okay 2x amd 5600 = 550 usd to 600 usd mining eth you get 77-82 mh burns under 230 watts in total at the wall. 1x nvidia 3070 cost 600 burns under 180 watts in total at the wall so it saves 50 watts or 1.2 kwatts a day. lets pretend it saves 2 kwatts a day that is 20 cents at 10 cent power 30 cents at 15 cent power. and I think it will do 65 to 70 mh. Seems like a push compared to 2 of these. https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-5600-xt-rx-5600-xt-gaming-mx/p/N82E16814137571?

Can't judge since I haven't seen the MH/S of the new etc 3070 yet but presently rx5700 and 5700XT are the best, they are better than RTX2080Ti in mining, less energy consumption and more hashing power

I think it will be a "game changer" if you are playing games. Won't be a game changer for mining. A lot of the improvements (and cost) are due to the tensor and ray tracing cores.

So it's just a "min[o|e]r change" for us?

The cost was paid in the RTX2000 series with a big price jump over GTX1000. RTX3000 has no price increase but double the cuda cores. But I agree, other than the massive core count increase, there are no new features that help miners.

Well I was not an idiot, I knew the rtx 2xxx series would be a failure, so I have not bought any and I don't regret a bit. The only drawback about the 3080 is the lack of more memory which 10gb for me is not enough in 2 or 3 years down the line. You see with the ps5 and the new xbox, games will definitely use a lot more video memory, 4k, 8k, hdr, 10gb is bullshit from nvidia, 3080 dead on arrival hehe but I still think on buying it, yeah will likely buy a dead card hehe

Guess most people didn't buy into the raytracing hype as it was too weak in its first iteration. Guessing this new 3000 series will generate better sales for Nvidia going forward.

Guess most people didn't buy into the raytracing hype as it was too weak in its first iteration. Guessing this new 3000 series will generate better sales for Nvidia going forward. 2000 series is literally just a demo tech and somehow, Nvidia bold enough to attach a price tag to that still-in-development tech and sell to the consumers. Make the consumers become their beta-tester. The number of 2000 cards is quite limited by now as Nvidia and their partners don't produce it anymore. Most in the market are just the ones in used condition now. 3000 line up with 3070 8GB VRAM and 3080 10GB VRAM is not enough for 2K and 4K resolution if it was AAA game and ultra setting. It's just another ploy from Nvidia to 'gimp' their card for another line-up, 3070ti and 3080ti with 16BG VRAM or more. Right now, from miner's perspective, this change with the new 3000 line up only can count as 'game changer' for anyone in gaming but we will have to wait for AMD's big navi to see if they have anything to challenge Nvidia in term of p/p to meet with $499 3070 but on the same pair with 2080ti (as Nvidia claim).

When Nvidia announced 2000 series, they said 2070 is faster than Titan XP but in real life the XP was 30% faster in Games.
So maybe 2080ti is now as fast as 3080..?

I there's a supply shortage of gddr6x they can sell more cards by using less VRAM in each. When the gddr6x supply builds I expect to see 3070 with 12 or 16 GB & 3080 with 16 or 20 GB but not Ti models.

Hash rates are coming out...they look good.
Looks like it's going to be hard to get your hands on these cards, re-sellers are going to jack up the price.
The good news is that other cards should go "on sale"

Has anyone been able to test this yet, anyone got their hands on an engineering sample or something. Something tells me we can simply take the RTX 3080 hashrate and calculate 3080 cuda cores minus 3070 cuda cores, then you will get the RTX 3070 hashrate. What do you think?

To get the best out of your 1299$ its better to go for lower cards if you are going fully mining, I prefer buying gtx1660 super and with 1200$ you can buy up to four gtx1660 super, if you can tweak very well you will get 30 to 31 MHS per card, that's 120MHS and each cards will draw 80watt max, this is better setup than goin for rtx 3070

For small miners that only have 1 or 2 rigs this may be the case. For people who have massive farms there are other considerations. Each card requires a PCIe slot and also requires its own riser as well as power connector. The added space, connectors, and chance for more devices to have failures adds complexity. The 3070 will also hold it's value as a percentage of original cost better than a 1660 super will. More VRAM will also allow the 3070 to access other algos should they become more profitable than ETH. Ultimately it depends on the goal of the miner. If I was going for straight value I think the 5600XT gives more hash/$ than the 1660S with the knowledge that resale will be much lower at the EOL.

Usually there is a price sweet spot in the upper midrange but GTX1600/RTX2000 series are different, the 1600s don't have the RTX premium. I think the VRAM worries are overblown. There are only a couple of algos where 4 GB isn't enough and the ones that are growing aren't growing that fast.

There are only a couple of algos where 4 GB isn't enough and the ones that are growing aren't growing that fast. That is true about the 1660s not having RTX tensor cores as wasteful space on chip. The VRAM issue is not overblown, however, as much more than a "couple" algos are in that greater than 4GB category. In fact if you look at every profitable coin for a 1060 for example, the top ones all require 6GB and even RVN just blew past the 3GB file size. So those who were short sighted to save 20% and go for the cheaper 3GB cards really payed the price on both the ETH rally and any other possible algos. If ETH goes POS before 6GB then it's won't matter as much but they're certainly not moving on that front very quickly.
