I just started using electrum because I dont want to download the entire blockchain. So i set it up and got my receiving asddress set up to my pool. When I spent some bitcoin today that address vanished. I still have the change from the transaction but why would they make this a feature? Does that mean ANY time I spend BTC, I have to update every single place that I've posted my BTC address? I already had to submit a ticket to my pool because they paid out to my old address. Is there a way to not lose an address after spending something?

Open the "Used" arrow in the Receiving list.

Bitcoin addresses are not supposed to be re-usable, that's why it hide the used and empty ones.

This kind of freaked me out first, time too... any chance it can come up not hidden in the new builds until the user selects?   Re-use of new addresses is a user choice and disappearing your blog deposit address is not appropriate.   Wink

Don't tip me... tip the Riseup folks who protect activists around the world.

You can try making an issue on github:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues

I found this which is sort of related:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/512

Also you should compare this with the new Bitcoin-qt 0.9.0 receive tab which is what gmaxwell is talking about in the last comment there.

You can re-use the same address over and over if you want to. It only gets hidden on the "receive" page when there is  a zero balance in it. If you receive additional Bitcoins into a previously hidden address, it will appear again on the "receive" page. At least it does for me (I am using windows version 1.9.7 of Electrum).
When you send Bitcoins from a given address, the balance in that address will become zero again, and change will be returned into one of your "change" addresses. While some people recommend that you only use an address once, others like to use them over and over for a long period of time. It's entirely up to you how you use it. I hope this helps.

Not using strong passwords or making up "weak brain wallets" is an user's choice too, but that is not a good reason for letting them do that.

You can use the Contact tab to add you own blog address so it is accesible trough the Send text field, and it will show up in the Receive tab in case it has funds on it.
