The best approach here is for newbies to stop falling for these scams so that the scammers lose interest in these shady activities themselves.

The news like this will not make some big impact on the community but the people who contribute to doing this thing will likely help those people who have bad intentions to bring down bitcoin. Therefore, reporting this kind of illegal activity will be the best option to save the name of bitcoin being tag with their illegal activities. Bitcoin is a decentralized which is different from fiat money which is control by the government. Some people are using bitcoin illegally in some of the social media, to scam people money and destroy the image of bitcoin.
I think those using bitcoin illegally on social media are people who don't have any idea of bitcoin or who don't want bitcoin progress in the country.

Even USD and fiat can be used for illegal activities on telegram and other platforms. This does not mean that we think that bitcoin is a scam itself.

This is not new, Have known about this for more than 5 years even before my first bitcoin transaction. The Darknet has always been an avenue for such transaction, for drugs, weapon, human trafficking even oil transaction but who do more of oil transaction than the corrupt country leaders. More of this anonymous coin are used there than bitcoin especially monero, you never wondered why the rarely mentioned monero still has the high volume of trade, high price and market cap. They give USA more concern that allow so much fund to break the privacy.

We cannot blame bitcoin for that, something that is illegal by people using bitcoin. real money can be forgiven that way that it depends on the use of each for the positive or the negative

I supposed not to blame Bitcoin for a such a crime or sort of illegalities. Everyone can buy Bitcoin and anything they do with that number of Bitcoin are their own decision. What it makes difficult is that they are taking advantage of having an untraceable transaction, using social media to make their devil intention, that was the most devastating event that makes the authorities never find crypto as the best solution to a long delay of transaction. Instead, this gives them a reason to hate crypto.

If the technology upgraded any illegal activity will adjust base of what they think they need with it since they know it is much secure place for having  transaction  they will use it. Through the same telegram illegal stuffs and more other things can be bought for fiat. Why people don't make it a news ? We need to understand this is also a way of manipulating the market and creating negativity upon bitcoin. Whether it is bitcoin or something else, people use it for the good and bad.

Most of the time the negative part gets revealed and in rare occasion the good about bitcoin gets revealed. Just reporting it to the authority nothing is gonna change unless the person involved realise the need of bitcoin for good.

Well, I always have this perspective that there really is a possibility that this is just a setup. Because it really is stupid, I find it really stupid when the government is putting the blame on bitcoin because of the illegal activities with them knowing then fact that it's not really because of the bitcoin. And since then, --any type of store of value is being used for illegal activities they still try to stop until now. I think someone is trying to stop the disruption of cryptocurrency but doing setup stuff.

You said it already that it's inevitable, not only for fiat but for things that have value. These people will use any medium or platform they can just to continue doing illegal activities and will continue to find ways that make it convenient for them, and not to easily get caught by the authorities. It's not bitcoin's fault when criminals use it for transactions because it was not made for that purpose, it's just that greedy people will always abuse something for their benefits, and that's one of the examples.

Also, I just want to mention that news headlines with bitcoin always beside illegal activities can give a misconception to people (especially for those who don't have much idea about it) that bitcoin is something bad although it's not actually like that.

They can't be serious if they(the government) were going to blame it on Bitcoin because no matter where I look at it. A currency has nothing to do with it–it's just the people who uses and exploit Bitcoin on their advantage. It's just about time that the authority have to make an action of what they're suppose to be doing to stop this kind of transaction. Nonetheless, they have a countermeasures already when it comes to dealing with narcotics, it's just–they have to make a good plan to stop those people from doing illegal activities.

This is what government in many countries want with bitcoin. They want to control bitcoin but still can't. Bitcoin is used as a scapegoat and is always blamed because there are people who use it for illegal activities. In fact, fiat has been proven over the year to be the most commonly used tool in illegal activities, including those carried out by government official themselves. I don't think news like this will have much impact on the already strong bitcoin community. As long as we can use it in activities that do not violate the law then I will not leave bitcoin.

I came across this news which is unfortunate but inevitable, people use fiat, bank accounts , gold, anything which is worth any value to do illegal activities.


But this time what's unfortunate is : Government will make this the fault of bitcoins and the people themselves, put up huge restrictions or might even think about issuing a ban.

People are now using social media and telegram to buy illegal things like : drugs , they are paying through Bitcoins.

Given that any sort of money or assets is used for illegal activities, it's illogical to blame Bitcoin and yet ignore, say, USD. Bitcoin needs strict regulations because criminals use it? Okay, how about anyone paying for anything with dollars has to verify identity now? And Telegram is also the kind of platform used for tons of things. I, for one, use Telegram very actively because it's the most popular messenger for young people in my country. So most of my communications regarding studying (I'm finishing my MA this year) and just talking with friend occurs there. And it's not my fault that some use it to buy/sell drugs.

As long as the demand is there, the dark market business will flourish. Even if the authorities shut down all the dark markets, the drug users are going to secure their supplies through street vendors. As far as I can see, the "war on drugs" in the United States is causing more harm than good. It is just forcing the drug users to consume synthetic opioids, rather than soft drugs such as cannabis. And if I am not wrong, overdose deaths crossed the 40,000 mark last year (with the vast majority as a result of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids). Governments should understand that it's not the fault of bitcoin since it didn't change it's behavior since inception.
It was designed to become a peer to peer payment network and that's what it is. It's the people who use it for illicit activities.
I am sure that the so called "Televend" was also created to make a positive impact in the market but it's the people who leverage it for illicit activities like drug dealing.
If people are using a good thing for a bad purpose it doesn't mean that the good thing is bad rather it means that the person is himself bad.
Besides that the governments can't do anything to bitcoin other than restricting it's use, so they should rather go behind the people who are dealing with drugs.
The drug dealers will surely find some other way if bitcoin is not an option to them. So why not catching the drug dealers itself at the first place.

Also, people would not stop to think of ways to take advantage of others even though they are already earning a big amount of money. Its kinda hard to setup scams like this so it would be surely come from who is a veteran developer since they already knew what would entice users. Even though Telegram is already marking up group chats that may be harmful, its still good to review some group chats before joining.

Newbies need to at least have to think twice before joining group chats.

I don't care that it's illegal. If people want to buy something it's their choice. The government should not interfere in simple trades between people.

The people specially the government thinks that illegal activities are always associated on using Bitcoin on which the fact that even before that Bitcoin is not yet existing, illegal activities are already there no matter what currency there is. The ones who must be blamed in here are the people for taking advantage of the Bitcoin's usage and make use of it on criminal and illegal activities. The ones who must be regulated and restricted are the people for doing related stuffs concerning illegal activities for they are the ones who are making  such illegal behaviors and Bitcoin have been the one being pointed out when at the first place it is just being used by those people out there for their own personal usage including illegal activities.
