Obviously it is not a good think from a women. In this digital world, it is one kind of foolishness. Some government don't adopt for this kind of activities.
Are you talking about ordering a hitman or paying with cryptocurrency?  Smiley

There is no killer...   Undecided It's a scam. People that kill don't work on the internet.

There are thousands of murder cases that have been ordered on the internet. In forums, marketplaces, etc. This is very common. Cases that have been documented and tried with thousands of evidence.

Of course, most of these offers are scam. People trying to deceive others. But this is everywhere. The point is that a murderer is not able to kill thousands of people on demand. usually someone who wants to offer these services kills no more than 5 people. In general, people ask for someone with some proximity. An ex-security guard, a known ex-police officer, etc. When this possibility does not exist, He will search on the internet.

What does not exist are specific murder marketplaces that are reliable. Obviously, successful isolated cases may have occurred. But most of these marketplaces are scams. The big problem to be solved is the question of the oracle. In a negotiation between two parties, if one decides to deceive the other, we need a third party to decide who is right.

There are thousands of projects on track to offer this oracle without human interference. A decentralized oracle. It is an opportunity, but also a great risk.

A woman has been arrested in the United States for hiring a killer with bitcoin  Shocked Shocked Shocked
This is not the first time i am hearing a news about wife and ex wife hiring a killer, Dalia Mohammed case was a media sensation as all her communications were recorded and she hired an undercover cop to kill her husband and another news which hit the headlines recently was the wife of a  footballer Emre Belözoğlu put a hit on him after he filed for divorce and in this case the ex wife tried to hire a hitman in 2016 and it was revealed to the authorities by an convict.

According to coindesk  Thirty-six-year-old Kristy Lynn Felkins has been summoned to court on charges of paying 12 bitcoins ($ 5,000 at the time) for trying to hire a killer to kill his ex-wife. The case is said to be related to another case involving the recruitment of a killer. It is worth noting that this killer was not hired in the end.

I've heard a lot of things about hiring a killer in deep web thing where you could pay bitcoin to some illegal things or something like hiring a killer. Well, killing your ex-husband? seriously? Maybe he falls into a trap or someone offers this to him and the woman just takes the offer because she wants to kill her ex-husband. I'm sure that the authorities could tract a lot of these transactions because of a lot of their trusted sources. But 5000$ was a big amount of bitcoin  Grin just invest it instead of using it in killing.

A woman has been arrested in the United States for hiring a killer with bitcoin  Shocked Shocked Shocked

A Nevada woman has appeared in federal court on charges of paying $ 5,000 in bitcoin to a killer to kill her ex-husband.

According to coindesk Thirty-six-year-old Kristy Lynn Felkins has been summoned to court on charges of paying 12 bitcoins ($ 5,000 at the time) for trying to hire a killer to kill his ex-wife.

I have read this thread a couple of times and I am sorry for being to practical on correctness of the words used for it is supposedly a news article so every single word matters because a misused word can lead up to confusion considering this is a news article. I know it was stated in the subject that a woman is arrested due to criminality of hiring a killer using Bitcoin but that just not ends in there. I am reading the entire article not just the title all alone and what I can say that to avoid plagiarism this thread of yours have undergone paraphrasing which leads to interchanging words resulting to errors.

I'm not saying you copy-pasted this post, but since it sounds quite as if you did, you should add the source to your article, if not you will be banned for plagiarism.

I have added the source. Sorry you did not read it:

Also, it is not enough just citing on where it came from for you still must have provided the news article so that we can see the overall article itself that includes the whole story about this case. Citing where it came from must always include URL that is linked to the article to support this thread. Overall, this is really an awful scenario on how people is becoming pathetic to hire killers and using Bitcoin as a tool to make transactions to come up on doing this.

Seems like an old article? 12 bitcoins which equated to $5000, at today's price, 12 bitcoins should go for around more than $100,000. Sides, even if we do say that the woman got it since she didn't hide her address, that was years ago when not much was really being paid attention to the security or privacy of addresses of most people. Plus, oddly enough, it's either the killer met up with the woman herself and transferred BTC directly, or through address, but in that case, the killers should also know who the woman is. If that was the case, kind of stupid from the side of the woman who hired the killer.

It's because the supposedly crime happen years ago, that's why 12 bitcoins is $5k then.

Of course it is a scam and she feel for it, the bad thing is that she was caught will all the info. We also have to give kudos to the hackers who help the agent in this case. Here is the court documents: https://www.justice.gov/usao-edca/press-release/file/1319781/download

Well, I think this is one of the article that the OP came from the topic. [ https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/nevada/articles/2020-09-26/nevada-woman-accused-of-bitcoin-murder-for-hire-plot ]

This is not new, even fiat money has the same cases as this. Perhaps social media again trying to spread FUD news to have an effect on the price. Everyone have a choice in making crime and it is involved either crypto or fiat money are the same. But why if the crypto are involved they keep spreading on it. I dont like an article like this, perhaps I suspected that the whales doing this for the price manipulation.

So what? would you label bitcoin as a bad tool?

I think this information will not give much to bitcoin and an overview from other to bitcoin. Using bitcoin is like you use money in you whole day now, you can't judge and give a bad assesment into bitcoin and tell them to another people now, they have known bitcoin well.

There is, but negotiations broke down. If what @TedMosby's link is actually the article op has said, then negotiations broke down after the killer tried to offer more expensive ways to kill someone. Seeing that OP and the link provided pertain to the same woman, it should be the same story OP has said.

It got necroed by some twitter "news" handles and it took off, anyway, I saw this earlier today in one such profile. I mean I'm all for bitcoin chatter either way.

Nowadays people are losing their human nature, it can very easily decide to kill someone. For me kill flies already feel guilty,
moreover reading articles like the opening post, gives me the creeps to read articles like this. Actually this happened because
the person couldn't control his emotions, because anger can make us unable to think logically. But related to hiring a killer with
Bitcoin is not new in my opinion, there have been several similar instances too.

A woman has been arrested in the United States for hiring a killer with bitcoin  Shocked Shocked Shocked
--snip---
coindesk

First, it is better to enclosure the lin source of this news. I know that you didn't copy paste and plagiarize the ar5ticle. However, it will help us and more trusted if enclsuring the source.
I have searched the news and probably it is here:
https://www.coindesk.com/nevada-woman-charged-in-bitcoin-murder-for-hire-as-a-mystery-hacker-again-turns-tipster

It is very This crime has been started in spring 2016 but it was failed.
First of all, I want to say that this incident was truly inhuman and outrageous. Whatever the cause, a wife is willing to spend a lot of money to kill a man who is none other than her ex-husband. Isn't this an outrageous thing but we can't turn on the woman because we don't know the exact trauma or problem that triggered this premeditated murder.

Next, regarding how to pay the killer using Bitcoin. I hope that the emphasis on Bitcoin shouldn't be too high. because here it is just like any other contract murder. Where they use money or other valuables as compensation for crimes they have committed.
Bitcoin is just a manner that those irresponsible people use. Right now if that happens, maybe not many people will think negatively about Bitcoin. because anything can be used as a guarantee for him. Someone might use BTC, money, gold, and more when they want to hire hitmen like this.

The data provided by the hacker to the judiciary has similar implications to another case that federal agents are investigating. This case is also related to a killer recruitment website in Dark Web.
This is precisely what is very dangerous. However, such is the one on the dark Web and we, as before, still can't do much with the site.
If they make recruitment like that, of course, it is not only in one country. Maybe it could be an international crime. This must be immediately acted upon and eradicated.

I do not want to comment on the law and punishment that the woman should pay. But, I really want to make sure that we may never think that BTC is used for crimes only. This depends on the owners whether going to use it for crimes or not. As many criminals also use BTC for money laundry or even other crimes.

This is a disappointing case. So many good things that can be done with Bitcoin and make them stand out anywhere in the world and people create hell by doing illicit acts like this. Fortunately, the case was not carried out, As the article says, people have a wrong concept about the anonymity of Bitcoin.

Yes. This can do a lot of damage to the character and face of Bitcoin.
I just hope that these things will be lessened one day so that the people of the world will become more familiar with the true face of Bitcoin.

It is true.
We see thousands of types of cash violations every day, however, why does it not spoil its face ??
Perhaps the only thing to consider is that cash has been around for hundreds of years, but bitcoin has only just entered the economy for a few years.
Let me give you an example:
A child who has just entered a school gets into fights with everyone and steals and ...
The manager also warns the child or fires him.
But another child who has been in school for several years and knows how to steal and break without the principal complaining to him.

This was a conceptual example.

I've heard a lot of things about hiring a killer in deep web thing where you could pay bitcoin to some illegal things or something like hiring a killer. Well, killing your ex-husband? seriously? But 5000$ was a big amount of bitcoin  Grin just invest it instead of using it in killing.

Someone who has spent so much money really could have made a good investment with all of it. Or he could have done other important things.
This is where it is said that money does not make sense. Cool Wink

For this woman, making a contract to someone in the darkweb to hire a killer is already a sin. Look she was still hoping that it will go as plan, but look at how the scammers did to her, ask for more money. And then someone leaked the information to the authorities getting here arrested and for sure going to jail for her actions here, very stupid. As far as bitcoin, it's dark market, people only transact their using crypto what do you expect? But it doesn't mean that bitcoin is going to be used for this purposes only, it's just part of the equation.

I dont see whats the news here. The way i see it, woman used money to hire killer , as bitcoin is money. Its not like she used potatoes or corn to pay the killer, that would be a news though.

It's a shame that people consider murder to deal with personal issues. It's good that the killer wasn't hired, though. As for Bitcoin, I don't think the means of payment should be emphasized. What's bad is the killer part, not the Bitcoin part. But when Bitcoin is mentioned in such stories, the content of the story casts a shadow on BTC reputation as well. As if killers aren't hired with USD.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with this incident. Consider that she could have paid fiat to the killer too. The focus should not be on what is paid to the killer, the main point is women who did this wrong thing by hiring a killer. I don't think coin desk should emphasize on this story much as it is not related to crypto currencies.
Well, since bitcoin is mentioned, they published it. And another story where bitcoin is involved in a wrong doing. If people would read this just by reading the headline, some ignorants would think that bitcoin is really and only used for such acts. Funny some people think that crypto like bitcoin is used only for misdeeds and not thinking that fiat is also used to pay murderers or criminals.
