Well, now it makes more sense. With all respect to Rashorfd, in 2020 he haven't made something very significant to become sports personality of year. While Hamilton have great season, he won his 7th World Champion title and reached Shumacher by number of titles. Also, he overtake him by number of races won. These who made bets on Hamilton earlier should make some nice profit.

Lewis hamilton has been on that top list but denied the award every year and I guess this is his year. There are very few of other sports that went on this year and hamilton had been number one for a long time and after wining the Bahrain Grand Prix and missing some due to coronavirus, he would also have some sympathy. It would solid if he came to win another grand prix after covid and before the sports personality is decided.
The odds are very much in his favor, and the other players are far behind. It is unfortunate that he tested positive for COVID 19, which probably means that he needs to pull out of the Abu Dhabi GP. Anyway congratulations for winning the Bahrain Grand Prix last week. Apart from Hamilton, Ronnie OSullivan and Jordan Henderson are also in the race, but their odds are not that favorable.

Lewis Hamilton remains the favorite now. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury has rejected his nomination for the award, saying that he doesn't wish to be in the short list. He requested BBC to take him off the list (which was rejected by the broadcaster). BTW, the voting has also opened for the BBC World Sport Star 2020 award, with Lebron James and Armand Duplantis being the favorites.
Knowing that UK is known for their love of football, I would say it will be Jordan Henderson or cricketer Stuart Broad as my second best. Too bad, Tyson has to drop out, his story is something that evokes emotions.

Too bad, Tyson has to drop out, his story is something that evokes emotions. So I read some articles why he rejected being included in the list and he's reason is simple, he doesn't need validation, he's already the people's champion. That's what he feels in this award. https://www.boxingnews24.com/2020/12/tyson-fury-rejects-bbc-2020-sports-personality-of-the-year-award-competition/Anyway, he is still included in the odds of sportsbet - https://sportsbet.io/sports/specials/sports/bbc-sports-personality-2020

Thanks for an update on Tyson Fury, guys! While he doesn't want to be on the list, BBC said a week ago that he's going to remain there, and I don't see updates since then about other decisions, so I think it's understandable that betting on him is still an option. Lewis hamilton has been on that top list but denied the award every year and I guess this is his year. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't win now, although I remember losing a multi bet on him, so I'm holding a small grudge and thus won't bet on him How about the closest runner-ups right now? Anyone who could actually beat him here? Anyone who deserves the award more in your opinion?

As a snooker fan and a fan of Ronnie O'Sullivan it would be nice that he would win and he also deserves it. He is the best player of all time, won more tournaments than anyone else, made more 147's and centuries than anyone and became world champion for a 6th time this year.

Given the lop-sided odds, it makes no sense to make a bet on Lewis Hamilton now. It may have made sense a few weeks ago, when his odds were >1.50. I still believe that there is still a fair chance that Ronnie O'Sullivan may win the award, but I am not that excited about Jordan Henderson or anyone else. I don't think that Stuart Broad has much of a chance, since last year the award was given to another cricketer (Ben Stokes). O'Sullivan deserves the award, but let's see how it goes.

I have followed Tyson since his comeback and his comeback made a big noise not only in the boxing scene but also in the world sports scenes he made a comeback by beating Wilder whom many thought to be an invincible fighter in the ring, he made headlines and made the British people very proud of him, so I believe he is going to take home the award for this year good motivation for him for his up coming fight.

Actually, it's not a good motivation for him, since he said he didn't even want to be on the list. He claimed he already has the love of the people, so he doesn't need recognition by BBC, even going as far as asking the fans not to vote for him. I wonder why he seems so anti-BBC, what could lead to this. It's not often that people say they don't even want to be considered for an award, right? Moreover, what's the upcoming fight you're talking about? I believe he said he'll be back in 2021, and won't be fighting before then.

Hamilton should be a rock-solid favourite. And his chances will of course be increased by the fact that a lot of major sporting events were cancelled in 2020, no Olympics, no Euro 2020, etc.
Regardless of these, he should be favourite anyway for this year becoming statistically the greatest ever in his sport. But he has suffered here in the past, winning 6 world titles before but only 1 sports personality win... so it's by no means a definite. There is also some establishment backlash against the BLM movement, in which Hamilton has been a prominent figure, so this could also count against him.

I don't know who you're referring to as getting angry with the BLM movement, but I don't think that the BBC is among them. The BBC is tricky to figure out because I read that the left-wing media accuse it of being right-wing, but conservatives say it has left-wing liberal bias. I think it's close to the center, so there's no reason for them to be against the BLM movement. That being said, I don't think any elites within the BBC or elsewhere matter in this situation because it's the public vote that determines the winner of the award, right? I do agree with you that it's not a fact that Hamilton will win, though.
