You are right. But I see many people don't have the patience to wait for the price increase, and they will sell their bitcoin fast if the price is down. They are worried if they lose their money in bitcoin when the price is down, making them sell before the price goes down deeper. Perhaps, they need to learn about patience and not panic if the bitcoin market down because the price will increase. If they can use bitcoin as a long term investment, and still buying bitcoin when the price reaches a low price, I think they will have a chance to have more bitcoin.

Govt. currencies either don't survive quite a while or loose the majority of their value after some time. It is the most promising investment these days since bitcoin is totally growing in this industry. But, you have to remember that bitcoin is not a quick investment that when you put your money here it will grow right away. I have kept it since the bitcoin price panic on the mtgox hack in early 2014, so I still hold on to it today, because I believe the price will really be high and won't sell it, but for profit I usually take moments when there is an interesting altcoin I will trade for short term, I prefer investing as long term

In terms of profitability and comparing it to different investments, Bitcoin is one of the best investment choice to earn money right now.
Now the question is, can you withstand the volatility of it because not all of the investors can see their portfolio going down. Some of them are panicking when they see their holdings going down and therefore they are being forced to sell it at a loss. Bitcoin can give you a huge profit but at the same time it can give you a huge loss too. Risk management is the key.
