Does anyone else think cryptocurrency wallets are quite primitive in comparison to bank accounts?

With a bank account:
1. I get notified for each transaction that occurs.
2. I get a transaction history to review what goes in and out of my wallet.

Does a smart wallet with these kinds of features exist? Can you guys think of other features you wish cryptocurrency wallets had? Does my question even make sense or do I have it all wrong?

Using a script you can easily do all these things in any format you want. In fact there are some Telegram bot already exists which will notify you for every transaction. And transaction history is already there with any bitcoin wallet.

With a little research I think your question would find it's answers.

Does a smart wallet with these kinds of features exist?

Did you ever use ... Electrum? At least the desktop version does all this:
* it shows a balloon notification (on my Win10) if a transaction is sent
* the main view shows all the transactions

So what are you talking about?

I mean.. you don't even need a "smart wallet", you just need a typical mobile wallet. Most decent wallets have these features lol.

Here's a good one: https://bluewallet.io/

You can also set up a "watch only" wallet if you have a wallet on your desktop/laptop.

All, or at least most wallets do #2 and show a complete list of transactions.

#1 is a bit more difficult. If you want a SMS or email or some other alert when the wallet is closed or if it's a desktop wallet and you want an alert on your phone that a transaction occurred is nothing that any of them do that I know of.

If it's a mobile wallet then many of them will alert you when something happens.

There are or at least were some apps that monitor the blockchain and will alter you if a transaction happens with an address that you have tagged.

no, they are just completely different because they are treating with an entirely different form of money (assuming when you say "cryptocurrency" you mean bitcoin and similar decentralized ones not the centralized garbage coins).

you can't expect the same exact features as a bank account. with a bank account (centralized) your bank has full control over your money so they let you know when they spent some of it or received more in your place. so there is a centralized authority that can notify you each time.

but with something like bitcoin, YOU are in full control so you also have to listen for notifications yourself. that's the only difference. you can run a full node or an SPV client and keep them running and receive notifications each time you spend or receive some coins.

Cryptocurrency wallets are not comparable to bank accounts because they are not intended to be like that. However you might want to develop it yourself and see how that works out?

Some of the web wallets have features for e-mail notifications if that is what you are looking for. Electrum also integrates with the Windows notification system and sends a toast when transactions are received.

Almost every wallet have a section to where you can check a list of all transactions till date.

Quote

Point is that if you are looking to find every feature in a wallet you are less likely to be satisfied. But question yourself, the necessity of that feature. Developers always want to follow a theme for example: "Most lightweight wallet", "Most secure wallet" - they dont go beyond that and include everything into that piece of software.

Does my question even make sense or do I have it all wrong?
Asking questions is not wrong as long as you remain on point.

Yes but in a situation where security is top priority web wallets are not the perfect wallet to use and the best thing the OP can do is to use a telegram transaction notification bot (like t.me/tracktxbot which work for BTC, BNB, ETH, XRP) or make use of cryptocurrencyalerting which offer email and SMS notification with other alert features (like mempool, blockchain, coin listing alert).

I don't know if the first feature your wrote about can be implemented into any crypto wallet app. The second one is really common. For example, I use Ownr wallet. It shows all transaction history.

I think you don't need to install any wallet for both. you only need to put your Bitcoin address in https://www.blockonomics.co then register email for notification, this is safer than a bank account (primitive) where need to installing the application into your device.

I think he's looking for something like mk mentioned above. OP looks like somebody who want to make transactions regularly and a decent hot wallet should be enough. Unless he does not want to expose his wallet to some mobile devices, and only want to use a HW to sign his transactions, I don't think he needs to register on service like that.

But just in case OP is interested, Magnum Wallet is a good bot for transaction notification. No need to register, just need to input your address.

What are the features you are looking for, many third-party applications provide you with these features (so you are not going to give priority to your privacy.)
im using coinstats and it give me full access to notifications when new transaction happen or with emails.
you can use it with IFTTT.com to have more access like control it with your house (Internet Of things) based on your crypto updates

Smart wallet? Are you looking for a smart watch that holds your private key and notify you every time you receive some coins and whenever you make a transaction? I think you should check out ledger wallet for such experience of getting notified for your transactions received on the address that the ledger wallet holds.
