even half the price with mining- you are still a winner. I don't care if a card needs 3 or even 4 pcie lanes and consumes 400-500watts, as long as it is not 2 cards that sli or crossfire where it chokes the card above lol (I don't do liquid cooling btw).

3090 want to test my 3 card - 1300w psu rig setup, 3080 is still a sure thing for this config, maybe a 3090 model that is not a factory overclock from a 3rd party manufacturer might not be a power hog to breach my 1300w 3 card setup, they make product line up for a specific model i.e. 3090 and call them 3090 ultra, 3090 basic or 3090 advance (clocks differ). I like mining rig density too.

Benchmark and hash rates are coming out...

https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-ethereum-daggerhashimoto-mining-performance

"As for the mining performance itself, the GeForce RTX 3080 has a mining rate of 73-74 MH/s out of the box on Ethereum DaggerHashimoto algorithm. The performance reaches up to 82-84 MH/s and overclocking the card leads to a maximum performance output of up to 92-93 MH/s. Currently, the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT outputs around 50-54 MH/s while the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti delivers up to 54 MH/s."

A lot more testing is needed

The owner of the RTX 3090 claims to have pulled off such a trick using VRAMdrive software called GPU Ram Drive. He created a 15GB NTFS partition in the card memory and installed Crysis 3 on it, which means a large amount of video memory. Smiley  https://twitter.com/Strife212/status/1312553602934865923

To be honest, I thought that the results of the RTX 3090 in VanitySearch, for example, would exceed the RTX 2080Ti by at least 200%, but judging by the screenshots of one of the telegram channels, this is not the case. Compared with its RTX 2080Ti and it turns out that the 3090 exceeds the 2080Ti by a little more than 166% which is actually not a bad thing you may need to update the program for the Amper series. Is the 3090 the first card to get over 1 graph per second (1gps) on Grin Cuckatoo32?

Can anyone with a 3090, or 3080 for that matter, report the C32 graphrate they get?
