The language problem in India or in many other countries will never be solved.
I think the mindset needs to change and learning English and Hindi should be essential second to learning the Vernacular language.
At least Hindi would be enough to converse with everyone for daily needs and English is learnt is even better to converse in.
I get what you are saying but I am from south and I never needed Hindi in my entire life to converse with others either personally or professionally which is why people are against whenever the government is trying to bring Hindi as mandatory to learn. Any language is good to learn and people who needed it will eventually learn and it's not the job of government to decide which one we have to because India is not a country like China, it's something created with extreme diversity that is why we can't really bring one state policy like others. I have been to other countries where they prefer using their Native language even if they are fluent in English because language is part of the culture too and they embrace it but they will not try to force others to speak in their languages. I see many folks throw the triggering word "mandatory" which is false and it's not my opinion but fact. had shared the document some time back on this very issue. As far as Thackeray brothers are concerned, these guys are fighting for their political survival and going back to their original agenda of Marathi Manus, minus mad hindu identity because they know, when it comes to hindu identity they can't complete with BJP and top of that, their corporators are leaving in masses, so these jokers are losing relevance in Maharashtra politics and need some controversy before BMC election.

I have lived in South for more than 15 years and I know that Hindi isn't that necessary there as even the Hindi people speaks South Indian languages well. So yeah, what you say holds true there but seeing the Marathi people force others to speak Marathi despite them speaking Hindi very well is concerning. Language is mean to connect people and not to divide them. While individual states have developed their own languages, the highest common language like Hindi should not be something that people should stop speaking. Yes, language holds value in terms of culture but why force it on someone who is not from your culture. That is why I got really angry when I say the Manasa Party workers forcing others to speak Marathi and slapping them for no reason.

Let's say that Hindi is not mandatory of the language policy that BJP government brought back but apart from the schools, just look at what government is trying which is Hindi is the national language of India whenever they comes before the media that triggers the non Hindi speakers especially Kannadigas and engage in violent acts because that's how they survive in their political game and hide away from the real problems so the intention of playing this language game is to distract people from real issues. Yes, language holds value in terms of culture but why force it on someone who is not from your culture. That is why I got really angry when I say the Manasa Party workers forcing others to speak Marathi and slapping them for no reason.
No one should force even the local if they want to learn other language and skip their native for any reason but mob mentality brings the worst case behavior fueled by the political reasons and nothing beyond that.

Why "Let's say that Hindi is not mandatory of the language policy"? It's not some hypothetical situation but official document of Gov, one can not just assume anything when it's not even mentioned in any policy remotely. Southern states and west bengal has concern but it's political and not cultural. In my understanding they just assume and scared that if this policy is implemented then everyone will automatically opt for hindi as their 3rd language because its a logical choice for keralite, tamilian etc to learn Hindi due to its reach instead of other Indian language. It's funny that kannadigas screaming the most, considering Hindi imposition was congress's brainchild and they made it mandatory to learn Hindi as 2nd language and English as 3rd language. While BJP is saying, first learn your mother tongue, then English and after that any Indian language as 3rd option.

I personally believe English and the Vernacular must be learnt first and keep Hindi as 3rd language. That is what most schools have been following since years.
Importance of English is that most people going abroad would need it to stay afloat. Reason for Hindi is to be able to interact with other states in the country. Beyond this any other language is a bonus.
I do not encourage the stubborn attitude that some communities have of not trying to learn a language that is spoken in most of the country. It is a backward mindset.

Yes, it's not mandated but we also need to look at the narrative being pushed by the political leaders and making it look like Hindi is the default option that creates hate because we don't really get educated about all the policies in details, but these speeches from political figures will act as reference point. Southern states always resisted the Hindi when they feel it's kind of forced and they fear that losing their importance for their language is kind of threat to their identity because it's extremely varies from north to south while the political parties from south make use of this emotions and play their political game to keep them relevant.

I appreciate your perspective about opening more opportunities by connecting the states, but it's different when someone choose to learn Hindi and they are forced to do which is what matters here, that is what people resist. To southern people, Hindi is more alien language than English because we hardly ever needed it but at the same time people who moved from South to other parts for jobs learned Hindi without any issues which is what my point is, if they have to then they will. India isn't a country before few centuries, it is created by Englishmen with diverse group of people with different cultures followed by thousands of years which is why I said one state policy will not work when it comes to our country.

Wouldn't it be better if we all just keep it simple and let everyone learn the language they like and not force anybody to learn a particular language ? Just remove the mandate and let people find the necessity to learn a particular language by themselves. For education and rest important things we can keep one language mandatory and I think that should be English.

I think everyone should learn English if not a local language. Moving to a new place is itself a daunting mental and physical exercise and then if your find yourself alienated due to language it puts additional burden on your head. But I guess English is more prevalent among the middle to upper class citizens and not the common folk.

Who am I and you to assume or decide anything? Proposed documents say no mandatory and forced language but 3rd language should be indian. IMO Debate and fear mongering should end there. Debate should be on implementation and let the people allow to choose whatever they want, if they want to learn urdu, punjabi, sanskrit, telugu, hindi etc as 3rd language. And who is doing all the propaganda of Hindi being default language? Clearly not BJP. Dominating narrative is that centre government is shoving hindi down everyone's throat but situation is completely opposite. DMK is just scared on language issue and doing old tested dravidian politics, which I don't mind as long as it remains a regional ideology and not jeopardize national interest.

But I guess English is more prevalent among the middle to upper class citizens and not the common folk. Even the common folks these days speak broken English. It's just the older generation from lower class who are unable to speak English. So yeah, it kinda makes sense for English to be commonly accepted everywhere in India and so everyone should try to learn it. That said, if a person is earning his bread and butter in a non-native State then it kinda makes sense logically for him to learn the State's traditional language. Wouldn't that be more convenient for him since it would make communication a lot easier with the native folks there. It's just the willingness to learn and an open mindset that's required to end this debate.

I don't want to point out the names, but more often they come up with the statements like "Hindi is the national language and everyone should learn that" with the same tone they use for "India is for Hindus". That said, if a person is earning his bread and butter in a non-native State then it kinda makes sense logically for him to learn the State's traditional language.
Whenever I visit Bangalore where most of the shop owners use Hindi equal to their local language which will surely agitate the language extremists and is not wrong though to communicate in the language they are comfortable but this gives the reason for the political party to play their games with their voters.

^^ Modi-shah duo is gujrati and their focus on mother tongue and I have never heard them saying otherwise. Their long list of CM don't touch this topic as it doesn't concern most of them. Hemanta from Assam favor local language, Chandrababu Naidu also support mother tongue and mentioned few times on record but he also encourage hindi because it helps in India. Even RSS core don't force hindi because majority of them are Marathi.
As far as tone goes, i believe inflammatory statements from low level politicians should be ignored and if majority of India can ignore "Raliv, Galiv, Chaliv" "Eradicate Sanatan Dharma" then they can also ignore other statements.

Mostly those statements comes from the BJP leaders in south even if they are not that powerful figures still they are in important positions as leader of state party or any other noticeable position and give statements like that whenever they are shown a mic while deflecting what is happening that needs attention. And it shouldn't be that big if other party just chose to ignore but they got a reason to play and these media always looking for controversies will make it even bigger that creates the domino effect eventually hatred even if there is no intention for them to be.

^^ imo that's not a genuine argument but sounds like people are buying into propaganda and falling for irrelevant statements from irrelevant person and nobody. One could understand the blowback if the likes of Annamalai, Nagenthran etc are talking shit but I don't think that's a case.
Maybe tamilian should dive more into media and see who is doing bidding for language divide and inflating the agenda. Last i heard some channels are owned by literally political parties from DMK, congress etc and in some case christian missionaries.

Fellow Indian members are welcome in our Local :)

Keeping never ending language problem aside (we will come back to it) it seems that bitcoin has crossed 121k USD and in INR that has crossed a good amount beyond 1Crore Rupees.
Indeed this is a happy moment for us Indians who love to see the round figures and 1Cr was a dream for many of the Indian hodlers out there.
Let us hope this continues and the dumb government in our country have some idea what they are dealing with.

This 1 crore range definitely triggered a wave because I can see more scam attempts than usual in the social media. Ironically they now even use featured advertisement offered by official platform like Instagram and Facebook and claim they are investor/trader/broker and I can double your investment in a day and shit like that. Our government should also give some attention to stop these scammers from acting freely with no restrictions while the real investors are paying 30% of their profit for nothing to the government.

...I feel if someone following every rule all the time and that too in our system and environment then they will be left behind because we have too many people lol and competing for literally every freaking thing.
Yo, I just watched this short [1] and in the end it has this statement, "In this country, you can't go forward, unless you are backward" — as I heard it, I was instantly reminded of this quoted part of yours. I don't follow politics and have negative opinion of it, but Shashi Tharoor earned my respect today. [1] https://youtube.com/shorts/PN6tZxxQyH4I loved this short, hypocrisy of our nation is unparalleled.

I like him for his academic mind, which could help our country in policy making greatly but I hope he doesn't get any sensitive role ( anything related to security and critical stuff) in near future because he's a big womensier and hard to trust those who are weak on legs. Yeah, living in India is like playing video game on hard mode and if you are general category then lol you are fucked and it's a question of when and not if. Take new proposed law from Congress " rohith vemula act".

To live in India, we need a special immunity power, for example street foods. I doubt someone from another country who eats street foods will have severe stomach upsets and recently, someone from Norway posted a video. And the same goes for traffic, we can't expect a foreigner to commute in a metro city's traffic. We are conditioned to live in such mode for very long time.

^^ burai bahut hai street food mein but folks have to agree on this fact that because of it average immune system of any Indian is ridiculously resistant. same could be said about other thing, isiliye Indians abroad itne sucessful hai. Kuch bhi daal lo pet mein, bacteria ecosystem itna develop hai ki adjust hone mein jyada problem nahi hoti kahi bhi lol. Problem tab aati hai jab tum kuch time bahar reh kar wapas aate ho. In my experience air quality hits you the most instead of street food but again delhi got its name of gas chamber for a reason.
