A friend of mine sent me this video > https://streamable.com/jkhctx   (didn't find a better website to upload the video, not sure about the ads in there, could be NSFW). He said the scrap value for Antminer S9 is between about $15 and $20 in China, how feasible does that sound where you live? I am curious to know.

Here is a post by DaveF:

Grab a hammer and knock off the aluminum heatsinks, you can probably get $0.25/ pound for them.
The boards with chips will probably get you $1.00 / pound.

based on this, I hardly think the miner is worth $10 in the best-case scenario,  two fans are probably worth $1.5 each, what else can be sold? do these miners have any form of gold? I know cell phones have like 0.03grams of gold on average which is about $2 worth but not sure about these gears.

That's super cheap if china is not too far maybe I'm going to buy some. Well most of the manufacturers is in China and you can buy everything there at very cheap price compare on the other country.

do these miners have any form of gold? I know cell phones have like 0.03grams of gold on average which is about $2 worth but not sure about these gears.

According to this video below old ASIC chips production has gold wire unlike the new production of ASIC chips. So there might be other reasons why they still buy scrap miner. Actually for me, I can do some business buying those scrap miner as long as the chips are there and offer to someone for ASIC chip replacement or repair.

Thanks for sharing the video, was fun to watch, found this video as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY8CjwGQFrA , he got 2.3g of gold ($140) out of 1KG worth of chips,  I think unless that is done on a very large scale it isn't really worth doing.

That's super cheap if china is not too far maybe I'm going to buy some.

Not sure how $15-20 for a scrap miner is cheap, for how much do you think you will be able to sell it for? don't forget that extracting whatever usable materials will cost you money as well.

Uff, converting from usd/pound to euro/kilogram, damn Grin

Checking the best prices here for clean aluminum you could get around 75 cents per kilogram, that would be around 35cents per pound to keep original units. As for the gold extraction, good luck getting the two acids needed in bulk quantities, you need to file a paper with all your info and what you intend to do with them, and as far as I remember cyanide is even banned for personal purchase (not by an authorized company), and if by some miracle nobody is making a call while your paying for it let's see what you do with the gold itself. Not the country of choice to do this.

But if it comes to just a few pieces, rather than smashing it to pieces I will try to grab a recycling coupon for old electronics telling them it's an old PSU or UPS or something, and get that 25 euros discount for a new electronic. It still beats the 500 euros fine for tossing large electric equipment in the normal garbage bin!
