One still needs to encrypt her/his backups before storing them in the cloud.

Restore your backup wallet.dat.  You did make a backup BEFORE transferring funds to a wallet right?

No. I thought myself immune to such problems. Hard lesson learned.

It's not a hard lesson (unless it's something that took you an eternity to mine). You only lost 1.5.

But yes, you must always back things up.

Its a hard lesson considering that I have never ever spent a penny on crypto. All my holdings were mined or earned.
