My experience as a newbies in ICO/IEO

My journey and experience in the cryptocurrency space started early 2016 when I first hard about bitcoin and some time late 2016 I decided to give it a try, as an early adaptor I invested some couple of dollars in bitcoin. And in 2017  made as significant profits from my investment and I decided to invest in other altcoins which also gave me so much turn over, it was all good until the year 2018 when the market noise dive into deep crash and that also come with a lot of lesson's which I will like to share them with us 1 of them is never to get greedy once you make some profits just pull it out and move ahead and again never invest in over hype projects because lots of them never make it good in the market. And when it comes in to buying into a new project I advice you wait until the project hit the exchange because over 50% of the ICO today sale below their ICO price on the exchange market so best you buy from exchange.

Hyped projects usually result in loss as soon as the hype settles down so basically what everyone needs to do is never get into fomo and never chase the new projects blindly even the current defi trend teaches us the samething. Also we should always keep in mind that all these investments are high risk and the project may close, fail or scam anytime especially if has low to no use cases.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the community. Like you, I got into crypto around the same time and experienced similar gains like you did and since it was my first time, I got carried a way and didn't took profits when they were on the table. One important lesson I learnt is the fact that, Its good to be an investor with trader instincts. Regardless of what the project team promises, it is not recommended to just hold cryptos blindly with the hope that the value would 5x or 10x just because you're hodling it. It doesn't that because at the end of the day, market forces always prevail.

People who doesn't use stops lose money and eventually stop trading.

This is why it is important to have some trading experience evenif you're just an investor.

There's still a lot of ico projects are exist in the market. Just visit icodrop and then you will see a lot of legit icos are still alive.

There's still a lot of ico projects are exist in the market. Just visit icodrop and then you will see a lot of legit icos are still alive.

Aside from icodrop you can visit also the following sites and you will see there are still active ICO projects going on. But here in the forum, seems they are fading away already. Maybe people here in the forum have had enough and don't want to be screwed anymore by these ICOs.

Even IEOs are slowing down because people are into DeFi hype these days. But whether ICO, IEO or DeFi, people should always do their due diligence before sending any penny to these projects.

Thank you for that share. Likewise, everyone has their fair share during 2017 and this is for bitcoin holders and sold during the ATH. And a mistake for those who have made it from bitcoin yet decided to invest in projects during the bear market because they thought that it's going to be fruitful even there's already a clue and sign of the bearish turnover. It is very true and relatable that never be greedy with your investments, the ATH made us greedy and thought that it can go as much has 200%-1000% gain but I have learned my lesson too.

You are active since 2016 and I am sure that you are no longer a newbie here. I am also one of the ones that followed the hype of the crypto world in 2017. Where there are so many successful ICO at that time before dumping al the time until now. 

Btw, ICO is now no longer trusted and people will leave it. IEO is still ongoing and probably will be left soon.
'Now, Defi is kind of Hype and many people and newcomers are here for Defi. They may have gained very high profits at that time. but, as the hype in 2017, we do not know the exact time of this hype will end, or it will be different from previous hype. let's see the flow.

But, I do agree with you that never getting in the hype too much. Choosing coins in the market is also important to consider whether the coins are in hype or not. I personally have learned from the previous hype and not a concern about the hype coins again right now.

My experiences when I first started was really a roller coaster ride. Most of the experience I have now from ICOs are from my failure. I remember buying out of FOMO and being inable tp save the recovery files for the wallet where I lost almost $400 of investment reall quick. Losing my funds due to being negligent of not keeping my wallet secured and investing in scam ICOs. All of this are lessons that I still apply whenever I join any projects.

Yes, there are stilll project that do there initial offering through ICO and if you check the altcoin bounty section you will see some of them there but they did some modifications in how they introduce themselves to the public so that naive investors wont understand their initial offering was run through ICOs

No, not only ICO alone because 97% of all new coins are hype base and the coins usually experience dump when they are  listed on exchange but if the team involve have good strategy to help the coin surge in price the coin will be save thats what Uniswap does about their UNI.

No, not only ICO alone because 97% of all new coins are hype base and the coins usually experience dump when they are  listed on exchange but if the team involve have good strategy to help the coin surge in price the coin will be save thats what Uniswap does about their UNI.

In case of UNI, the team has a lot of Big company as backer for funding the Exchange during there experimental phase. They don't have any ICO and just airdrop there token to exchange user that's why they can maintain the price because the token is spread on investors unlike ICO that whales are buying the majority of supply during Presale and private sale that result to easy manipulation of the price.

I like your last word, the best buy from the exchange. Over 80 percent of projects are being traded below ICO price. We can take low price opportunities or low profits after the ICO. Now the DeFi trend is a good opportunity. We are all in huge profits before 2018. You invested in the cryptocurrency exactly the right time. Maybe you can see the same situation this year to invest.

I thought that not many people are investing into these already or its just that I'm not following it since I'm not investing into other projects.

Well, thanks for your advice. That will help some newbies to decide whether they will invest into new projects or not. For me, investing into projects that have been there for a long time would be better. Invest into Bitcoin though .

Oh well, we have different lessons learned investing in cryptocurrency.
 If we don't fall, we won't be success and we wont learn significantly. Those times  2016 wherein you bought bitcoin at a lower price definitely gave you profits when it boomed 2017. But, it is not always the gains we have to learn here. Since volatility exists and we must learn how to be patiently hold until price goes up again 'coz that's how it goes in crypto world.
 
 And for that ICO, sometimes its good to buy at PRE ICO SALE before launching it to the cryoto exchanges.

It is true that is why I don't invest in ICO and IEO because most of them wouldn't get listed in exchange or even if they could their price couldn't really make it to their offering price.
So even if they could make it in exchange your investment wouldn't still give you profit since their price is too low even if you add up your early investors bonus in it.

Remember you must be careful even when you are buying it on the exchange site and when you were taking the wrong position and then it can be a boomerang for you. There will always be an early pump for the coins after it has already listed on the exchange site. We must always try to avoid to deal or shorting the coin when it was getting pumped at the new high position.
Even when you were taking it below the ico price didn't mean if the performance of coin will be good in the future.

Unfortunately, it will take more than a couple of publicly known scams to get rid of ICOs, simply because this is a working system to start a project, a good one as well.
Hopefully, we'll manage to avoid scams and ICO will be a good thing once again

Most of the ico ever since 2018 if they didn't hit the soft cap target they usually had an alibi but the truth is they never tell the truth to their community were in the end they've run away until they disappeared something like that. So for now it still happens to some of the projects but not like just happened late 2018.

you are lucky at least to make profit in 2017 hype,because that is one of my regrets since all of my profits goes into gambling and lose.
but that is a best lesson we can have,Not to become greed and start to appreciate small profit at least those are sure than looking for much then lose the next day.

Unfortunately, it will take more than a couple of publicly known scams to get rid of ICOs, simply because this is a working system to start a project, a good one as well.
Hopefully, we'll manage to avoid scams and ICO will be a good thing once again

if you are not ready to lose then never invest in any ICo because for sure you will only regret those.
