Hello everybody
I'm seeking help for valuing what I think might be an interesting piece of collectible related to Bitcoin's history in the upcoming future.

Everyone knows the story behind the "Chancellor on Brink.." genesis block message and the 03/Jan/2009 issue of The Times is now a highly sought-after piece
(ref. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5134423.0).

What many might have missed is, on the 11th May 2020, right before the 3rd Halving at block 629.999, another highly symbolic message was included in the blockchain, namely:

"NYTimes 09/Apr/2020 With $2.3T Injection, Fed's Plan Far Exceeds 2008 Rescue"

(ref1: https://www.coindesk.com/history-has-repeated-f2pool-explains-message-last-block-before-bitcoin-halving , ref2 : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5247708.0)

The headline is from an online article of the New York Times published on the 09/Apr/2020. The day after, the article was printed in the 10/Apr/2020 physical issue and that's what I am presenting to you today. Fascinating by this whole story, I have somehow managed to get four copies from the NYTimes back copies department.

https://ibb.co/f8JvHvv
https://ibb.co/ZhgQctD

What do you think these might be valued at?
To be 100% transparent on my trains of thoughts, I have used as reference the 03/Jan/2009 Times (sold for 7.5BTC) because it was the most analogous piece I could think of, but I don't think the value is nearly as close honestly, given:

  • It's not a front page, the article is on page B4 of the Business insert.
  • The title is slightly different from the online version ("FED Puts 2.3 Trillion Behind Programs to Bolster the Economy")
  • It is still a relatively recent piece  (although I doubt anyone could now easily obtain one of these copies from the NYT since the maximum request period is over).

On the other side:
The hidden message in block 629.999 is one of the most iconic commemoration of the 3rd Halvening, a highly meaningful event for an incredible number of reasons, not least, a big Bitcoin FU to FED's monetary policy. The halving message was covered by Forbes (https://www.forbes.com/sites/colinharper/2020/05/11/bitcoins-halving-block-includes-a-message-to-remind-us-why-it-was-created/#50c8e805656a) and celebrated by the most influential Bitcoin personalities (https://twitter.com/lopp/status/1259929075902222345?s=20)

The 10/Apr/20 NYTimes issue is the physical testimony of it and as soon as Bitcoin will become the global reserve currency(Wink), I am strongly convinced all the physical commemorations of halvings will gain incredible historic and collectible appeal.

If I were to start an auction today (not said I will), I would value one of these at 1/100th of the "original Times" market value (around 0.075BTC)
Thoughts? Every feedback is highly appreciated, I am still a newbie after all. Smiley

You are reaching here trying to create hype.

"Chancellor on Brink.." genesis block message written by Satoshi

"NYTimes 09/Apr/2020 With $2.3T Injection, Fed's Plan Far Exceeds 2008 Rescue" written by some random.

Two VERY different things IMO.
Satoshi vs random person / Genesis block vs random pre halving block / A powerful message from the maker vs a fact from a copycat

I believe your 0.075BTC ask is ridiculous.  If you get $50-$100 for some random's comment, consider yourself lucky!

Sorry if the over-enthusiastic tone of my post lead to misunderstandings.
I'm a really looking for feedbacks here, not trying to create hype. My valuation is just subjective and that is why I am not starting off with an auction but asking to the community.

That said, you raised a fair point. The Genesis message is from Satoshi, the NYTimes one is from F2Pools. Despite it being one of the most reputable mining pool out there, it certainly aint' Satoshi.

I'm only comparing the two because I find fascinating the parallels between the two events: gen block and 2008 financial crisis vs 3rd halving and current economic outlook, the ever-inflationary policy lead by the FED vs the hard-set deflationary schedule of BTC.

You will agree that these are truly exceptional times and after the bear market everyone was excited for the halving event. It was an amazing discovery to find out such a message in the block (I think they were trying to include it in the actual 630.000 halving block).

Side note: I learned all of this from much more reputable people than me involved in Bitcoin, it's not a made-up story Smiley

I would compare these to any other magazine/article that are collectible due to the bitcoin reference. You'll find buyers in that area for sure.. value wise currently, under $100.. probably less than $50. You never know though, hang on to a few for yourself! Fast forward 10 years and you'll have a whole new subset of people looking for old rare bitcoin pieces.
