Election season, can't biometrics and blockchain be used for fair elections?

With the Presidential elections coming up in the United States of America, it's time for the popular and cliche accusations by both parties, Russia intervened, elections are rigged and what not.  I think eventually it's just the people at the receiving end and a ton of tax payers money going down the drain.

This makes me wonder why we aren't using blockchain technology powered with biometrics and blockchain for elections. Elections play a very important role in upholding the values of democracy. If the election process is not transparent, secure and tamper proof then the reliability and authenticity of whole process is at stake.

Biometrics can be combined with blockchain so that there is no multiple voting by the same person or impersonation. Use of blockchain can ensure tamper proof process. I came across interesting models of public blockchain that can be utilized for this. Take the example of Concordium. They claim to have "regulatory compliance" by design and privacy and verification of users' identity. What this essentially means is, even thought it's a public blockchain there is still an option for enabling privacy so that the concept of secret ballot is upheld. So one can verify that the votes were cast but at the same time, we cannot know to whom it was cast.

Academic Research being conducted shows that they have provable and fast finality as an advantage which can be suited for enterprise level scale so this might sure be useful for Elections. When we have such options, I wonder why we aren't using it yet.

I think public blockchains need to push further for greater awareness and provide solutions to real world problems. Then people will start seeing blockchain and crypto beyond the misinformation that it is being used for evil purposes.

Blockchain is a boon and only when we use it for useful purposes can we realize its full potential. We might have more public chains that can probably get involved in proving solutions for such real issues.

We should even have ways to incentivize people for casting a vote, this will encourage all citizens from coming out and participating in a vibrant democracy.

A car boot full of ballots -- bought for $800 a vote (or for nothing at all)

Project Veritas has an insider, they have footage of a man bragging that he has a car full of empty ballots. They have an insider explaining how the system works for mass ballot harvesting.
