Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

But I'm happy to see how bitcoin saved your day. Cards can be blocked but cash in hand can be robbed. BTC on the blockchain cannot be touched unless we are stupid. lol

Trezor under the bed? That's one of the first place criminals look when flipping through a house - they're looking for money, drugs or guns. Guess the criminals didn't know what the hardware wallet was. You got lucky. You could have printed your public and private keys in 20 point font on paper and plastered your walls with it and still been safe Tongue

I have a Nano Blue but took all the funds off of it. It was too cumbersome to interface with. Paper wallets divided around the neighborhood/world works better for me, but it's good to hear the wallet did its job.

Trezor didn't save you, the criminal's lack of knowledge about Bitcoin did. And some robbers could have just taken a hardware wallet without knowing what it is, to figure out later, or maybe they would have though that it's some sort of USB drive with valuable data? You need to store your hardware wallet in secure place, relying on criminals not knowing what to do with it is just security by obscurity, and this security is extremely unreliable.

Some people do not know what hardware wallet is, but you need to be careful, because some thieves can know about it and force you to provide all necessary information needed to access it. But, you are lucky the thieves do not know what hardware wallet is. Next time, it will be good to save it in a place not accessible by thieves and other attackers. I created an article recently about how physical money are vulnerable to theft while fiats vulnerable to governmental manipulations, while bitcoin helps to solve the both problems.

Money vulnerable to theft and depreciation until the onset of bitcoin
Before the onset of bitcoin, all types of money were either vulnerable to theft or depreciation, there was a time in the past when there was money but no bank, people will still think of a way to protect their money, but at the time, money were vulnerable to theft. So, later comes bank, to help individual to keep their money, fiats was adopted and was accepted by all countries of the world, and money centralized regulation evolved. Now, fiats are manipulated, the manipulations are from governments because fiats are centrally regulated and due to this, money owned by individuals are manipulated and making fiats to be a depreciative asset.
Money like gold that are physical are more vulnerable to theft while fiats kept in banks are more vulnerable to governmental manipulations. All these do not make money characteristics to be completely fulfilled until the onset of bitcoin that created indirect bridge known as blockchain between fiats and cryptocurrencies. Now, people can hold bitcoin in a way to do away with theft and central (governmental) manipulations.

He is lucky as the robbers didn't get it and had no idea what it is for but robbers are getting sophisticated these days. Remember, they can hack top exchanges and get away with millions of dollars. Now, it will be a lesson for the OP. Don't trust that robbers will not be interested with your gadgets next time. As others said, you just got lucky! But congrats for getting back on track owed to your crypto.

Just be careful though, the criminals might got back if they see that you have a Trezor under your bed, and maybe that's one reason why they didn't took it in the first place. So if I'm in your shoes, better check out and move to another place and take care of that Trezor of yours.

That robber still did you good if he got away with all your stuff and you had to sell bitcoins to compensate.

Now that bitcoin is going up in valye you have less to profit from.

Still great that he left your trezor because it's so small that he could just take it thinking it's a fancy usb drive or some kind of car fob that could be worth something at a pawn shop.
It looks more like a gate or garage remote than a toy Cheesy

Good thing that nothing bad happened to you and you're not there when he entered. No harm has been done physical and you have your bitcoins with your Trezor.

Now, the next thing that you have to do is to review CCTV's near to your house to identify the culprit. How did the robber entered your apartment?

OP was fortunate in this case that the attacker did not know what he was looking at. There exists a vulnerability with Trezor devices in which a knowledgeable attacker, given physical access to the device, can extract the seed phrase within 15 minutes. The attacker could have extracted the seed phrase and left the device behind to make OP think he is safe, and then moved all the coins a little later.

There is also the possibility that an attacker sees a hardware device, knows what it is, and so comes back at a later time when OP is around in an attempt to coerce him to give up his coins. If you aren't already using passphrases to give yourself plausible deniability for such a scenario, then you should consider doing so. Links below.

Do not get too much confidence in it because some people now are knowledgeable about bitcoin and by next time if you are still not careful of those kind of people and might get back next time then high chances that they will going to take your trezor device as well. So, a good advise is for you to keep it also safe away from those expensive belongings to which the robbers always after so that they could not get a chance to get your bitcoins. We know that they could have knowledge about it.

He might not really know what it is, some of my friends think of it as a key chain one of may friend before says if it's a tamagotchi lol. But some robbers can be too smart and may know what it is, if he was able to get your laptop and phones that might not have any strict security it may result for them to easily get your funds better be careful now in securing your Trezor as well your room or home.

How did you sell your coins on LocalBitcoins with no laptop and no smartphone?  Grin

But Only the trezor under the bed he not rob.

Next time put your credit cards under the rug under your bed, seems like it's a good hiding spot.

And some robbers could have just taken a hardware wallet without knowing what it is, to figure out later, or maybe they would have though that it's some sort of USB drive with valuable data?

Pretty stupid robbers, that's if we believe the story, a trezor is easy to carry, and even if they did mistake it for something else it was still an easy to carry gadget that could have got them a few $ once sold, easy to carry and easy to dispose of if found to be useless.  Actually, now that I think of, my emergency laptop I take on vacation just to read some stuff and maybe send some mail and I couldn't care less if it gets stolen or I drop it in a pool is barely twice the price of my 256 memory stick. Grin

Lol, good one OP..Nice.saving your funds. I think this is one of the great advantage of storing your money in cryptocurrency. Robbers don't have idea about it and even if they sees it knowing that it is just like a usb then they could have just leave it. So, I suggest to make the devices of storing crypto online to make a design that is not catchy to the looks of the robbers so that they will only get lesser attention in taking it as well.

Borrowing laptop from others involves the risk of seed compromising.
No it doesn't. The whole point of hardware wallets is that you can connect them to any computer or device, even one filled with malware, and your seed phrase/private keys/coins remain completely safe. It is entirely possible to use a trusted friend's or family member's computer to use an exchange account and deposit coins to it from your hardware wallet. The main risk is with there being malware which could steal your exchange account login details, not which could access your seed phrase.

a trezor is easy to carry, and even if they did mistake it for something else it was still an easy to carry gadget that could have got them a few $ once sold
Even if you have no idea what it is, every Trezor device has the word Trezor embossed on it. Type Trezor in to Google and the first result will tell you what it is.

This scenario is unexpected. The best you are still safe life > bitcoin man.

Still, it feels bad because most of your things got by the robber, I think you need to make all of the backups on your files and especially coins. Is there any secret pocket under your bed so the robber ignores the trezor, mostly if we talk about robbers they will get everything that benefits them.

You are lucky he didn't notice your trezor looks like a flash drive else you are gone with your coins.

But if you have full access like your seed on your wallet you do not need to worry.

Still trezor saves him because its appearance is not really attractive to robber tho. It just mean that the aesthetics design of trezor really sucks that robber don't have any interest on it. A blessings in disguise. Actually it's appearance is not really good and it looks a very cheap item. Robbers is on rush so they don't have time to get an item that they are not familiar. They already planned what items they will only get to save time for escape.

You're lucky the theft have no knowledge about Bitcoin/Bitcoin hardware and think it's cheap electronic device, some theft would steal anything they could steal or think all electronic device (even though it's small) has to be valuable.

But even if he did steal it, most likely the theft cannot steal your Bitcoin and you still have access to your Bitcoin (assuming you have backup).

If he kept his walet under the bed there's a pretty big chance he had no backups at all.
Unfortunately we can't protect ourselves from every possible scenario. If the theieves know you're abroad they'll take their time in your house and look for hidden money and valuables.
I know a case in my area where the owner lived alone and died and the thieves knew nobody was going to come to check the house right away, so they stole everything including faucets, built in electric devices like heaters, chandeliere, everything that could be unscrewed and had some value.

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin printed your public and private keys in 20 point font on paper and plastered your walls with it and still been safe  kinda true  Grin i mean i doit for myself i write on used paper and just put right on my desk and no one know that was moeny on paper
