I'm hoping someone can shed some light over this issue. I initiated a transfer of 400 USDT from my Bitfinex account to my Coinbase Wallet (soft wallet, not account) USING OMG Network. I thought I was using the new network to avoid ERC20 congestions and overcharges. Well, apparently not worth it.
The transaction was sent on August 22, the OMG Network blockchain confirmed the transaction (see link below) but the money never showed in my Coinbase Wallet. I opened 2 tickets to Coinbase with this issue which were never answered, although I contacted them several times on twitter as well. Anyone can give me any ideas what I should try?  Cry

Coinbase doesn't support USDT.

It means you lost that 400USDT which may be refunded to you if coinbase wants but it has really 0.0001% of becoming possible.

Costly lesson for you.

Despite the fact that $ 400 is a considerable amount, there is still a great chance that the money will not be returned to you.  It remains to hope that they will still see your question and try to help.

You sent your USDT to the 'wrong wallet'. Coinbase does not support USDT, so your funds are stuck and only coinbase support can help you recover it, since you've already contacted them without any positive results, the next option is just to drag them out on their social handles and see if you could draw their attention to your case, if coinbaae still remains reluctant to assist, then sorry, your 400 USDT is lost.

Going forward, when you're sending funds to custodial exchange wallets, double check if they support the coin or not, cause since it's a custodial wallet, you don't have your keys, so you'll need supports assistance in the case of any problem, and as you can see they will likely not help out.

This is real. Sorry for your loss but Coinbase might reply to you and will just say the same thing and there will be no refund.

Look to the note on the "About Tether"

https://www.coinbase.com/price/tether

Coinbase Wallet can only store supported cryptocurrencies and DApps. Sending or receiving unsupported assets through Wallet will cause you to lose them.

Thanks for answers guys. I knew Coinbase account doesn't support USDT, but I'm using Coinbase Wallet, which is a software wallet different than my coinbase exchange account. It's the equivalent of Metamask, Trust Wallet, etc.

Here below is a screen capture of my wallet, it definitely supports USDT, I have a small amount in it.

There are 3 different blockchains for USDT , Omni , TRC20, and ERC20 , each of them has a different algorithm for addressing, If you want to transfer it for example through ERC20 , you ,must make sure the reciver address is USDT ERC20 also, it starts with 0x , transfering in diffrent sender and reciver blockchain for ex erc20 to trc20 could make you lose money .

Yeah, that's probably what happened, I sent it through OMG Network to a ERC20 address. But how come Bitfinex (the source) didn't warn me it's not a valid address for OMG Network?

If the question about the warning from the exchange doesn't exist, then you can also submit it again at the exchange support section, and wait for their answer and also ask about a valid wallet for OMG, because this has already happened.

Also in the blockchain details below it shows that I had a sum of 989 USDT from which I sent 400 USDT to my wallet. It split the amount, sent 400 USDT to my wallet and 589 USDT back to the source. Both wallet addresses are with 0x..., the 589 USDT got back, the 400 USDT vanished

Alright. We have now an idea and you got it and has been mentioned too southerngentuk that it's a different transport protocol.

But how come Bitfinex (the source) didn't warn me it's not a valid address for OMG Network?
Bitfinex has an answer for that.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that the transfer of assets to a Bitfinex account is done correctly.

They've bolded that part.

Coinbase can return your funds, be cause they have the private keys.

Will they do it? Probably not  because that is costly and risky for them.

Do you have a seed or private keys? If you have, you can recover the funds. If not, if it is in coinbase exchange wallet, you need their action

Maybe you lost your 400 USDT on Omg network. You should take lessons from it. I lost some Tron USDT to deposit in Tron address instead of Tron USDT address. Exactly the same problem but different is exchange and wallet. You should contact Coinbase admin or mail address. Although if you withdraw USDT ERC-20 tokens, you will lose the whole funds as now.

Man you just lost 400 USD, that’s a really big amount  Sad. Have you tried this before, why did you send that amount to an exchange when you’re not sure how the exchange works? Every exchange and wallet works differently, and I tell people it’s always best to send USDT to a wallet if it’s stated on exchange that they are accepting that particular token, if it’s not there, then don’t it or you’re going to lose your money. And from what I understood, this is your first time of doing this.

Why didn’t you send a little amount to check if it goes through, and if it does, you can then send the remaining? Now I don’t think you’re getting it back.

I had a sad experience of incorrect transfer of BURST from the poloniex exchange to bittrex where I forgot to fill in the message field as a result, the coins were not displayed on the balance in my wallet it was the end of 2017 and the solution of the issue lasted for more than 4 months, after contacting the Better Business Bureau and opening a complaint about actions by bittrex, the coins were returned, but during this time, from 1.5 BTC, their value fell to 0.35 BTC. I think you should continue contacting coinbase support and seek a refund.

Yes thats the only solution that will work. It's only up to them if they will give it back to you or not but always ask to your lost balance every time you contact them by a support ticket .

Yes, I do have the seed to the wallet. But how is that gonna help me recover the funds? The funds didn't make it to my wallet.

You can have it back easily if you have full access to your wallet ,but since you are using 3rd party Wallet the solution is  to contact wallet support they are the only person that can help you to recover your funds.

My guess is:
Your USDT is not vanished, it's just stuck at the bitfinex's integration address. Somehow I found out that you sent 999 USDT, whereas you only sent 400. I am sure your USDT was never sent to your coinbase address because the two have different networks. You should contact bitfinex support about this issue.

But how come Bitfinex (the source) didn't warn me it's not a valid address for OMG Network?
Most exchanges/wallets do not provide a specific warning, just a kind of "confirm destination address correctly".

This space for rent.

I had 989 USDT in Bitfinex and sent only 400 to Coinbase Wallet. I guess the network took all of that 989, split it into 2 packets, sent 589 back to Bitfinex (which I got back) and 400 was sent to Coinbase (which I never got). I filed a ticket first with Bitfinex and they said the money left from their end and showed me the confirmation in the blockchain, which I shared here and also shared with Coinbase.

Yesterday I filed a complaint with BBB against Coinbase, for not answering my 2 tickets in 1.5 months and requested to get my 400 USDT in the wallet. I'll see what comes out of that.

As coinbase doesn't support USDT deposit so you may have lost your funds. Before seding any tokens to any wallet or exchange, you have to check carefully but you missed. This is your lessons. Like you, i have lost my balance few times with sending wrong address. So be careful from now about transaction.
