USDT is a token based on four different blockchains. You can send USDT through Omni layer (which is using bitcoin blockchain), Ethereum blockchain, Tron blockchain and OMG blockchain.
These networks are working completely independent from each other. So, you cannot send USDT token from one of these networks to another network.
TRC-20 tokens are based on TRON network and ERC-20 tokens are based on Etherum network.
The campaign you wish to participate in is using USDT tokens on TRON network. So, they need your TRON address.

you will actually lose your reward as the tron blockchain used the different algo compared with ethereum. You can also compare the address that has already generated by tron and ethereum.

Both were very different especially on its address hash.

When you are sending ethereum token to the tron wallet and your coins will be disappeared as it was not registered on the tron network.
These blockchain have also different mechanism to generate the address too. Basically it's the same USDT but build in the different network and that makes it becomes different.

very simple explanation so hopefully the OP will get his reward according to the address that he sent to the bounty program he is in. also, you can read some tutorials on how to deal with USDT under tron network -
https://tron7010.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034148772-How-to-get-TRC20-USDT-

even exchanges also explain about their difference. however, it is best to use your tron wallet to generate the address

One is on tron network tr20 and the other one is a network of ethereum er20 if they ask for tr20 then just use tron all the time I think all tron wallet can accept your tokens

Trc20 is based on tron blockchain and ERC20 based on Ethereum Blockchain. Now days people are using Trc20 usdt for transfer or sending someone because its cost 0 fees transaction. Which is good for sender and receiver. If you send ERC20 usdt to someone it's charge fees that's why they asking you to send Trc20 usdt wallet address.

The first USDT was released on the Omni blockchain, the cost of withdrawing money from centralized exchanges started at $ 5, and the sending and receiving speed was slow.

Then USDT was issued on the Ethereum network and called USDT-ERC20. Withdrawal costs on centralized exchanges are around $ 4, the cost of remittances on the ethereum network is currently around $ 4, and can be increased or decreased with the network's GAS fees. Send and receive speed is slow.

USDT is issued on the TRONIX (TRON) network called USDT-TRC20. The cost of transferring money on centralized exchanges is free and on the TRONIX network very low (around $ 0.001). The sending and receiving speed is very high.

USDT recently released on OMG blockchain but it is not popular yet, I am not sure about their withdrawal cost and deposit speed.

Of course you will lose it. They have different blockchain, but if you used an exchange address like binance they automatically transform on what blockchain you received the tether either its a erc20 or trc20. But of course itts always better to use non custodial wallet especially for bounty.

They both run on different blockchain networks. One is running on ethereum so the fees is a bit high at the moment and trx 20 is on tron network.

It's the same USDT but for different blockchain ecosystems like.

TRC-20 USDT = USDT on tron chain
ERC-20 USDT = USDT on ETH chain

Similarly they also have USDT on EOS chain, SOLONA, ALGORAND and LIQUID but the most used are ERC20 and TRC20.

platform where it base the TRC20 is base on tron platform  while the ERC20 is base in ethereum platform  they are using different network  That's why you are not able to receive the tokens if they sent it to you using different network.

Just give them the right address they are looking if you want to receive your rewards if you give wrong address you will not receive your balance.

I think this blog will help you to understand more the difference between those tokens .https://support.ccfox.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000957406-Difference-in-Three-USDT-Chain-OMNI-ERC20-and-TRC20

The difference is that the TRC-20 wallet address comes from the TRON platform, while the ERC-20 wallet address is from the Ethereum platform, so they are clearly not wrong because the project team built their token through the TRON platform, so they asked for the TRC-20 wallet address so they can send you tokens when distribution begins.

USDT are supported in different blockchain. Some exchange support ERC20, TRC20 and a third one, I can't recall presently. The ERC20 is USDT on the ethereum network, it has the same address as ethereum. The TRC20, is on the TRON blockchain, it has the same wallet like Tron.

I suppose you have gotten enough clues so i would add my quota.

1. Trc20 usdt address is based on the tron blockchain
2. Erc-20 usdt address is based on the etherum blockchain.

3. You cannot mix up the wallet when you want to send, you send usdt of trc20 - trc20, while you send usdt of erc-20 - erc-20.

Why is trc20 preferred lately?

On most exchange platforms and crypto currency wallets, it costs 0$ to send out trc20 usdt from wallets, and it costs 0$ to withdraw trc20 usdt from exchange platforms too. This is a core reason why trc20 usdt is preferred as etherum blockchain continues to extort transaction charges.

Continue to dyor and trade on your conviction

The two things are clearly different because from the name of the platform it is clear that they are not the same, so there is no different USDT even though it is on two different platforms, so in the future, start understanding this.
