to keep it simple i will use viabtc payment figures for

eth
0.0281 per mh. a 100 watt amd rx 5600 can do about 40 mh or 1.12 usd before power

btc
0.0724 per th a 3300 watt s19pro can do about 110th or 7.96 usd before power cost.

the issue with the info above is many dont know how to compare the two.

so i am going to attempt to simplify a comparison for you.

i will use

1 s19pro
2 s17pro
5 card amd 5600 xt rig

cost
1 s19pro about 2800 usd
2 s17pro about 2200 usd
five card amd rig about 1600 usd

power
s19pro about 80kwatts a day 2400kwatts a month
2 s17pro about 120kwatts a day 3600kwatts a month set to turbo
amd rig about 15kwatts a day  450 kwatts a month.

power cost monthly
s19 pro.  240 usd at ten cent power. 120 usd at five cent power
s17 pro.  360 usd at ten cent power. 180 usd at five cent power 2 units
amd rig.   45 usd at ten cent power.  22.50 usd at five cent power

hash rate
s19pro 110th
s17Pro. 114 th on turbo
5 card rx5600 rig 200mh

earnings pre power
s19pro 7.96 daily.       238.92 monthly
s17pro  8.25 daily.      247.50 monthly
5 card rig 5.62 daily.    168.60 monthly

so as of sept 29

s19pro

238.92- 240.00  loss of 1.08 at 10 cent power
238.92- 120.00 gain of 118.92 at 5 cent power

s17pro
247.50-360 loss of 112.50 at 10 cent power
247.50-180 gain of   67.50 at 5 cent power

5card rig

168.60 - 45.00= 113.60 gain at 5 cent power.
168.60 - 22.50 = 146.10 gain at 5 cent power

so on sept 29 mining eth with a gpu rig wins over mining btc with an asic

also mining eth with a gpu rig at nicehash autovert to btc wins over directly mining btc with an asic.

I will revisit this  in a week.

Amazing!

Clear and Simple explanation!
Years later I still learn from you philipma1957, I don't know how to say thanks!

On the other side, it looks like the right time to re-start mining..... 1 rig at a time this time! (learning from 2018!)

Please keep the thread updated as much as you can, that compare is really interesting.

with the new leg up in GPU tech, the gap with ETH asic mining vs ETH gpu mining is now very close.

since litecoin days we never seen a coin that grew to millions to billions of market capitalization where GPU mining was kicked out since the beginning of ETH.

ETH plan to move to POS is waste of such a feat in terms of mining with commodity hardware (GPUs) for a coin who resisted ASIC mining dominance.

My goal is 1 day a week.

so Oct 6 would be next update.

now to keep it simple It will just be :

eth with 5x amd 5600xt

btc with 2x  s17 pro
btc with 1x  s19 pro

five cent power and ten cent power

to all if you don't want to hodl eth you can either use a pool like nice hash to auto convert to btc.

or use a different auto convert pool

full disclosure I manage 50 gpus mixed nvidia and amd  almost all mine eth at nicehash.
1 rig mines progpow at nicehash

I also manage 4.5gh of asic ltc
and lastly 1.7ph of asic btc

watt earning power is critical to know how to manage gear.

right now
gpu to eth
or
gpu to eth to btc

has the best bang for the watt by far.

@ Arielbit eth has no pressing need to drop gpu mining at the moment so most likely they will
(joke I hope)
