How to report the scammers to registrar

Greetings,
Recently, I saw many scammers and frauds cloning the other websites (specially hype/ponzi websites) to create a new fraudulent website less than a few hours with a different name. Many scam detectors are exposing these websites here on forum. But unfortunately, there are many of them and still, there many new people trusting these websites. The best thing to do here is to report these websites to the domain registrar and hope they get down soon before anyone get into the trap.
In this little guide here, I'm going to explain about how to report the scam and fraudulent websites to their registrar effectively. Since these websites are usually using namecheap(External link) as registrar, I'm going to explain about this one specifically. However, the progress is the same for the other ones usually.

Know their domain registrar:
1. In order to detect the domain registrar, you can use WhoIs services maybe the most famous one is (http://who.is - External link).
2. Fill the box with the website's URL and click on the blue magnifier button to search.

3. After fetching the results, check the registrar info section. Here you can find useful information such as registrar name. In this case the registrar is namecheap.


First Method:
1. Visit (https://support.namecheap.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit - External link) in order to submit your report.
2. Go for "Abuse Reports" and then check click on "Fraud / Phishing" (Look at the picture bellow).

3. Click "Next".
4. On next page, please fill the for with correct information. According to the namecheap rules, they will need some screenshot from the website. Don't forget to attack the files. Also, if you've been targeted by them you can send them the receipts for more information.
5. In order to track the progress of your report, you can check your email. Also, if you create an account on namecheap website you can track the progress of your request there.

Alternative Method:
As an alternative method, if you are usually reporting many websites and It's kinda boring for you to fill the form every time, you can send an email to abuse@namecheap.com or legalandabuse@namecheap.com with proper information such as screenshots, complete description, receipt, payment method, archived link, etc... They usually check the reports quickly.

There are many other domain registrars. But, since they use namecheap more often. I explained only this one.
In order to clear the internet from these dirty fraudulent websites, please spend just a few minutes and report them.

I've been doing this since then but only to those phishing websites since ponzi/hyip websites can be distinguished so easy and can be avoided only for those non-greedy users. Hosting's policy like Namecheap is strict regarding this that's why they respond immediately and keep you updated to your reports, it usually take within 48 hours and they will respond you regarding the shutdown of the website.

This is a nice guide if you want to report one website. Not a big deal, but what if you find few new scammers daily?
Collecting all evidence, screenshots, archiving ... Plus, there are many other registrars, so it is necessary to contact them all. Some of them do not have azure support, some are locally registered in only one country, then we need to know other languages.
if reports are to comply with all required things, it would all take too much time, almost like a full-time job.
Problem is, you will spend more time on report scammer webpage than he himself while setting it up. He will just register a new domain for a few dollars and ta-da, they have a fresh start.

Also, you can report the sites as bad to search engines, anti-virus & anti-malware places, etc.

There are may other places to report too, but those are the ones I have on my quick list.
Also, when checking the registrar check to see where the site is actually hosted. A lot of the time it's the same, but I have also seen a lot of times where they put the site someplace else. Over the years I have seen web hosts be a lot more responsive to taking a site down then registrars.

Even if they are not using Namecheap and they are using other host or they are registered to other domain registrar people can still report these fraudulent sites, all web hosts and domain registrars have in their terms of use very similar to Namecheap stand, it's better this way than just alarming and posting if they are disabled by their host and domain registrars they cannot scam people anymore.

Its always better to stop scammers from the root and reporting domain with proper evidences is the right thing. If you can bring domain providers attention to scam projects domain then in most cases you don't need to waste your time by publishing separate scam accusation against them. Although keeping a record on bitcointalk help our community users to get information at a glance.

I will personally suggest you to put the report link on your thread whenever you create new accusation. It helps thread visitors to submit the report from their end.

Namecheap is the preferred domain registrar of these scammers, because of the cheap domains you can get as low as $2 domain or even lower, and their hosting is also cheap not to mention they offer free protection to the owners of the domains 9 out of 10 scam sites are using Namecheap, but we cannot blame Namecheap they just want to beat their competitors with their cheap offers.

They also don't ask users for any KYC, so anyone can register a new domain address using a fake name. However, yes, cheap price can be another reason.

Not completely related, but registering site also here: https://cryptoscamdb.org/ will protect at least metamask users. Metamask will show warning message if you go registered site.

This should be used with extreme caution and certainty because some legitimate sites might get caught in the crossfire amidst the reports of scam websites. The guide is a useful strategy to combat the proliferation of scam websites but only use this in the situation that you are 100% sure that this site is operating a scam. To all newbie scambuster, document your catches in the forum so other scambuster have some point of reference.
