I just came across this giveaway for a new casino and was considering applying on the thread to get some Free Spins. But then it got my thinking. Is it allowed to host and participate in on-forum giveaways that reward users with things such as Free Spins for slots.

- It is not an altcoin giveaway.
- it is also not a Bitcoin giveaway.
- It is an on-forum giveaway that requires incentivized posting of usernames (might be considered spam, low quality post, etc).

Can users participate in these activities without fear of being banned. I am asking for a friend.

Pmalek, I’m pretty sure you can enter that giveaway without fear of being banned. As far as I’m aware, only altcoin giveaways are a bannable offence.

I didn't think giveaways were loferated much, that rule seems more for when things get too out of hand.. Especially if the gambling section it's announced in has the improved bumping system then it's probably no longer a problem.

Bitcasino.io did an altcoin giveaway a number of months ago & dozens were banned for 2 weeks. theymos later reduced the bans but I certainly wouldn’t go entering any altcoin giveaways any time soon

That's because of these rules, related to the Altcoin section:

14. All altcoin related discussion belongs in the Alternate cryptocurrencies and it's child boards.
15. No on-forum altcoin giveaways. (further info below)

Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections. From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.

Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here.

The giveaway is free spin. What I understand is that the board only allows bitcoin giveaway. They are asking to post username only in the forum in exchange for x number of free spins.

I have seen the cases where users were banned to participate in the giveaways which were not bitcoin giveaways so considering the experience I will not risk myself joining that kind of giveaways unless any mod gives a green signal here.

PS: I think the original no altcoin giveaway was meant to stop all those ICO spammers in the early days when every single day there were dozens of new ICOs were popping up. But now things has changed. Some of these altcoin giveaway are not that overwhelming. We need a new direction I guess.

The reason things have changed is because of the rule, not despite it.

I expect the Altcoin section to reach a new low of depravity should the rule be rescinded: it enables scammers to simply advertise their token/coin/flubbogastor-extractinator for the low low cost of zero (minus development costs of a few dollars). That's why bounties are still rampant - it's the airdrop that topics can use for easy traffic, minus the ban.

You have a point here.

Looking at the past, seeing the number of users got banned even the experience ones, the rule seems not much clear for many. Or perhaps people do not pay much attention in it because it does not look like something breaking a common thing we do.

My point was to ease it. Comparing the old time and now, we have users who are very active reporting spammers so once anything goes out of control and spam is clearly there, I think the community will take care of it.

7 months ago, there are many familiar users in gambling were temp banned because of giveaways. Later theymos removed some of those bans but because it takes time to resolve and it is 7-days temp ban so some members simply waited for their ban expiration.
As many others I'm banned for 7 days

I agree with strict bans on altcoin giveaways because scam developers don't spend any sort of significant funds to create their projects and simply use their scam altcoins (from premined, developer allocation) to run bounties, catch eyes and capital flow then steal money from people.

Forum has a good detective network so those bump, zero-value posts will be reported and bumpers will be nuked.

With Bumping changes, their shitposts have no power to bump ANN threads in Altcoin boards. Bump services use newbies or brand new accounts that are useless now. Service owners don't use high rank accounts and take risks of account bans. If they use high rank accounts, they have to make more time to make posts. Sometimes it can cause plagiarism. 

On the kind of giveaway threads, I think most of those who response are the same shills that they hire. No sensible user like us are not going to post their info to get a coin which worth nothing, and they know it very well.

They are lazy, greedy and hope too much on new projects.

If anyone starts exploiting a giveaway thread then eventually the other users will spot it, and they will start reporting it as a result users will be nuked so no harm. But those which are genuine giveaways will be benefited.

Okay, but you run into the issue of introducing more to the workload of the moderation team for the sake of the few altcoin giveaways that are "okay".

Rather than a strict policy, now moderators have to take a look at things - whether there are helpful forum members or not, a report still requires a moderator's discretion when it comes to action - thus making it more difficult to manage the Altcoin sections. They're already bad enough: nearly every single thread in the discussion board is just absolute garbage and should be locked and trashed, and now reinserting giveaways only for the sake of a few?

I think it's something that would create more issues than resolutions.

For some reason, I don't wanna join any giveaways because there is no warning if you get caught by the moderators because the rules have said it all. I participated in some kind of giveaway a few months ago and got banned for a week. I don't know if it's was this kind of giveaway but nevertheless, giveaway might or might not be allowed in some cases. so I am turning away if I see one because the second time might not be 7 days banned anymore, It could be 14 days or more.

I do not disagree with you but I have different view.
We can always have more manpower if it requires then cutting up the budget. As far as I know we do not have to worry about the money for the forum. So, if this is more work for current number of mods then hire some more. Besides I like the idea of paying moderation based on the report they handled so every sats the forum is paying is not a waste. The mods are not getting paid by not doing anything.

I like the idea of handing more by the administration and give more benefit to the users, after all the users are the one who runs a community.

That is correct. They are not giving away any altcoins, however, they are also not giving away Bitcoin. And only Bitcoin giveaways are allowed in Games & Rounds. The reason why I am asking is because of the requirement that you need to post your email or casino ID to be rewarded the Free Spins. I would like to hear whether admins would consider that a low effort incentivized spam post?

You were probably one of the members who got banned for participating in the crypto giveaway by Bitcasino.
If I remember the case correctly, they were rewarding members with different coins each week. Bitcoin, Tron, Ethereum, and Litecoin. Admins decided to ban those who took part in the weeks when altcoins were given away. Everyone who participated in the Bitcoin giveaway were fine.

On this thread a lot of us supported the idea but you can not expect the same from theymos. Or maybe he is on the same page as us. Theymos is a Intel® Celeron® Processors (remember those old days desktop computers with the very basic PC) :-P

Based on some of the replies here, it's mainly to prevent abuse of those XYZ tokens of little to no value.

But I agree with you that alts such as ETH should be fine since that restriction set by theymos was made years back.
